Quite a few members use hard hats for search and rescue operations in CAP, but it is not required. I personally haven't used one, but I know other members who have. The primary concern doing ES is to make sure the members on the team are being safe, and there's nothing wrong with wearing a helmet to keep your head protected!

If you are looking for a good helmet, you can look into climbing helmets. There are many you can choose from! A good place to find one would be REI, where I have gotten some of my other, specialized pieces of equipment (like my gaiters). A lot of the items can be purchased at Walmart or Target, like the duct tape, reflective vest, flash light, etc. I recommend looking at Walmart first for items, then you can look at specialized stores for items that you can't find.
I got these three years ago, and they're still working great! www.rei.com/product/852793/outdoor-research-rocky-mountain-high-gaiters-mens The reason I got these is because the velcro goes from top to bottom of the gaiter, and there's a little hook on the front that you can hook onto your laces. The tightness around your shoe at the bottom and strap at the top are nice. The high gaiters are a little more expensive, but they are better for covering the gap between your boot and pants leg.
You can wear either. The 24-hour list says orange, but orange and lime/yellow are acceptable! CAPR 62-1 Reference: "Every CAP member will wear appropriate safety vests or safety apparel as outlined below when participating in CAP ground functions during all times, day or night. Safety vests or safety apparel may be orange or lime green and may be worn with or without the CAP logo."

I have an Osprey brand backpack that I bought from REI several years ago. I believe it’s either a 24 or 30. Unfortunately, they may not be selling that style anymore after looking across their website for a link to share. You could try the Talon or Aura! I recommend looking at the packs in-person to get a stronger feel of the size and if it will fit your needs.

You can get glow sticks from dollar tree! However, it might be good to have one industrial-grade glow stick (one of the thicker ones that come with a hook and string)
CAP on the national level does not distribute a 24-hour pack. On the unit level, your unit may have with obtaining items, but it is the responsibility of the individual members to obtain the items and maintain properly.
@@Alex1997-1 Some squadrons may have extra uniforms, especially since the ABU uniform was just phased out for the USAF. I recommend asking someone in your unit what might be available. If you are joining as a cadet, you receive something called a Curry Voucher, and CAP will pay for the AF Blues uniform if you buy it from Vanguard. I recommend asking your unit first, and the Curry Voucher could be used for other items that your unit doesn't have, such as your name tape or wing patch.

I would get smaller cans of bugspray/sunscreen
As a GTL, my team members sometimes don't have bug spray, so I have a larger can for them to use if needed.

Are you allowed to carry a lighter to replace the matches?
I don't believe cadets are supposed to have lighters, but I can't find the text to reference. Matches would be the safer bet, and they are allowed.
Redberryweo the thing is I have a lighter but no matches. Lighters are easier to use and take up way less space.

I know it's really late in the game, but one I recommend is by the brand Mystery Ranch. They're kind of pricey, but really outstanding quality.
