    Man, your video saved me!! I was about to give up with my 6D, I bought it the last year, a preowned unit in a really great condition, just as an upgrade after selling my 7D. I used to own a 5D Classic many years ago, and I was really excited about getting a full frame camera again. But somehow, something seemed to be wrong with it, no matter what I tried, the pictures were so blurry, I tried many focus settings, I tried setting the focus point manually just as I used to do it on my 7D, but, the pictures kept coming out super blurry, not to mention the colors on the preview were really weird. This afternoon I found your video, I reset my camera to factory setting and I followed your video from the start to the end. I took some sample shots and the results impressed me a lot, the changes are noticeable, and focus is way faster. Thank you so much for sharing this, it helped me so much. It's hard to find videos about old gear nowadays, in a world full of Fujifilm x100vs and Sony A7s. I really didn't want to get rid of this camera, my first DSLR was a Rebel XS, and I liked the Canon DSLR feeling on the hands. Thanks alot!!!

    It really is a great camera. I've been using it for 7 years and while the autofocus isn't that easy to work with, the sensor is extremely good, especially in low light. Great combo with L glass and Sigma Art!

    Coffee purchased. Although I know you intend to re-do this video, I nevertheless did watch it twice and adjusted a few settings I'll be trying. Owners manuals are often OK explaining what a setting does, but rarely are they able to explain WHY someone may or may not want to make an adjustment. The result is that we're often left with wondering why cameras seem to have endless ways of doing the same thing, instead of things simply.
    Of course, no company will dare leave reprogrammable functions out or they'll probably get eviscerated by reviewers.

    I received my 6D in the mail today. Thanks for putting me on this path Martin! I shoot with an R6 and was about to spend way too many € on the RF 50mm 1.2. Instead I now have my very first DSLR Full Frame camera with an excellent image sensor (I've only ever shot mirrorless so far, starting on Micro4/3). This camera will be an excellent addition to my R6 for portraiture, and it came with the EF 50mm 1.8 in the box. I'm very excited!

    Hello, I'm from Ukraine, I also have this wonderful Canon 6D camera, it has just wonderful color, I watch your channel, you have an interesting and pleasant presentation of the material in your videos.
    We don't have the best times for photography right now, as people are quite nervous when they see a camera because they think it might be a spy taking pictures of critical infrastructure objects to impress missiles, but when I have the opportunity to take pictures, I forget for a moment that we are at war.
    Glory to Ukraine and great gratitude to the USA for your help to us.

    Thanks Martin - really useful tips for my 6D setup.
    The 6D really is a classic, and it's very kind of your viewer to gift one to you since you did some stunning work with your previous 6D.
    I bought a 6D a few months ago, and it has re-kindled my interest in photography lost in the early days of digital, when the results I obtained were far too "digital" and I really missed the "analogue" nature of film.
    I don't want to criticise other cameras or camera manufacturers by name, but to my eye few digital camera sensors are capable of producing such natural looking images as the 6D.
    I shoot JPEG at present, setting Sharpness high - just below maximum using the Auto picture style. Do you find yourself often sharpening a RAW file shot on the 6D? I guess not so much for your portrait shoots?
    As a constructive comment, I found myself pausing your video to take notes frequently, since the delivery was excellent but quite fast-paced.
    I don't comment on all your videos, but I really appreciate all your quality content and laid back delivery, free from gimmicks and unecessary melodrama...

    • @MartinCastein
      @MartinCastein  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the sharpness thing you have to judge depending on the lens and lighting etc and adjust accordingly, noted on the speed thing, a couple of other people mentioned this too, was worried it would get too boring if its slower but clearly should have been slower.

    I finally bought a really nice 6D mk1 last week and (just like the 5D-2, I think the outer points on it work pretty well for me.) Martin doesn't like the accuracy of the peripheral focus points. Martin knows WAY more than I ever will, BUT, on hearing his comments here about how he has never liked back button focusing, and doesn't ever use it, I wonder if it's possible that using BBF (as I do) gets better performance from of the outer focus points than single focus/lock mode?

    • @MartinCastein
      @MartinCastein  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I think the focus performance is the same for back button or using the shutter button. I dont think there is some sort of boost mode with back button focus. Everyone should use whatever works best for them. I have no reason to dislike back button focus, i just dont like the feel of it, thats all. The outer focus points are just ok, it depends so much on the lens though. Some lenses seem to work much better with the out focus points or just focus better in general than others. I use the outer focus points but depends on lens and aperture. I test each lens to see how it performs with them then decide really.

    If I might make a constructive suggestion...As I've mentioned previously how much I appreciate your laid-back, non-hyped approach to your videos, I've been finding your more recent ones a bit difficult as your editing is making everything flash by a bit too quickly, often too much so to register.
