    Today we'll be looking at the ONLY realistic ways to get to Alpha Centauri. By our current technological capabilities, a spaceship accelerated to 80km/s would have to travel for roughly 18000 years to get to Alpha Centauri. For reference, in this timeframe, humans progressed from creating the first organized settlements to our modern-day society. So conventional fuel isn’t an option.

      Its mind boggling to me that if you get to the theory and mathematics side of things interstellar travel isnt that impossible at all. In my opinion if it were to be our common goal we would even be able to figure out a way to do it in only a century. But that will never be the case. Nonetheless if we dont kill ourselves off our descendents in 10-15 generations down the line may actually see this stuff. We are not milleniums away from it we are centuries away from these hypothetical breakthroughs at most.

    Interstellar travel will almost certainly require some kind of warp drive or similar technology. Not just because of the time other tech would take to reach their destination but because of time itself. Any tech that involves actually accelerating to any fraction of the speed of light hit the whole relativistic time dilation issue. But just riding that sweet sweet spacetime wave gets around that issue. Plus, if you hit a micro meteor or other small object traveling at said fraction then that could be game over for everyone on the ship.

    • @cpain8022
      @cpain8022 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    For the last option he gave there's actually a thery that we may be in the 4th dimension not the third only this 4th dimension is so small that only gravity can interact with it. But if Einstein's theory of relativity is true then as gravity is acting on it, it has to be acting on gravity as well. So it may be possible to use this 4th dimension to make a ftl drive.

    Another great thing about the Warp Drive is that you’re not *actually* moving faster than light. Let me explain.
    If you’re traveling 50% the speed of light and you hit a tiny speck of dust, you’ll explode because you’re moving so fast.
    With the Warp Drive, you might pick up a few dust particles in the warp bubble, but they won’t hit you at the speed of light because you’re going slower than that.
    So, there’s even *more* great things about the Alcubierre Drive than just speed.

      I think black holes could be the perfect fit for that theory since their gravitational pull is insane; good luck controlling one though, or actually figuring out how to use them for that theory altogether. I just thought about this other possibility: setting a base on a planetoid or a comet, or getting as close to them in order to orbit them, and then de-orbiting them from their original path and using their momentum for the speed, resulting in these planetoids or comets working as some sort of bus that'll take us along with them on their new path to our intended destination.

    The last ship that was powered by a generated black hole disappeared for nine years before reappearing around Neptune, and on the way the crew went mad and killed each other, then the ship sent to rescue it had its crew largely killed too, all while the guy who designed it went insane too and said "Where we're going, we won't need eyes to see!"

    If we moved at near-speed of light velocity, it wouldn't take us ~4.3 years to get to Alpha Centauri, but waaay less, even just a few seconds. You're ignoring time dilation due to Special relativity
    Somebody from Earth would see us taking ~4.3 years, but on the starship this is not true.
