Wow that was harsh, let him be, the way you comment sometimes people it's like you are bitter or jealous. Some of us we are parents we appreciate when these children are trying to earn a living.
Hi Kish, I don't think that area is the "Ghetto" you know some other country. This is a peaceful neighborhood that families live and children grow up peacefully. Most pf them are houses and if you get in you will get amazed. You yourself said it, no gun, peaceful...hence, no ghetto, but yes poor. By the way the area is well known for being the best place to live with love sharing what they have. About the young man who was collecting empty plastic bottle: He was very clear and polite enough thinking that you guys would appreciate and sympathize with him. I don't understand why she fail to note and understand. He said: 1. I am collecting this and share it to those who will give him food. He said I prefer to work and eat than begging. 2. He said, he had a good life but lost money due to some one/friend who failed to give his own money. 3. Then he lost his parents. 4. As per the context, he expected at least good sympathizing, empathizing words....at most a little money like 100...But, she failed to understand that and so does you... Anyway nice surfing...keep it up.
Come on man we Africans are already seen like "dangerous" people, what is the point of a man holding a gun, for all we know he might even be a farmer trying to protect his farm. On top of all that you're literally in the center of the country in addis ababa, probably the safest part of the country regarding gunmen.
Dr Abiy Ahmed the Ethiopian Prime Minister is doing a great job in destroying slums and replacing them with modern condominiums or what in Kenya we call ‘affordable housing’. In Kenya, such an elaborate development program of destruction and building new homes is never easy because majority of the land in Kenya is privately owned while in Ethiopia, all the land belongs to the government because Ethiopia is a former communist country since 1974 until 1991 when it was ruled by Col. Mengistu Haile Mariam. As a result of communism, the government still owns the land and decide to do any development on it without consulting anyone and therefore can move or order people living in the slums to move at a short notice with or without much compensation.
That man is trying to mask his failures in the North by rushing everything in Addis Ababa. These renovation projects are not supposed to be undertaken in such a drastic fashion but with calculated progression. Anyways, he will only be around for a short time. The Addis Ababa project has also sparked a lot of greivances against his administration.🔔
The vlog is nice but not the title because in Ethiopia ghettos are very clean and organised and peaceful. Guns are just symbols of security but never a threat to anyone. By the way, apart from the simmering political tensions which can flare up during war, socially the people are very peaceful. I am a Kenyan who is married to an Ethiopian so I know exactly what I am saying.

"Unless you live in Pipeline, Kibra, and Mathare, have tarmacked roads, water even if not piped water in their house but they have electric borehole they fetch water from, there are amenities like tarmac roads, hospitals, and other facilities. You can't cover a small fraction of another country's ghetto and automatically conclude that it's better, or that the quality of life there is better than in your own country. Also, you can't compare two cultures and say one is better than the other because someone from Kibera, if brought to that other slum, might hate it because they're not used to that kind of life. But that doesn't mean either of them lives a less quality life than the other. No preference is superior to the other. When I was in campus around 2016, I used to live in Area 4, Mathare. I can tell you, that area is well developed, even though it was back in the day. Its streets used to be cleaned, it had a vibe to it with the music, street lights, and nightlife. It was full of adrenaline; it was a sweet life. I know with NMS, a lot more was done across all ghettos in Nairobi Kenya, greatly improving their quality of life."
