      the honda with kit ecu is capable of a very nice high rpm power band esp with the rev extension where it continues to make good power. Would be nice to see one of your dyno back to back with a zx10 and bmw. I have raced against the honda on rolls and it just walks everyone from 190-205+ (kit ecu velocity stack mr12 exhaust and a bit shorter gear.) I'm on a zx10 and i im ahead until 185 and then honda just walks me

      My question is what kinda power could you see if there was a engine build on that motor 🤔. Big bore, ported head, cam? I'm leaning towards a ZX14 because I had 2 put a lot of money 💰 into my gen 2 ZX10 to get the power that these newer ZX10's are making with full exhaust & ecu tuning. Your best guess will be appreciated

    The invention of the Dyno for seeing how your bike or car engine was a huge step forward in engine tuning. It's just like having a window seeing how you can improve your engine performance. When years ago you would buy add on's and hoping when you drove your car or bike you noticed a different. But with the Dyno you can see some big or little changes. Where in the old days there's no bloody way you would ever notice such things. You are truly the master of horse power Brock.

      I ran a slightly modded 2019 or 2020 zx10 on my 2020 Hayabusa and he pulled from me like I was completely stock. All I had was an air filter and exhaust but still. After a couple of pulls we switched rides and did some pulls. What a bike! I thought being 1000cc and lower torque than my bike it would lay on takeoff but nooooooo, that thing is a rocket!!!! I'm 215 or so suited, other guy is about 135 with gloves and helmet but it was still no contest. The newer liter bikes are no joke!

    you know, I'm from dayton, but when I was riding street bikes in the late 90's I didn't have internet and I had no idea you were around. I had a 97 ZX7R with a muzzy full exhaust and a factory jet kit. after I installed the exhaust myself, I took it to a guy named Dyno Bob and he said he wasn't comfortable installing the jet kit. the dyno run without the jet kit showed 114hp. I had the dealership install the jet kit and then dyno'd it. this time it was 113hp. I sure wish I knew about you back then so I would've gotten the most out of my bike.

      Hello! I know Dyno Bob very well as his Dyno was my go-to from the early 90's until the early 2000's. If you went to Kil-Kare on any Test and Tune night, I was there. At the time I had a "real job" to pay my bills and ran Brock's Performance out of my living room and garage at night and on the weekends. I didn't really do much wrench work locally as the reputation of my engine building capabilities somehow managed to make it up to the street racing population in the Chicago area. I built a bunch of really fast motors that won a whole lot of money. I didn't officially start Brock's Performance as my full-time gig until 2002. Even then, I didn't do much work locally, because it was pretty much impossible to handle that type of work along with the growth of my company. When we moved into our larger facility in 2008, we were so busy that I had to tell American Suzuki that I couldn't race any longer, is Brock's Performance took up all of my time. Today, our dyno is 100% booked with product development work for Brock's Performance and really has been since I built the dyno there. Our dealer locator is a great source if you need a dyno, engine build, or products installed. As far as the results with your jet kit... Peak horsepower results were always limited because carbureted bikes typically ran on the rich side, if anything, at wide open throttle... The problem was the drivability was incredibly poor until you got to wide open throttle (big brother before fuel injection). So while your peak dyno results might not have impressed you, I hope you received the increased drivability that a good install and adjustment can provide. Good luck and go fast! ( In Mexico 😉) Brock

    • @Mechashiva76
      @Mechashiva76 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@BrockDavidson ah very interesting. I can say I and Dyno Bob were overall impressed with the power output. Sportrider Magazine's test bike only put out around 106hp vs my 113'ish.
      2nd question, I took my exhaust for my 1986 KDX200 to a powder coat shop to have them dip it in a strip tank to remove the carbon buildup inside it, but they said it didn't work. do you have recommendations on where or how to remove the carbon? I used a drill with a steel cable, but there's still some in there. Or do you know if carbon buildup makes that big of a difference? initially, there was about 1/8th inch buildup inside the header side. it's a lot cleaner now, but I can still see about 3-4 millimeters of carbon inside that I can't reach with a brush.

    • @BrockDavidson
      @BrockDavidson  ปีที่แล้ว

      The lessons in this video apply everywhere, especially the smoothness during cornering. While big power may not be your target, as an (obvious) student of handling, you know how a poor tune will disrupt you chassis...especially on the exit.

      @@BrockDavidson Thank you for answering, and you are absolutely correct about throttle response - there are few things as disconcerting as coming off a corner (1st gear being worst) and have the engine hesitate and/or coming on with an abrupt hit. Such poor throttle response, which plague a surprising number of modern motorcycles, is of course annoying just riding along in ordinary traffic, and adding a passenger exacerbate the issue and typically add banging helmets to the mixture for additional entertainment. Hence many owners would benefit greatly from a tune the way you do, even if they are not looking for more outright power.

    Brock,
    You are tuning the bike via a power commander with the BT used to unrestricted? Why not just apply your tune to the ecu via woolich in customary fashion?

    • @BrockDavidson
      @BrockDavidson  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you mean import the PCV fuel map into the ECU using 3rd party hacker software... the reasons are simple:
      A. The import function does not work correctly, especially on the dual injector bikes which rule the sportbike market.
      B. Ease of tunability. Japanese Sportbike ECU's are still quite neandertal when compared to automobiles and even compared to the latest crop of fast Euro bikes. This makes the PCV's simplicity and ease of tuning/adjusting work in harmony very well with them.
      C. Under race conditions, the PCV's simple format makes altering the fueling to match the current atmospheric conditions an easy and very beneficial task.
      D. The use of an inexpensive map selector switch allows for instant fuel map swaps on the fly. This not only comes in handy when accomplishing C above but it can also be used to compensate for poor quality fuel (run a rich/safe map until better fuel is available) or provide additional drivability/power when traversing between high and low altitudes.
      E. Anyone who disagrees with any of the above, does not own a dyno outfitted with all of the measuring and data logging equipment we have at our disposal here at Brock's Performance - much less 40 years of sportbike tuning experience to comprehend and properly implement positive performance enhancements as a result of the information provided.

    • @RugerGundog
      @RugerGundog ปีที่แล้ว

      Chatted with Don quite a bit in past years, he seemed to frown on the Power Commanders referencing failure rates. Not saying I can vouch for that as true or not but am in loop with several tuners using software to make tuning changes directly to the ecu vs a PC...even a few use both on same bike. I'm running a gen2 zx14r and gen6 zx10r both with a reputable tuner making changes via woolich software ( also unrestrict)unrestricted.
      But I guess back to the bike here. I suppose I would of thought you could of sent your tuning adjustments right to BT and had them load it to the handheld device.

    Brock, this is an OUTSTANDING video. Especially seeing how with each addition, from Penta-carbon exhaust to the 3 different velocity stacks how you can see the numbers changing; increasing or falling short. That being said, do you believe the GEN 6 Velocity Stacks would be a wise choice to swap into my 2017 ZX-10RR? In addition, I checked the Kawasaki Parts and surprisingly, the 2017, 2018 and 2019 ZX-10RR all share the same the part part number for Duct, Funnel, #1, #2 and Duct, Funnel #3, #4. Yet the 2021 and 2023 ZX-10RR (there was no 2020 or 2022 model ZX-10RR) Parts Diagram shows NO STACKS in the Air Cleaner. What do you make of this? // EDIT: I found out why. The 2021 and 2023 use Variable Air Intake that is regulated by servo to maximize output at all rpms. When the funnels are raised, intake bypasses the system for optimal high RPM. When lowered, intake air passes through the taller intake funnels for increased mid-range performance. How neat is that?

    • @BrockDavidson
      @BrockDavidson  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      lol, I love marketing. Dollar's to doughnuts the variable rate intake is designed to reduce inlet noise. As far as "should I" - I can't answer that, but you can do the work and let us know what you think.

      @@BrockDavidson Based on your video, the Gen 6 Stacks proved beneficial over the Gen 5 stacks in your test. So, if I were a betting man, I'd say what you proved for the Gen 6 stacks over the gen 5 stacks, it might be reasonable to believe there is an update to the Gen 5 design that led to a newer Part Number for Gen 6.; therefore, more power across the curve. They are a relatively cheap purchase so, I'll keep you posted!! Thank you for your response Brock!!

    Brock, I am tossed up between your Penta-carbon full system and the new CT Meg. I like the cleaner, all black, shorter look of the Penta-carbon, but, I have to question as to why you introduced the new CT Meg? Does the CT Meg show better numbers on the dyno? Is there a video comparison available I can watch??? Will you soon offer the CT Meg as a all matte black ceramic coating like the Penta-carbon? And between the two, I saw the SAE J2825 db specs on both exhausts at your website, but which one sounds deeper (not louder), but deeper. Thanks again Brock. For $2K, I just want to make an informed decision between the two exhausts available.

    • @BrockDavidson
      @BrockDavidson  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Tim, the Busa is the king of drag racing and has an endless aftermarket following to allow you to customize it to suit your needs. At your weight, we would shy away from 1000's as the smaller clutch and low torque make for a bad time at the track for bigger guys. For all bolt-on street performance with occasional drags, the ZX-14R is hard to beat for bigger guys also. 600's are for guys that weigh as much as one of your legs, lol. Hope this helps.

The only things that would make sense on the Gen 6 ZX-10R's would be the additional power. The more power an engine makes, the naturally louder it is. More power at lower throttle openings can make angry tones also.

    I’m confused on what exactly a power commander does? At one point I thought it collected data for a baseline flash and now I’m starting to think it’s a device that can switch between types of flashes or tunes? Second thing, can you tune a bike with a flash on it? I thought a tune was basically a flash specifically for your bike. And I thought a flash, from brentuing for example, is a tune that all bikes (all bikes as in same brand and model) can use. In other words a flash is a very general tune that all bikes can use.
