I owned a Maico 490 alpha 1 Back in the day but the Corta Corso or how ever you pronounce it shock kept bending had to have it fixed constantly. Then i blew it up when i put a Spark plug in the Compression release hole and Clipped the Rings. i was just a Dumb Kid back then man i miss that Bike Gobs of Power But what a Pain to start when you are short. Great Vid brought back some memories thanks.
I know, right? It really puts into persepective the picture of the 760 Maico piston I saw, which positively dwarfed the 490 piston next to it. Incredible.
Look at 2:42 the front of the piston has holes in it. Forged pistons like Weisco should have 3 holes drilled in the piston for engines with exhaust bridges. Cast Stock piston does not require this. This is to lubercate the exhaust bridge, otherwise it will get hot and can cause ring siezure. The pen was just to locate the position for the holes.
nice vid :) i have a 82 maico, with a 81 mega 2 490 motor, which i managed to start after a lot of blood sweat and tears lol. all was good until it made a nasty crunching sound from the gears, and come to a hault :( thats it now, its gotta have a re build. wish me luck :)
Ya you're supposed to. I didn't really torque the head down that much I just put it together so I could test the spark so was faster just do a circle. I had no idea if the ignition was ok or not. Infact, I found that the spark plug cap wasn't even setup, the wire was just put in there so I wasn't getting spark! I had to trim the wire up to get it to touch the plug, almost thought that the ignition might be bad.
To rebuild an engine? Depends on what it needs, typical rebuild of everything is going to be around 800 dollars to get all the main things replaced that wear out. But depends on how much needs replaced, if things are broken that don't usually wear out it adds cost.

Deck height?
Should'nt you criss cross when u were tightening down the head?(I guess it's not as critical as like a cars head tourquing pattern huh?
the song is (haitz) it's not easy on iTunes.
that is one sweet motor
Ya, that 760 is a big piston
That's an 87mm piston, my KTM 495 I got a new piston for it's a little bigger, it's 92.84
Ahh!ok.....That piston looks like a mortar round!(BIG!)
