I actually taught myself this song the old fashion way back in 1982. La Villa was a mere five years old. “Back in my day…” we didn’t have fancy iPads and TH-cam tutorial videos. What I would have given for the tabs! Nice work and thx for sharing. It’s time to pick up the guitar and relearn it.
Alex is my favorite rock guitarist. I used to buy Rush vinyl albums the day they came out, starting way back in '75-'76. Loved 2112, Caress of Steel, Hemispheres, Farewell to Kings, etc. Great band! Nice videos Etienne!
Not only is your tone near spot on to the record, but your solo playing is so perfect and the only way I can tell is from the slight latency between the backing track and you. The best La Villa cover out there by fat
Fantastic, well done maestro! One (very) small note (double entendre) to add: While playing the I-IV-V barre chords of the Strangiato Theme ( ex @2:12 ), bar the low E string with the A string on the IV & V chords. That added low 5th is a common Lifeson technique that really adds depth and power to a common barre chords, and is employed on many songs in the Rush catalogue. Thanks for the jam!
Man...well done. As an avid guitar player, and Rush fan, I congratulate you, and admire you - because I know the skill level required to play this. Thank you for the tab also - I'll plow my way through this.
Amazing... never seen a cover so spot on. So good, I can't tell if Alex's guitar is even in the mix (guitar kinda sounds doubled, but maybe not?). Curious what you think of the Exit Stage Left solo for Villa. It's my holy grail of doing a Rush cover on guitar. But so much reverb oise, hard to hear exactly what he's doing at times. If you tabbed this yourself, would be a next level challenge to try to tab that one. Been looking for tab of that solo for 35 years, lol. Thx for posting, cheers. Wow.
Thank you! Yes, Alex's guitar is in the mix but I turned it down a little bit depending of the section. The Exit Stage Left version is an awesome live rendition and it would indeed be a challenge to tab out. Maybe someday!
If I could play the guitar like that I would never put it down. That sounded great. It’s one of my favorite songs.
It's the most amazing guitar solo. It's like it tells a story, with a beginning, middle, climax, and ending. It's just brilliant.
Well done! I have half assed this song for over 40 years. and after watching this video, i still am unfortunately. ha ha
I think you’re in large company. 😂 You can watch Nolan Ryan pitch all day. But will that enable you to throw an 85 mph curve ball?

Same! I wore the cassette tape out rewinding over and over and over!

Damn, killed it! Great tone and playing! Thank you for the TABS. They are a goldmine of information.
Thank you! That was a lot of work, I'm glad it is useful
Excellent work. Probably the most true to Alex La Villa guitar cover. Very well done.

That's a beautiful Gretsch White Falcon
Outstanding
This should keep me busy for a few years.
Brilliant video and playing, and so grateful to you. Just one comment: Hemispheres was 1978, not 1977.
Nice job! I have that Epi Tribute Plus in Sapphire Blue, Epiphones best LP, shame they stopped building them!
Félicitations ! 👍🏼
That's great.
Thx so much! It helped me a lot!!🙂
wow. great job.
Wow!
Superb
Nice
amazing!
Thanks!
two probably dumb questions: is it lifeson guitar audio and you are playing along in video? and why did you switch to les paul?
Great
