Just letting you know I had a mini heart attack not seeing the yellow flannel

I Been Young is one of the most impressive pieces of 90’s/Y2K revival I’ve heard. Sounds like it was taken directly out of the era it’s borrowing from, the production is super authentic. I can tell George is super passionate about this style of music, he’s probably doing it better than anyone else right now.
Might be too early to tell but it might be the song of the year
@grantmaire5731 possibly! The song and album is such an incredible accomplishment
Yeah, reminded me immediately of The Beach ost, but the hifi turned to 11. Great album.
i tell people " you want to feel nostalgic from something youve never heard?"
It's a total m8d 80s SCRITI POLITI - PERFECT WAY type song but with different voice and theme
Definitely a 9/10 for me. Damn close to a perfect summer album. Incredible soundscapes. Clanton has done it again
Do you like the Nick Hexum collab? That thing has been playing nonstop every summer for like 3 years
100% agree. "Soundgasm" is fantano's best term here, because I cum to this album regularly
I... agree ✅️
Call me crazy but I genuinely think it’s a 10/10. Aside from maybe the chorus on the title track I find myself so hypnotized with the whole album. As soon as it finishes i immediately play it back
I agree. The album's Bside doesn't hit as hard as the Aside (mostly because of the critiques Fantano had with Vapor King & Sub Real), but the rest of the album is full of bangers with a nice outro.
George is 82 and still dropping albums? He truly is goated with the sauce
george clinton and george clanton are two completely different people

He finally put the yellow flannel in the wash. So proud of him!!
Strong 7/ light 8's don't get yellow flannel, Beach House review was the same. 8 but light so no flannel.
@@danielfreeman8725lights get flannel s
I mean its not that consistent. Im pretty sure hes done yellow flannel with 7s before
@@Drogon7102 he's been pretty consistent since it's been a thing. He use to just wear it on random ones until fans noticed a time where he happened to be doing it often on 8 or above, so he ran with it since it was a good visual indicator for thumbnails since people were more likely to click on an album they know is getting a good score and wanna hear why.
As someone ending his 20's and dealing with a lot of regrets and guilt from the younger years. This album hit like a truck.
Mood
Same, dude.
Nice to see Anthony give George Clinton an 8. He’s a legend. Parliament-Funkadelic never misses.
George Clanton is a different guy than George Clinton. Confused me too
They should collaborate
@@mainstreamintoxicated6021Clint, Clant, Boom - I'm comin down on the stereo hear me on the radio
The music sounds nothing like pfunk though. Pfunk was pretty lame to be fair nd nothing like synthwave etc, whatever wave
Show more replies
No there's a ton of great synthwave out their. I have nothing against pfunk per se, it's just boring for the most part, and it's nothing like Clantons sound.
Everything I Want is just a masterful opener. That chorus is infectious and it just radiates a pure 90s era of bliss with the alternative dance and shoegaze-like textures. Definitely a 9/10 album.
Reminds me of how Plainsong by The Cure opens the album, that movie theatre synth wall
needs to be longer!
George is such a talented artist. I cannot wait to see him on tour in October.
Same
One of the best live acts, if not the best, I've seen
Same dude, second time seeing him in boston
Ayo bro I saw him in Washington on Oct 11 he kicked ass
I have "I Been Young" on repeat since it dropped. Amazing sound.
Clanton killed it on this one. I Been Young is just so good. Those piano chords are so heavy
I Been Young is the best single of 2023 so far imo
YES
This is a cool vibe. I hear both 80s and 90s at once. Almost like Tears for Fears meets trip hop.
my thoughts exactly!
Most of his music is 80s rooted, even if he's trying to not do that. It's how it sounds. The beats are classic 80s stock Aitkin waterman sound. Facts
George has mentioned before that he loves Tears For Fears's 1993 album Elemental, and you can hear it's influence.
Meets my bloody valentine
@@HoulgravelyGreat album. Clanton knows his stuff.
George Clanton and Nick Hexum changed my life. Love this new album too and I get to see him with Frost Children and DDS this year!
Same here. I haven’t stopped listening to that thing since it came out, I’m so glad there’s a deluxe too
He's touring with frost children???
@@andresirigoyen yup! And they are hitting lots of small market venues. Coming right to my town of Lawrence Ks and I couldn’t be more ecstatic!
I got to see them in New Orleans last month! Such an awesome show.
Damn, big w for the vaporwave community
this is sooooooo beyond being vaporwave at this point
@@cerulean5881 That's the whole point
this is actually the album of the year i made my mind it's too late
this album is just awesome. I’m so glad we have someone like Mr clanton who is out here making this kind of music and doing it so perfectly. It just transports my soul to another dimension
finally a good fucking album
look up anything george and youll get good music
George Clanton is a monolithic ancient deity being sent from the Amazon
Like heavy on that one boss from Tekken with the long ass hair vibes
George is the best with this type of nostalgic sound. I don’t hear anybody nail the sound like he does
Title track explodes into blissful oblivion so quickly like George couldn’t contain the magic any longer
Love it
It almost has Cocteau twins vibes
@@dfkdb6249 yes! Track 10 vibes. I thought so too, but without the wait into the track
Plainsong by The Cure too
Same. Ooh Rap I Ya is like my fav track.
Back in 2018, I had absolutely no idea who George was and I honestly didn't know a vaporwave from a microwave. I randomly clicked on your review of 'Slide' just because I thought the album cover looked cool in the thumbnail and the record BLEW ME AWAY. I've been a massive fan ever since (thanks Melon!) and this album was so so so worth the wait. 9/10 for me and I'll be dancing my face off at his show on October 3rd!
You would’ve given it a 10 if you thought it was worthy of one
if it was call "Ooh Yea I Rap" you would have given it a 10/10
Woo! Yeah Light 8 is about right. Starts strong, ends strong, with a little 2 track lull in the middle. I Been Young definitely one of the best tracks of the year, came out right on my birthday too so I think it'll always have a place in my heart
One of the best chillwave albums I’ve heard in recent memory
Def not chillwave, but maybe chillwave for vaporgaze listeners lol
Send vaporgaze recs please
@@youngthomasyorke4074 s u r f I n g
It's too upbeat for vaporize, vaporize was always way slower since 2009. He's definitely closer to synthwave with some extra echos.
Vaporwave
One of the best of this year so far. Listened to it in the car on a busy freeway that surrounds the city, which might have helped to create the perfect experience for this album
God I love this album
Legendary album. George finally getting the recognition he deserves on these playlists as well and getting alot of attention. This is his year!!!
bro what the fuck how did i miss that george clanton dropped a new album!?!? im so excited! can't wait to check it out!!
George is such an awesome dude. Really good head on his shoulders and great asthetics
Great review Anthony, I thought you were shirtless in the notification, I clicked very fast.
I was just wondering if you were going to review this album and came online to check and here it is. It's exactly what I expected/asked for out of a George Clanton album and while I'm not surprised at all, I'm very amped up all the same.
My album of 2023. Incredible. Listened for the first time on my trip to PR last summer and I was sold by the incredible psychedelic world this album creates.
Nice review man. I may have ripped some of this off had I watched it before my written review of Ooh Rap I Ya for Future Sounds, ha. I'm gonna watch more of your videos - liking your vibe.
My 2nd favorite album of the year so far. Truly excellent, I love it! My favorite track is probably SubReal personally, or maybe Everything I Want. Great review too, as always!!
What’s #1👀
Is #1 scaring the hoes
Been listening to clanton since 2015, seriously some of his best stuff on this album
Punching down goes so hard
Yeah just listened to this album 3 times on repeat. It's my favorite of the year so far. Not really a "bad" song on it. If anything it can start to sound a little samesy but there's enough variation between the tracks that it never gets monotonous.
I Been Young is the best song this year. I didn't think he could replicate the brilliance of Slide, one of the best of the decade, and still one of the most underrated albums ever. He did it. I'm so excited to see him! Legitimate aoty contender
Best album of 2023 for me! Long live vaporwave!!
I didn't initially like this album, but I like it now thanks to this review.
Can we get another George Clanton interview? He’s such a genuine guy and it would be cool to hear from him again
i love this dude's music so much
George Clanton never ceases to amaze me. 👏
earlier today i was wondering when we were gonna get a review for this amazing album
His best song bleed sounds A LOT like tears for fears mad world. Love that he does some new sounds in their too.
Ok, but when's he gonna reunite Parliament-Funkadelic?
I'd liked a handful of his tracks in the past, but was pleasantly surprised when I saw the new album.
Both times Clanton has dropped an album I’ve been going through a brutal breakup how tf does he know!
Been waiting for this one. Glad you like it.
Incredible Album, your take is bang on.
What? 7 for Slide vs 8 for Ooh Rap I Ya (which's great, but still)? I demand a REDUX review of the former.
Nah, I have to agree. Great songwriting on Slide, but vocals as a whole are not as strong (both lyrics and mixing). Both great albums still.
I think is not an exaggeration to call it the screamadelica of the 20'
Never thought of that but it kind of makes sense
Clanton looks at the shirt in the thumbnail and thinks, "Dang, Antony gave me a 0."
This makes up for your Magic Whip comments the other day. Beef squashed, we cool 🤝
do not miss a live show from george
10/10 SHOUT OUT TO ROGECORP, AHERO, VINCENT, GEORGE, ADAM KANE, NEGGY AND HOTEL POOLS
i’ve missed seeing this shirt on you. classic/10.
Was hoping for this, love me some george
Any chance you're gonna review the new DDS album?
Great review melon for an amazing album🥳 shoutout mr clanton
I was with you about being apprehensive about the album drop initially. And I kinda agree with Vapor King/SubReal, though hearing it in the album as part of the flow I get it more. But the title track Ooh Rap I Ya is a total fuckin banger. And does a great job setting up the closing track. Actually it's probably one of my favorites.
This guy and OPN should do a collab. It can be called 'Catching the Vapors' or something.
If it was called Ohh U Top I Ya, it would have been a 7
Yeah my brother, biological put me o to this record last week. Some catchy pop music
Great album review.
Album cover is cool. I’m going to check this one out. ✌️
Dude your silence regarding "Joseph Shabason - Welcome to Hell" is deafening
How about the new Mammoth WVH album for a next review? First one was a good start for Wolfgang. I’d be interested in hearing your take on the new one
I'm going to need the BLP Kosher review Anthony. Chop chop.
Saw him open for Caroline Polachek and without any prior knowledge of who he was, I became a fan. Happy. Very happy.
So glad that George Clanton is still making great music! So far I like this album better than Slide, but it doesn't quite live up to 100% Electronica for me. I will have to give it more listens to solidify my opinion though. A light 8 sounds about where I'd rate it too
So many 8s this year goddamn!!!
The drum sound of this album is truly something special. All of the sound textures in this album actually are gorgeous
yes
Gigantic sound-gasms, you say... I want more. Where can I find more music like this?
Lust for Youth, Washed Out, Neon Indian are similar I think
Good review boy
I love when there's so many yellow flannels that you have to put it in the washing machine the nect time
Still waiting on the Albert Hammond Jr review!
YES GEORGE IS GETTING THE RECOGNITION WOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Looove this record. I feel like what makes it pop so well is the fact that he takes out a lot of cringy overdone sampling and synths of a lot of vapor wave and brings in genuinely touching lyrics as well. Its probably my favorite album of the year so far!
this album is so beautiful
LETS FUCKING GO!!! (vaporwaves everywhere)
The first vocal part is like an 80s scriti politi and late 80s boy band but then vocals go typical 80s new wave which is why it's strong
This is my album of the year
AOTY !!!!
Melon appreciating a killer album is a welcome direction. The review’s narrative was a bit inconsistent but overall good vibes on this video. I give this review a (liiiiiiight) 8/10.
I hope at this point whenever he does a yunoreview - he just puts up a pic of the christine and the queens album and says "i'm sorry"
Dan Mason definitely had a hand in helping with the synthwave
I think George said it was all produced by him but had help with one of the instruments for you hold the key and I found it and obviously the vocals on for you i will
What’s not to like about Vapor King ??? easily top 3 for me
Certified banger
This probably gonna be my AOTY
Def read that as George Clinton and I was like oooo did I miss something??? And then i was like ohhh....
Wow This shirt reminds me old needledrop
the last track is such a fucking vibe
Roland Juno + Zero G Datafile + Drugs = George Clanton
that opener everything i want made me damn near deaf the first 3 seconds are so low I turned my sh*t all the way up and got absolutely blasted by the 90's in the tone of the 20's
I just found George Clanton the other day from ChatGPT 👀
Vaporking has grown into being one of my favourite songs of the album. I still enjoy Slide more than this album but it’s still damn fine.
