Credit to Tony for creating a professional easy flowing interview listening and guiding allowing Noddy to share his stories without interruption, even though he is a natural raconteur. I’ve done many radio interviews with 70s & 80s artists myself and it’s always a fine balance allowing the artist space and still guiding the guest at the same time. Noddy’s linear memory is razor sharp which gives so much more depth to the stories and facts, quite rare. Always thought it ironic that that they recorded MCE in New York yet never cracked the U.S in the seventies with lots of tours. Queen and 10CC to my knowledge divided the royalties out whoever wrote the song, keeping a fair democracy within their bands. Therefore must have been hard for Dave and Don having to continue to tour when Noddy and Jim moved on with their royalties as their life pensions, credit to them though for such a great batch of songs. Slade in Flame the movie I thought was excellent, often overlooked but a gritty take on the music business.
It just occurred to me that Dave Hill and Tony Blackburn in their 70s heyday looked very similar aside from the hairstyles!

Great interview, so lovely to learn about the background of Slade and the industry etc, These 70's Xmas songs will still be being played in another 50 years. Their longevity is timeless, when other more modern songs have been and gone. I love Slade and was 9 when I started listening to 'Cuz I love you', learning the violin at school, so when Jim Lea played the violin I was hooked. I still play Slade's 'Greatest Hits' CD in my car today. A great era of music in my opinion.

Part of my upbringing within music. And….part of the British slant on music and survival in the crappy early 70’s music industry within its own time-scale. Top job.

Slade were my favourite band when I was a teenager. It was so exciting listening to the chart at lunchtime, I think on a Tuesday. I was always late for school on that day, because Slade nearly always went straight to number 1 or very close to it. The number 1 song obviously was the last one on the programme, which was around 1 o'clock, the time I should have been in school. But there was no way I was going to miss the DJ saying ' and straight in at number 1, is Slade'. Amazing band, that brought fun into music. Love you guys, you gave me a lot of happiness when growing up. All the best, greatest respect. Richard.

I saw Slade 10 times from 1973-92 in theatres, halls & little clubs in Liverpool & Birkenhead. They were 'my' band! I also saw Nod recently on the Tom Seals tour at The Lowry, he was incredible! He broke the news of his illness & I have to admit, I had a little cry. Good on ya Sir Neville, may you live forever!

Hey Tommy. That's the one and only time I've been in a Police van! Not ruling it out in the future. You had me that day my friend. Hope all is well.

Great interview. Grew up listening to Slade and watching TOTP, great memories. Still got my Slade Alive and Slayed albums along with a number of others.
