The haikyuu fandom takes one character trait and makes that the character's whole personality... like people aren't all one-sided??

I'm most annoyed how they changed Oikawa and Bokuto. Yes Bokuto goes on emo mode, but his actually self aware of his actions and can sometimes even go philosophical. The fandom just made him a grown ass baby while Akaashi became a babysitter or something.
Then Oikawa, ilhsm wtf, his so strong, independent, hardworking, and prideful. His character is beautifully written and the fandom just made him a whiney ass pathetic btch who seems like he can't live without Iwaizumi by his side.

I feel like the fandom is just toxic. Like literally I hate seeing how they make the bottoms wear maid outfit as if the tops can’t wear that too. Also I hate when they make it seem like the bottoms can’t fight/defend themselves. Like their men they can fight and even if they can’t they could still defend themselves to a bear minimum.

The same fucking thing happens to Tsukishima and Yamaguchi like omfg, they make Tsukishima the most insensitive, bitchy, little prick and then turn around and make Yamaguchi "baby UwU shy boy". I was so used to this when I went and rewatched Haikyuu and I was actually a bit shocked at how salty Yamaguchi was as well, he's literally one of thoses background bullies you see in movies. Like when Tsuki is teasing people and poking fun at them Yamaguchi isn't like, "Tsuki!! Stop that!!😠😖" he's more like "Hehehe, what he said🤣" Yamaguchi is almost as much of a jerk as Tsukishima he's just shy and insecure

The thing I hate the most is how they make Suga or something like a mother or Daichi a father? Like they're teenagers? Am I the only one who has a problem with this shit? The toxic fandom also annoys me. Iwaizumi, Kageyama, Sakusa and Kenma. They may not be the best at socializing but they're not toxic. Kenma loves playing games but would give his partner attention and not just to his games. The same goes for Kageyama, Iwaizumi, and Sakusa. Yes, Sakusa is a germaphobe but not to the point where he puts Lysol in his partner's fucking food. Iwaizumi and Kageyama are also not the best at love so they treat their partners differently. I love the Haikyuu fandom especially the texting fandom but COME ON PEOPLE 😒

Absolutely, plus he plays volleyball?? Are we forgetting what the actual anime is about?? They are all volleyball dorks who want to achieve their dreams. If Sakusa was on that level of germophobia, how would he still be playing? During the training arc, we see him sitting on the floor and stretching his wrists. He doesn't even sanatize the area he's sitting in, he just has a mild phobia.
first of all - if sakusa's phobia was that bad, he wouldn't be even dating in the first place... they sometimes also make it seem like he doesn't really care and is not trying to overcome his phobia... like wtf? as a person with quite a few phobias i can say that that is not true, cause even tho i actually don't care that much about my phobias since they don't affect my life that much, i still am trying every day to overcome them or at least make them better...
also since one of my phobias is (mild) haphephobia (phobia of physical touch), it sometimes makes me feel like they're trying to say that people with a phobia that makes it harder for them to interact with people are unable to have an actual relationship or are even unable to feel that kind of feelings and that just disgusts me, especially since i have actually 4 people that i am okay with hugging or holding hands (yes, i hold hands with my best friends xdd) and because it's normal in my country to hug your friends, i made more than 2 of my friends more than once sad, because it's just hard for me to hug them, but i do sacrifice myself for them (i actually never told them i have phobia of physical touch, cause i don't wanna annoy them with it, even tho they probobably wouldn't be annoyed... so just please don't blame them) and i know germaphobia and haphephobia are not the same, but they are quite similar, so i'm pretty sure germaphobes can have a "safe person" as well and i'm pretty sure they're trying all the time to overcome it for themselves and their friends and family...

The only parent figures I see in the whole karasuno team is takeda and ukai to be honest (my opinion pls no hate 🖐🏾)
I hate that the fandom literally made Kenna's whole personality video games, ignoring Kuroo and loving Hinata. The whole reason Kenma joined volleyball is *because of Kuroo*

With the whole hating on and demonizing Yachi thing, it’s also the same with how the fandom can act towards Michimiya Yui. Like people get so mad about Daichi and her ever being together and just making Suga hate her because he wants to be with her. It’s really weird honestly and kinda toxic.

Although I also hate how some creators make Tsukishima mean/rude I mean he's salty specially when he's pissed but in the anime He's kinda quiet and really respectful towards his senpai's , He also respect both Bokuto and Kuroo Cause he's totally indepted to them he looked up at Kuroo too but in text videos I often seen him being disrespectful 😃

Hm, though I agree, but I kind of also feel as though there should be some openness and meaningfulness to it. (Sorry, I’m gonna rant even though you didn’t ask for it.) There a plenty of bl manhwa writers that are females. Although that has nothing to do with Haikyuu community, I feel as though when writing a story at least don’t make sex the main point or if someone is writing only a sex scene, there should be more to it than just that. In other words, give it backstory (plot) and show the characters caring for each other or how it enhances the characters relationships afterwards the same way someone would do it with a straight smut.
Separating gay relationships because it’s gay is also harmful when the LGBT community is fighting for that equality. As long as the characters are legal and have a reason to do it, then a scene isn’t that bad. The only issue within that Haikyuu community is that the vast majority of text-tubers or writers are young and impressionable, so they’re easily playing monkey see, monkey do. Or they’re chasing clout.

I would also mention something that bothers me the most in haikyuu fandom which is glorifiyng toxic relationships. Like, i can't stand how many creators make abusive and/or ignorant Iwaizumi towards Oikawa, Yaku towards Lev, Kenma towards Kuroo etc. No one should stan a non healthy relationship
since I'm at it, let's talk about Bokuto. Bokuto isn't a person who just relies on Akaashi all the time--- Like, idk abt y'all but he's the team CAPTAIN for a reason??? And it's even stated in one of the episodes that Bokuto isn't someone who is brought up by the team, because he also brings up the team. It's a vice versa relationship in their teams. And the rare ships or just all the ships in general, if you dislike the ship, SKIP. I for one, who isn't a fan of DaiSuga and AsaNoya, I skip their parts whenever I'm watching. If it makes you uncomfortable when you're watching it, please just skip them and respect those who want to watch and are comfortable with them. There's no need to hate on the ship, the creator or the viewers.

I also fully agree with the Bokuto part, like in the manga there's several chapters dedicated to Bokuto being shown to be an amazing volleyball player and captain all by himself with little to no influence from the team. Also, when people make Bokuto dumb because he's energetic and can sometimes be run by his emotions, it pisses me off. There are also instances where Bokuto actually says smart things that cheer people up, he did it with Akaashi multiple times and he's the one who gave Tsuki the idea that he's going to have a moment where he loves volleyball. Sorry for the rant I'm just very passionate about this topic because Bokuto is literally my favorite character

Like Hinata,he is energetic as heck,mostly because volleyball is a passion for him. He cheered multiple people through the anime,as well as he did with Tsukki and his inspiring speech.

Akaashi only took care of him in his Emo mode,BUT ONLY IN HIS EMO MODE. Beside that,we can see that they act as friends/best friends or lover (whatever you see it like)

I also hate the Sugamama thing. One boy decided to care about others and now all the sudden he is a mother. Like I don't have a problem if someone says he acts like a mom but the fandom took it to far. First of all Kageyama and Hinata aren't even dating and y'all being like making Suga put knife emojis because apparently Kageyama kissed Hinata. Even if they were dating I'm sure Sugawara would support them and wouldn't want to interfere with their relationship. Anyways, sorry for going a bit off.

ahh i agree with everything said in this! admittedly and unfortunately, i have used the psychotic sugamama trope when i first started just because the fandom did it but actually today i was watching a video with suga in it and honestly it made me realize how much injustice we bring to him as a character. he’s genuinely the sweetest guy out there and so freaking selfless and personify him as this weird, psychotic “mom” that controls everyone?? that’s so unfair and i’m sorry i ever contributed to that. i’m happy i’ve learned my lesson early on but i hope nobody does it again. honestly, you took the words out of my mouth. i kinda didn’t like the stonerhead suna headcanon bc tbh it didn’t even make sense to me since he’s an athlete but then i sorta liked it because i read some good works about it, however once i learned that it was because of the shape of his eyes, i was absolutely disgusted. also i don’t mean to shit on anime but sometimes they really take the whole tanning thing TOO far like there’s a difference between being tanned and blackfishing, it’s just so unsettling.
Pls same. I didn’t even know DaiSuga was a ship and never paid attention to many characters other than Tendou and Noya, so when I started out, I just used fanon for reference until I took the time to rewatch the anime.
All of these things are so true!! Another thing I hate about a lot of text videos is the way Sakusa's mental health is handled. Like when he hurts Atsumu he always rushes over, and then the creator talks about how he "forgets" about all the germs because of his love for his boyfriend. It's just not how mental health issues work and it's pretty harmful. I appreciate that everyone is making less toxic sakuatsu content but it isn't really the way to do that...

personally, i'm pretty neutral about terushima. he did corner kiyoko, but he's also a teenager and tanaka and noya do the same thing but on a less extreme scale ofc. dunno, i dont really see how people simp for him but i also think excessively hating on him isn't great.

I’m curious on what your other reasons were now.
1- I hate it when they over exaggerate on they’re personality. For example Oikawa, he isn’t always that whiny, cocky, or dependent on Iwaizumi. People over exaggerate when it comes to him being whiny or cocky. In general he can be both but don’t make it his whole personality. Dependent on Iwaizumi, they always do most things together but don’t always make Oikawa needing Iwaizumis help. Oikawa is capable of doing things himself.
2- Making Nekoma or any other team in general slander Lev. This happens with two specific characters Yaku and Kenma. Kenma wouldn’t be always slandering Lev. Yaku also wouldn’t be always slandering Lev, also making Yaku the person with severe anger issues is just weird. Yaku wouldn’t be always centering his personality on Lev practicing his receives, only being nice to Kenma and nobody else, and hitting or bashing Lev for one thing he did. Also Kenma being an “ UwU “ femboy and “ shy 🥺👉🏻👈🏻 “ Kenma is beyond those two.

THANK YOU 👁️ I was only able to discuss this with my sister. Also, people should start to do research if they want to write about someone else's characters. And if they age them up and want to write sex scenes it's fine, but jesus christ, at least write them in love and as adults. We have their grown up versions, RESEARCH FOR MAKING THEM AGED UP.
As someone who's comfort anime is Haikyuu, I hate how people portray the characters in this stuff. I write (for myself) fanfics and I do RESEARCH.
People are making Haikyuu characters their own fantasies and it's creepy. They forget there's a story behind them all and that THEY ARE PEOPLE WHO FEEL AND CARE ABOUT THEIR FRIENDS.
And when they make the team toxic, it's awful. Mostly with Nekoma, Aoba Johsai and Inarizaki. Their teams are their family. I hate seeing Haikyuu texts were their friends abuse them, it's horrible. Atsumu finally has friends and they want to take them away from him? Aran would NEVER hurt Atsumu, neither his twin brother. And as someone with siblings yes, we can fight for stupid shit, but I will NEVER hate my sister and I would never hurt her for nothing. I mean, unless she does something awful to me in purpose like hurting someone I love.
And Oikawa is the greatest captain there, stop bullying him for not making it to nationals. Plus, his team would NEVER blame him for that.
And YAKU ISN'T SOMEONE WITH ANGER ISSUES. He cares about Lev and Kenma does so, they would never hurt him or make him feel less for doing something wrong. Kenma helps him and Yaku does so.
I'm making this a rant, sorry. It's just that there's so much wrong with this community.

@Ibuki Mioda I won't stop watch a show because of the fandom, but I have stopped watching thinks like fanarts or fanfics because of it, and it's sad because there's amazing content creators who deserve a lot of love and don't sexualize minors

no bc you ate this UP. you said everything that has needed to be said. this fandom has just been going downhill ever since early november and we rlly need to step up our game before we either become a dead fandom or the toxic side of the bnha fandom. i have loved this show for years and now looking at it after the manga ended i'm like how did we get here? cancelling an anime character?? racism in the fandom?? fetishizing mlm?? c'mon now y'all 😭 i know we can do better than this and we ARE better than this. if some of you guys aren't careful, big contributors to the fandom like Deathbelle, mysecretfanmoments, and deanpendragon are going to start dipping. it should never come to the point where big fan fiction creators are saying goodbye to the fandom because of some of the shit some people are pulling, and i frankly won't forgive anyone if those ppl leave the fandom because of this 🚶🏻♀️ this is the actual lowest we have ever been and i'm not rocking with it 😐
I don’t like how Kageyama’s whole personality is reduce about him drinking milk (which he did just 2-3 times in the show). He’s the character I relate the most, and it annoys me that people take that for his one trait of personality, he’s been misunderstood by people on the show, but he’s even more by those watch/read haikyuu. This guy dedicated his whole life to volleyball, besides being naturally talented he worked everydays to become better. So knowing his worth on the court is not arrogant, he’s fully aware abt his own strengths/weaknesses and other’s. Also, i’ve seen many videos where he’s shown like some sort of sexual predator towards Hinata. Again, this is totally out of the character and a big misinterpretation of their relationship first off, Tobio is younger than Shoyo by few months and assuming he would be like that, is weird. Because those boys are just 16-years-old teenagers who are really passionate about volleyball and the fact that they complete each other is really good. There is nothing wrong with their relationship but the way some people are seeing them is really inaccurate.
Also about the Suna part, they apparently made the whole "' stoner '''' trope because of his eyes. Like miss gurl what? 😀
I think it’s important to remember that there are also brighter and amazing sides of the fandom, but if we’re looking at the less appealing sides then I completely agree
Please I’m so glad you addressed it especially the feminine aspects. I personally didnt find I could talk about this since I’ve been avoiding the top and bottom, genderbend and most of those topics for a while now. I haven’t watched these texting stories in a while, but a lot of problems you point out, honestly do disturbed me in some texting story videos. like I love oikawas hq character, and I love how they make him a “bad bitch” for say, but when they make him rude and like hurtful because of it, it really bothers me.
YES PLEASE DO AGE THEM UP THOUGH... I mean...Natsu for example especially in the “natsu goes through hinatas phone” i used to not mind all the “sexual” tension in those videos, but I was immature and young at the time. I honestly feel uncomfy with nastu or anybody posting those inappropriate photos of their friends in a group chat, it reminds me of a person sending their friend private photos that should not be shared.
- I hate Hinata being the “dumb” character as well. I don’t really like his character in general, but I still still don’t think he’s “dumb” and wouldn’t know what “sex” or “periods” are. They honestly need to make him smarter, like he is.

For the Yachi thing it’s also basically every woman character in Haikyuu, especially Michimiya Yui and Alisa Haiba. Granted I don’t know much about Alisa so I won’t say anything but Yui is such a well written character. She is shown to be caring, determined, and having great leadership skills but the fandom reduces her to being a boyfriend stealer. The DaiYui ship is cute and it makes sense so I don’t see the problem. Michimiya is honestly an amazing character and she doesn’t deserve the hate.
Preach! I really like Yui and wish that she had more screen time, but I really don’t like the unnecessary hate that she gets. The toxic fans hate that she gets in the way of the DaiSuga ship and acts like she would be toxic. She’s the type that would be supportive, but cry when she’s alone so that she won’t burden anyone. I honestly agree with everything you said. I didn't even know about the Aran thing, bc on my tiktok everyone loves him. If i had to name anything that bothers me about the fandoms, I think it would probably be:
1. Toxic relationships.
- Iwaizumi doesn’t insult Oikawa every time they speak. Like, they’re best friends since forever guys, Iwa only calls him like that when it’s necessary.
- Kenma might not talk to people a lot but that doesn’t mean he pushes everyone away and just... plays video games. Okay, he likes games, we know, but he doesn’t ignore people for that. It’s just toxic. Like, if I took Kuroken as an example, we litteraly see Kenma and Kuroo talking while Kenma is playing in the manga/anime. Besides, if Kenma hated Kuroo, he wouldn’t be his best friend since he was little, he wouldn’t even play volleyball. Still talking about Kuroken, I often see videos where Kenma is just "SHOYOOOO" and when it comes to Kuroo, he just ignores him while they are literraly dating. Just, why? Go out with Hinata if it’s to do that.
-Sakusa has a phobia, we understand. So what? He is afraid of contact yes but, in a romantic or even a friendly relationship, you have to make an effort, that’s how it works. If it was at this point, he just wouldn’t be in a relationship. He is also a volleyball player, we can clearly see him sitting on the ground with his hands on it to train but that doesn’t mean that he has disinfected everywhere before that.
- All sibling relationships have arguments, I hear it and I know it since I myself have a brother and a sister with whom I happen to argue but that does not mean that is all the time. We literally saw Osamu cared about Atsumu because he was hanging around on his own because of his character.
2. The characters of the characters.
- Yes, Sugawara and Daichi take care of the team but, they’re the last years, it's just normal. I don't mind being seen as "mum and daddy" but not to the point where Suga doesn't want Kageyama to touch "his precious and innocent" Hinata and every time the first and second years say "fuck" or whatever, yell at them.
- Hinata is 15/16 years old. At that age we literally had sex lessons, I think he knows what the word "sex" means and what an insult. I think so, if he ever had to talk about this subject he would be embarrassed, not ignorant.
- Okay, we've seen Kageyama drink milk a few times in the anime / manga, but that doesn't make it "his character". Like, "Don't touch my milk or you're dead."
- Suna has small eyes but that doesn't mean he smokes. It’s just racism to think so. He was just inspired by the foxes that represent his high school, like owls with Fukurodani or cats with Nekoma.
- Oikawa has fangirls, yes, but that doesn't make him think he's the best. He has insecurities about the way he plays, we know that is clearly stated in the manga / anime when he compares himself to Kageyama. I find him strong, independent, but everyone does it as if without Iwaizumi he was nothing. Besides, always making fun of his ass because they find it flat, I find it extremely heavy. I mean, he's not the only one so why only Oikawa?
- Just because Tsukishima often says "Urusai Yamaguchi" doesn't mean he doesn't respect and is rude to everyone, especially people older than him. He literally helped Yamaguchi when he was being harassed as a younger boy, if he was mean he would have let it go and get over it. In the manga / anime, he is quite low-key and you can see he respects older people, especially Kuroo who taught him a lot about blocks.
- Okay, we've seen Kyotani "angry" a few times, but that's doesn’t mean it’s his characters. He doesn’t have anger issues. Sure, he respects Iwaizumi more because he competed with him and every time Iwa won, but that doesn't mean he's violent.
- Same with Yaku. Yes, he is nicknamed Demon-senpai by Kuroo. So what? Again, that doesn't sum up his character, he's just deep into volleyball, as Kageyama or Hinata might be. In all of the LevYaku I've seen so far, it was mostly a Yaku-based relationship who insulted Lev and he only spoke to him when Lev needed to work on his receives. Come on guys, that's not how a relationship works. Besides, he's not just kind to Kenma, as I've seen him many times, or Shibayama. It's a third year, guys.
- Kenma is not mean, nor feminine. Okay, he has long hair, so what? Yes, he hates running and when Lev asks him to pass to him, he's not necessarily very nice, but that's doesn’t mean every time they talk to each other Kenma insults him.
- Speaking of Lev, he has just started volleyball and Nekoma is a defense-based team, so I find it normal that they are hard with Lev on this level, not a reason to insult him as soon as a opportunity presents itself.
- Just because Bokuto has an emo mode doesn't mean he's necessarily dumb or whatever, if he's Fukurodani's captain, he's for a reason. Akaashi is not his babysitter, far from it.
- I found it a little funny at first that everyone sees Asahi as "Jesus" but after a while it quickly got boring and heavy. Just because he's often scared and quickly embarrassed doesn't mean he's bound to be an extremely holy person in a relationship.
- Etc... Basicaly how they all take a trait of their character and make it their whole character.
3. Racism in the community.
As said in the video, Aran is just ignored as if nothing is known about him and that he is not the ace of Inarizaki, who was still an important match for Hinata, because he is black. Whereas Terushima, we have only heard about it 2 or 3 times and yet we see him often, much more than Aran. He's a character that I personally find incredible, as much as I could find Atsumu's sets or Kita's ease in staying calm during a national game unbelievable.

I just thought it was normal to pick up on what didn’t feel right to me. I really enjoyed Yaku and thought that people direspecting who he was. Besides, the only times we see him "mean" is when Lev comments on his height. It’s just a normal reaction.. well that’s my opinion. And same with Kuroken, I absolutely adore Kenma and the ship and it’s hurt to see that people just make him always mean towards everyone expect Hinata.
Exactly, especially with point number 2 and all of its subpoints. Hinata isn’t so dumb that he doesn’t know any adult topics(and he also knows how to curse, he just seems to be uncomfortable with it). As for Sugawara, Daichi, and Kageyama, I’ve seen so many text videos where Sugawara is some form of bloodthirsty psychopath who’s way too protective of Hinata(usually accompanied by “innocent child Hinata” mentioned above). I can’t really say much about Daichi, since he’s not altered that much other than yelling at Tsukishima more often and generally being more of a father figure to the group(which... just no). But Kageyama has two major archetypes that often overlap, and involve him either being obsessed with milk, screaming “BOKE” every other text, or both. Tsukishima isn’t just rude to everyone, either. He clearly respects his upperclassmen who aren’t his definition of idiots, and as you mentioned he helped “save” Yamaguchi from those bullies at a young age. Oikawa also has two archetypes, one of which is a cocky, over-the-top, often flamboyant version of him, and the other is a codependent person who relies on Iwaizumi for everything. In the end, my issues with both archetypes(and the other characters’ portrayals) is that they’re taking a single aspect of a character and building a trope out of it.

Ok, so... Haikyuu is like literally my favorite anime of all times, I'm a volleyball player and when I heard of the anime during quarantine I watched it and I'm completely attached to it. I just love all the characters, I have read a lot of times the manga, rewatch the anime, read the Haikyuu-bu, official arts, etc. Even when I'm a person that never gets to have a favorite character that I would put above all others, I just watched Haikyuu, met Kita, read about him, his personality and I completely fell in love with this character
With that said, it just pisses me off to see how people portrayed the characters. Like, hello? A lot of these videos put the "I don't see the characters like this" thing, but still, why would you have write them like that? Oh my fucking goodness, I so happy about this especially that Aran part like when I first saw him I was so glad there was another POC in the show on that people could pass off as "just a bit tanned" and then I go to find stuff about him and they only every mention him in specifically KitaAran vids (which there aren't much of anyways) like, sir excuse me, mans is both beautiful and incredibly talented... where tf is he?? Another thing that really pisses me off about the community is that Atsumu = Sangwoo shit🙂, I don't think they understand how insulting and disturbing it is to tell someone, "Hey, you look like a rapist, serial killer, I'mma call you that from now on, plus I'm still insanely attracted to you😘✨", also he's a fucking minor y'all are givin' off really sketch vibes, might wanna get that checked out. This one's really important to me because I've been victim to it but the body shaming in this community to the point where we barely hide it anymore calling people names and making fun of people because of the size of one of their physical features is not okay, it's bullying and sometimes the reason why people develop //TW// eating disorders/eating disorder like tendencies and/or commit deletion. It's an actual issue and playing it off as a joke isn't helping anybody. Lastly, I do believe that awareness for //TW// suicide, depression, anxeity, eating disorders, and other mental health issues, is important especially in a community filled with younger people but if done incorrectly can do more harm than good so video like these aren't exactly "bad" per say(lord knows they're the only things keeping me from derailing) but I feel like if you haven't done any research on how to help these people or the issues themselves then you really shouldn't be part of the conversation and if you're one of those people who just do it 'cause you can... shut up. Stop talking. No❤️. But other than that I completely agree with everything you've said.

I don't write these videos but I write quite alot of fanficitons of haikyuu, I feel like its the exact same in fanfictions and these texting story thingies. an example is Fanon and cannon Sakusa, I was reading a sakuatsu on wattpad and then it said, and I quote 'He sprayed atsumu with disinfectant spray.' Yes we know how he's a bit of a germaphobe and he isn't that nice but you have to be honest here, You wouldn't spray someone with chemicals. I also hate it when they make Atsumu take alot of showers and wash his hands. Realistically it would be better if you notched it down to one shower because most people only take one shower a week/few days/day. Sakusa's personality doesn't revolve around him being a germaphobe.
I hate fanon Iwaoi, Iwaizumi's character is over exagerated, making him the bad guy but if you haven't watched haikyuu, you would know that he cares for Oikawa in the most subtle ways, making sure oikawa wasn't too distracted by his fan girls, and making sure he wouldn't stay up too late because Iwaizumi saw the cd of the match, assuming he was going to stay up late to watch it.
I also really hate how the fandom make Ushiwaka seem like some sort of rock. We all know that he's just serious and he isn't too energetic like others. the fandom makes him look like my grandfather on facebook.
When I write fanfictions, I usually do alot of research, I double check scenes of the characters involved and I also look at the haikyuu wiki to analyze the character. I think it's important to get the personality right or else it doesn't work.
I agree with you especially about the Ushiwaka part some people make him seen like he doesn't understand basic things like "Pranks" he's not dumb he is probably on of the smartest characters.

Jfjsjdja one thing that really made me almost give up on this fandom was Suga, for sure. Like I saw so many videos with him being SO FEMINIZED like bro with the “overprotective mom” or, as mentioned “crazy wine aunt” like that shit was just too much- there are very few text tubers who actually get the personalities and traits of the characters correct...what really pisses me off is that TO THIS DAY, whenever I see a Haikyuu text video with Suga in it, since he is a male, they obviously use the pronouns he/him. So whenever they use those pronouns, just for a split second, my brain gets totally confused as to why they’re using “he/him” since he’s so feminized as female characters, such as, again, mom and wine aunt. I also realize that it’s also partially my fault as well for watching so many of those videos that my brain has switched to automatically processing Suga as a feminine character. It really annoys me and I’m so glad I finally got to rant here ab just one of the hundred things that really fkn piss me off ab this community

I really agree with 9 as African American myself I was so hyped to see Aran and how much of a power house he is and there being a black character, he became one of my favorites so fast I love his interactions with his team and the Miya twins since I’m a twin my self I just thought they did him good. But the fandom really gave no shit and would pass along to be basically a “forgotten” like wtf even is a “forgotten” Aran should be placed in that role along with many other characters! just because toxic side of the fandom ignores him! It pisses me off when I talk about him or my twin, or my friends, and when we bring him up everyone seems like they forgot him and just push him into “oh, he must be stereotypical black person” like the fuck-I can’t tell you how many times I have heard racism thrown to him. (Get ready cause this is long and I have LOTS to say) First, I 100% agree with you. What some people in this community do (like with the racism and obvious fetishization of gay men) is absolutely disgusting and makes me so uncomfortable. And it honestly feels like it’s just normalized and that’s not okay. And to add onto that, making Yachi and Kiyoko obsessed with “their ships” strips away from the strong characters they actually are. And to just make them like that seems completely invalidating. And, to me at least, it seems that some textubers use them as self inserts almost. Nothing wrong with projecting yourself onto a character, I do that. But to only use them to “expose” or obsess over ships is so toxic. And like you brought up with racism, you are 100% correct. Like with your example with Terushima and Aran, we know barely anything Terushima outside of general personality (this includes with the time skip) however with Aran we know so much and he’s such a vital part to the story. This includes with the time skip. And to see people disregard him and instead put a character with like, three minutes of screen time, when you have a fully fleshed out character to use seems invalidating. Like, I guess I could excuse it if the creator hasn’t seen that anime or read the manga up to that point. Or if their storyline doesn’t have Inarizaki as a center. Those I can see. But if you are including all the teams, use Aran. He is such a good character and person honestly and to se people throw him off to the side is really harmful. And like you said with Suna. When I learned that people only thought of Suna as a stoner and an e-boy because of his eyes, I personally felt invalidated. Like, as an Asian person, giving a character an entire personality because of their eyes is so toxic and invalidating I just hate it. And outside of that. Calling the characters rats, even if you know how that term is harmful, is just not okay. If you are not Asian, that is not your term to use. And like you said with the trans and gender bend stories, you are so right. To make only one of the characters a girl (and as you said the one who is usually seen as a “bottom”) is so invalidating and it pushes the heteronormative ideology and honestly seems a bit homophobic. And while their are good trans stories out there, some of what I have seen just seems like it was written by a cis person. As a trans person myself, to see characters not really being given what they deserve for lack of better terms just makes me feel wrong. Like if you want to write a trans character, use correct pronouns for them all throughout the story line, even before they might discover their identity. Like this mainly applies to the narrator. And if you are writing a trans character, it might be good to give them dysphoria. This can be body or perceived dysphoria. (If you don’t know, perceived dysphoria or whatever the term is is when you want to be perceived as your gender rather than your sex. If that makes sense. I personally struggle with perceived dysphoria more than I do body, but that doesn’t make my gender or experience any less valid). And to get rid of that seems to get rid of one of the many struggles that many trans people actually face. One person brought up that they found out they were trans through gender euphoria instead of dysphoria and that totally makes sense to me. So instead of needing dysphoria, you should instead try to have that realization for the character no matter what that may be. That isn’t a must, but it might help push the narrative if you are centering your story around discovering if that makes sense. Thank you Lysander for bringing this to my attention. It was very helpful. Another point like what you said with Natsu is so disgusting. She’s a child and when people do that, it just seems like their fetishizing minors and/or their loss on “innocence”. And with the whole parent thing. I’m going to be talking about actually parenting like in those AUs. More off than not, in the AUs where a couple has a child, one of the partners is seen as a dad and the other is seen as a mom. Like, the kids call them mom and dad. And to do that not only reenforces the idea that their needs to be one man and one woman in a relationship or that a child needs a mom to be properly raised but it also invalidates actual real gay couples with actual real children. I have no problem with making Suga the mom friend of the group (I honestly feel like every friend group has a mom friend in some way shape or form) but to only make him that completely strips away his actual character and his importance to the series. And just in general, people base characters off one single trait. Like they take one part of their personality and make that it. These characters are not one-sided and Furudate does a great job of making every character different and unique and just overall does a great job with fleshing out characters. So to make them only one thing is just invalidating. Most every single character is more than what they present at face value. Now the whole $uicide thing. Like, I have no issues with making a character depressed because mental health is a very important matter. But the way that some people carry it out is just not okay. If you want to write a depressed character go ahead. But that shouldn’t be their only personality trait and it should be done in a respectful way. I wouldn’t go as far to do $uicide because of how sensitive that topic really is. Like, if you want to make a character depressed for a story, do your research and put hotline numbers and other mental health resources in the description. Because that is something people struggle with and something I struggle with to to paint it in such a light is, yet again, invalidating. If you want to make one of those stories to project and cope, go right on ahead, but maybe put a warning saying it’s off your own experience and put those mental health resources in the description. I don’t care how irrelevant that seems, but those resources can quite literally save a persons’ life. I have so much more to say, but if I put it all in this, we’ll be here all day. But if you wanna hear me ramble more, I will gladly do so. TLDR: The Haikyuu textube community is really not the best and Furudate would honestly be disappointed.
I totally agree with what you're saying about the fandom, but personally, I don't think dysphoria is a necessary part of being trans. I am trans myself, and I'm not invalidating your experiences. It's just there are also trans people without dysphoria too, I realized I was trans through gender euphoria mostly, so I don't think it's fair to say trans characters "need" dysphoria. It's fine if the creator includes dysphoria to bring up trans people's struggles, but it's also fine if they don't. It all depends on how they approach the topic and whether they're being respectful.

Came for the entire fandom. But like I agree with everything. I used to not use the timeskips, but then I started doing it because I realized they are minors, so everytime I do a fanfic or smth, I say “They are over 20 years old“ or smth. And finally someone talked about Aran! I was so excited when Aran was introduced because he was our first dark skinned character (minus the 2 others) and people completely skipped him over. Like wtf? | (• ◡•)| He’s literally the Ace. And also Yachi. Wtf? What’s wrong with Yachi? She’s literally scared of people taller than her (mainly guys) and she needed to build up confidence to talk to some of them. Last one. The angst. I get it, the angst is something everyone can do and some people do enjoy watching it, but when it comes to suicide or self-harming or just something terrible, that’s a no-no. People can be traumatized or have PTSD and that’s even more terrible when it revolves around their favorite anime/comfort character
Someone finally said something about the stereotyping. I really hate the stereotypes. Not every top is mysterious or muscular. Some tops are feminine or on the smaller side and will still dominant better than stereotypical top. The stereotypes comes from hetero-normalcy. Where men have to be masculine go getters and women are dumb and pretty.
If people are only writing stories with the intent to stereotype characters (in general) then they shouldn’t be writing at all. You’re definitely right that not everything needs to be sexual or sexualized.

But the last one I have a different opinion on :D I don’t support ANYONE making fun of mental illnesses and making every character depressed bc it’s “sad” or “edgy” BUT I do feel like it would be a good plot if the character died logically in a fan fiction.

Murder

When people don’t age them up (for more mature videos) it confuses me too. Like I do understand that some people like the school narrative (which is a reason I think people don’t age them up), but you don’t have to make it 20 years in the future. Like college exists, you can make them fully consenting adults and have them be in college if you need that school narrative so badly.

Like i understand if you want to have a ship in a video and have it like not in ALL canon. Like lets say you just change or add a small character trait to a character you may think of as plain without this small trait. Like how about we have
