Xanadu is one of those special songs that you discover when you are young that dives straight into your mind and musical intellect, that in my opinion sets a standard of musical proficiency that is hard to replicate.
You sir are a Stud! Capital S in stud. The hours and hours and hours you dedicated to achieve this greatness is mind blowing to me. I just watched 2112 first side video and my mind was blown,I have been playing for 30 years and I love RUSH, and I feel positive Alex has watched your vids and smiled!
I'm up-thumbing 'em before I even see the video!!!!! You know he'll nail it! C'mon! Flipping awesome dedication, man!(sorry so many exclamation marks!)
Nice job overall. not sure if you have one but you can get very close in the beginning with a volume pedal for those note swells. I have even used volume nob...... But a bit tougher to pull off. Cheers! 😬👍🏻🎸🎸
HIGHLY impressed!! I LOVE this song, it is one of my all time favorites, you did it justice for sure, and I learned a LOT from watching...Thanks for putting this together, and all of the other ones you did, Great job!
i love all your videos rush is my all time fav band i can watch you play them for hours and maybe even days youve inspired me to go out and buy a guitar i will master all these songs keep up the good work
Have you ever considered changing that note at 3:37 after you hit two open e strings and then do that strange note instead to a e minor? Like instead of: 0 0 - -| | 0 0 - -| - - 2 -| |- - 2 - | - - 2 -| |- - 2 - | - - 4 -| |- - 1 - | - - - -| |- - - - | - - - -| |- - - - |You would do this second one instead? I've been doing the e minor for that part since I learned the song and there isn't much difference in sound I'm just wondering which one is correct, the first one(the one you do) or the second one, or maybe neither.
Hey man, great playing!! I liked the way you used your Chorus on clean sound. My Rush Tribute Band has added Xanadu to the setlist and I was searching for some videos to check how I play and how people play. Would you give me your Chorus's settings? And also, the final chords at 11:35, I'm playing in a hard way with a long finger stretch. Would you please tab how you built that chord? Once again, great job! Really good stuff from you! Cheers from Brazil
I remember learning how to play this song when I was a beginner. I remember struggling with that riff at 2:38 but I was so amazed at myself when I got it after 5 minutes of playing it. Nice cover and great song man!
These are the tabs they give after the percussion... You are in a different position and I like your chords better... Could you please tell me the chords you are playing after the long scale run? Thanks for your help!!! ---5--2--0--0---| 9--7--4--2--0---| 9--7--4--2--4---|
You nailed it , maybe you should consider making Rush guitar lessons as there are few good ones to be found. If they were to be be as good as your guitar playing, every guitar player that loves Rush would be on top of that.
Hi Blobblob22, I appreciate that it's been a while since you posted this cover, which is awesome incidentally! But I just wondered what effects/pedal you used in the opening swells/harmonics?
You inspire me. To me, Alex Lifeson is untouchable-but seeing you perfect his stuff has made me realize that he's not the only one who can play like that! It gives me more incentive to play guitar :-D
I keep coming back to this video out of just awe, I have the whole song minus the second half of the solo down(the really fast parts), I can pretty much play as fast as The Analog kid goes on its intro and the intro to Finding My Way but I just can't nail this solo 100% does anybody have tips(you too bloblob :) )
Since I'm pretty sure most of the effects are post effects, could you tell me what you use during the intro(or entire song if at all possible)? I just can't stop watching this cover, I've learned almost the entire song from it :)
I use chorus effect with a lot of delay in the intro. I plug guitar straight into a Boss Micro BR which has built in effects. I also use a Boss overdrive and distortion pedal during the rest of the song.
Xanadu is one of those special songs that you discover when you are young that dives straight into your mind and musical intellect, that in my opinion sets a standard of musical proficiency that is hard to replicate.
I think we've found Alex Lifeson's youtube channel
yes...he just does not like to show his face ...
Lol, i'm getting suspicious too :-D ....maybe his son???
Right?? This was absolutely unbelievable! He played it to perfection - very, very nice work!
Too perfect..must be him
Great job!!
The 4 dislikes must be music critics from the 70's...tragic...
thanks :)
The beginning of this was spectacular, and magical. You really did Alex Lifeson proud with this...Amazing harmonics bro. Loved this...PEACE
You are the Yoda of guitarists.

thanks a lot, appreciated :)
Wow, Nice!
I never heard anyone play the beginning part without the volume swells but that was great!
Thanks for posting this.
Great job....I used to play this back in the early 80's and needed a refresher. Easy to follow,

+Daniel Hummel Chorus effect with a lot of delay, can't remember the exact settings
What kind of guitar are you using? Because i am going to start playing and i was wondering what would be a good one.
It's a Tokai 'Love Rock' Guitar
I always enjoy ya covers

+Jean-René PIRLET thanks :)
Great Tone!
Amazing that you learned that. You should be in a tribute band!!
Awesome!!
This is the Exit Stage Left track, correct?
+Justin Desens (The Clockwork Angel) Yes :)
Have you ever considered changing that note at 3:37 after you hit two open e strings and then do that strange note instead to a e minor? Like instead of:

+Nick Kelly I play E5 chord

How long did it take you to get this down? Amazing.
Bravo!!!
Amazing cover! Those lovely open chords is Alex's trademark. They have a mysterious, mystical sound.
Cosmik Debris the open chords are being shorted just a bit.
Best guitar player I've seen..
I'm a huge rush fan. In the studio recording the key of the song is in between e and f. It's kinda weird but live they play it in e.
I think they just sped the entire track up after recording it in E, thus slightly raising the pitch a quarter step or so
Wow well done
This is a great cover
thanks :)
Right on Dude!!!
thanks :)
holds bic lighter up! I never get tired of watching your videos Blobblob22.
Perfect! loved it.
I remember learning how to play this song when I was a beginner. I remember struggling with that riff at 2:38 but I was so amazed at myself when I got it after 5 minutes of playing it. Nice cover and great song man!
4:20 is on a twelve string if you didnt know, but you do great with it here!
But can't you use an octave pedal to match with that to get the 12 string sound.
Nice tone but could dial it down a bit on the chorus and use a volume pedal
This was great! I am trying to learn it but I'm not even past the intro.
It's so pretty. Thank you.
Thanks:)
love your vids man.A1!
Absolutly Love it!
pure class m8
Man, you are a virtuoso!
I do my best :)
Brilliant

Fucking Excellent!
Beeeautiful! My fave song to play (your harmonics are better than mine)
Exit Stage Left version?
Thanks, it's the version from the Exit Stage Left video
You nailed it , maybe you should consider making Rush guitar lessons as there are few good ones to be found. If they were to be be as good as your guitar playing, every guitar player that loves Rush would be on top of that.

s2classic I used a chorus effect and a lot of delay.
Blobblob22 Appreciate the reply. Many thanks!

Are the birds suppose to be in that song?
yes, actually!
It would be a sad state of affairs if they weren't in it
Since I'm pretty sure most of the effects are post effects, could you tell me what you use during the intro(or entire song if at all possible)? I just can't stop watching this cover, I've learned almost the entire song from it :)
