    Did this Florida in early 2000’s. Sold it for a few hundred thousand. It will kick your butt physically. Up and down stairs. There is no hauling offsite. You dump in community dumpsters. The thing is I was making about $25k per month, peek was about $40k/ month. You’re not going to make $25k per month alone. 4-6 guys and three trucks. Expenses realistically $10-12k per month. When labor was good there many months of doing nothing. I have hit 2,300 doors in a day. Usually around 400 doors per complex. Kept full time job until more business gained. Serviced early morning and nights. It took off right after 9/11. Not related but always remember it. Eight months to get second contract after first. Pressure washing is a must for additional service and can’t be sold without in many cases.

    He sounded more proud to say he had a full time job he wasn't quitting than he did about the business that's making him real money. I get the job has benefits in all but imagine if he DID quit and focused more on this to scale it. The only reason you wouldn't is because you didn't really feel like it was something you could rely on consistently or long term, but clocking in is. In 2024.

    • @lamamjforlife
      @lamamjforlife 6 วันที่ผ่านมา +5

      Why is it so hard to believe someone loves what they do for their 9-5 work outside of their side hustle? Ridiculous! Not everyone wants to scale right away. Maybe they have a 5 or 10 year plan. Maybe they need the health/vision insurance in the meantime. Not everything is a lie or someone having an alterior motive. He seems happy doing both. Just root for him and keep it pushing! Sheesh!

    • @therevla
      @therevla 6 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      He's probably keeping his 9 to 5 as a buffer for his bills and cost of living, while he keeps most of the business profits for maintenance of the business. It would be a good idea since living off the business profits would eat away some of that crucial money needed for the business to expand if he went full-time.

    I lived in a number of condos/apartments where you had those trash chutes. People were always throwing in boxes and other items that would jam and others would put in bags but not close them, so the contents spilled out on the way down and made it smell terrible. Maintenance was constantly trying to unjam these things and they would often fill up for several stories full of crap (I lived on the top floor and was amazed when I could not get in anything because it was jammed below.)
    I hated that thing and would often just take my trash to a friend's house who had residential service to throw out may small number of bags.
    I can totally see why a building would love to have a service like this just in saving on the smell and maintenance costs alone.

    • @UpFlip

      Apartments are charging for trash either way, are they not? Even ifs it’s not an additional itemized fee, it’s wrapped into the rent. Instead of itemizing it, properties need to tell tenants that they charge for trash in the rent and as a service to the resident the property hires a company to come get it and walk it to the dumpster for them to save them the trip and to prevent leaks and such from damaging the property’s floors and concrete. The only people that complain about valet trash complain because they think they could just save the $25 fee or however much it is. I live in a house and it’s $35 per month for one pickup per week. I’d much rather have it nightly. Just my thoughts.

    As a forced customer of a similar company - I HATE this model and wish it didn't exist. 1. When you sign a lease you are forced to use and pay for the service even if you don't want to use it. 2. You are forced to use their ugly bin (otherwise I could use something that fits in my interior more). 3. You get FINES. sometimes for no reason. Put a bagged plastic recycle outside in the specified time window without a bin (because trash is not full yet) - 25$ fine. Could not hide bin inside the apartment in a specific time (9am in my building) - fine. A guy who picks up trash leaves a note that the bag was not tied well enough, even though you sure you did - 25$ FINE. Whenever I move I will make sure that my next management does not have a contract with ValetLiving trash pick-up service, because I can walk to the trash shoot and dispose of it whenever I want instead of waiting for pick-up day and times.

Know when to fold even when you're dealt with pocket Aces. I made all kinds of side hustle in my life because I wasn't focus on just one think. I was either selling a service or selling a product of some sort that is in high demand whichever that has a faster turn over at the time. I switch to it. Nothing that's illegal tho. As one of those residents in TX, this is the most stupid shit and I hate it. The trash bin literally next to your parked car. Fkin dump it on ur way out. Instead, we get stinky hallways, tenants leaving their trash outside over night and stray animals getting into it spreading it everywhere. Drips and stains. I saw one of the tenant's dog pee on a trash bin that was left outside of another tenant's door. They are probably still using that pee stained bin. This is so dumb ... and I have to pay extra for it without the ability to opt out.

      The business is genius. It’s an amenity. If the property policed it properly with your nasty neighbors, you would like the service. Other than the fact that it just sounds like it costs too much for you. $25 per month isn’t bad for a 5-night benefit. The property is going to charge for dumpsters anyway whether it shows as a separate charge or not. Or if it’s valet or not. Someone gonna pay for those dumpsters and if you think it’s the property you don’t understand apartments. But calling a business stupid because you would rather not pay for it doesn’t make it stupid.
