Wish I had seen this video before getting my very first tarot deck! But I have to say this is definitely a very useful video for new tarot readers like me! Thank you so much for this and now I'm getting ready to get more tarot decks into my collection 😂

I wish I had too! Would have saved me getting. straight RWS deck. Would've gotten one f these instead, probably T4K, Everyday Witch, Light Seer, or Good Karma Tarot.

The Everyday Witch tarot was the first deck that I ever really connected with too 😊, I love the little black cat that appear throughout the deck, I always look for her in the cards when I’m reading with the deck, I’m a cat person, I own a 5 year old fluffy black cat named Dustin. The reason that the Everyday Witch connected with me is because there are no confronting or scary images in the deck, they are very approachable and friendly. I actually learned how to read Tarot with this deck.
As a more sensitive person due to my severe anxiety, I look for decks that are more gentle, warm and approachable. My newest deck the Tarot of a Witches Garden, has become a new favourite because of the comfy, cozy vibe of the deck, their aren’t any scary or confronting images in the deck and the guidebook is fantastic, there’s a little story about what’s happening in the image, an upright and reversed meaning, and the messages are all supportive and take a positive spin on the cards, even the harder cards. For example in the 10 of Swords it talks about the death of the ego, the woman in the image is choosing to let go of her ego, so that she can become more enlightened. I also love that in the artwork, she’s not dead, she’s actually removing the swords from her body, so she can get up and move on. What I love about Tarot of a Witches Garden is that it’s very gentle and supportive, like it’ll give you a hug and tell you everything is going to be ok. It’s one I would recommend to beginners because it is an approachable deck, there’s nothing scary or confronting in the deck, it’s also easy to understand what’s going on in each of the images on the cards as well as the emotion in the cards, and the guidebook is a thorough and engaging read.
As someone with severe anxiety (I’ve been diagnosed with 3 types of anxiety by my psychologist, generalised anxiety, social anxiety and OCD) I gravitate towards the more gentle decks that would be considered in the ‘hug deck’ category, because I find that the decks that are more dark and shadowy do trigger my anxiety, which is the opposite of the work I am doing with my Psychologist in managing the anxiety, I’m trying to reduce the anxiety as much as possible rather then trigger it. While I do see the value in shadow work, that’s not what I go to the cards for, I go to the cards for spiritual support, the shadow work I do through my work with my psychologist.

Everyday Witch is the second deck I've really deeply connected with after Tarot 4 Kids! I've never really like the dark, disturbing imagery of some decks. I think it obscures and confuses the actual meaning of the card. For example, I love how the Tarot for Kids deck changes the names of cards to make them more relatable to kids (and adults, really), like calling "the Lovers" "Best Friends." The card is about relationships, so this really opens it up. And ideally your romantic partner is your best friend! Or calling the Hanged Man Patience. It gets at the meaning and isn't confusing. Death is Change, Temperance is Balance, and as she said in the review, the Devil is changed to "the Bully."

@@frankm.2850 I absolutely love how they changed the names of the cards in Tarot 4 Kids to make them more approachable, not only that but the way they changed the names in that deck also, at least to me made the actual meaning of the cards make more sense. I think that those name changes actually illustrate the actual meaning of the card so much better

My first deck was the Morgan Greer Tarot! I love the imagery and a lot of the RWS symbolism is there. Definitely needed to use online resources and eventually a book to supplement learning with that one though!
Pretty early on I got two of the decks you mentioned - the Light Seers Tarot and This Might Hurt Tarot. The guidebook for This Might Hurt is available online actually and many of the card descriptions really helped me get a basic understanding of the cards.
Great list! I've been tempted to buy many of the decks in it. I've got the Phantasma Tarot so I always tell myself I don't need the Spiritsong Tarot but it is so charming! I wish that as a beginner I had given a deck with keywords a chance. :)

I wouldn’t put the spititsong tarot as a beginner deck, as much as I love it, it’s not that easy for a beginner to understand. It is wonderful to get attached to your intuition. I usually don’t read reversals so it’s not that important for me…

Modern Witch Tarot is another good one to consider: Great representation, modern iconography (the chariot is a motorcycle!) and its a bit playful (there's an alternate card for the ten of swords titled "Everything is fine"!). The imagery can be a bit darker, but its crisp and easy to read.

Just came across this video, thank you for putting it together for us beginners. Another deck i would have put on this list is the "Lucid Dreams Beginners Tarot" with key words by St. Soleil. I got that deck a couple of months ago and i love it. The imagery isn't traditional but IMO beautiful. The card stock is thick for me hard to shuffle, not my first deck but i wish it had been, but i still love it anyways.

I have several of these decks. My book club group did the Everyday Enchantment tarot a couple months ago. We wanted to honor her work. I did trim the deck because the cards are just too big. I also keep this deck in a bag , I do not like the box. The guide book is awesome! RIP Poppy.

So my first deck (and only deck so far) was the Good Karma Tarot. I was waiting the whole video for you to call it out and then when it was number one I was like yaaaasssss. I had a feeling. A couple of days ago I just got an urge to further my spiritual evolution and I decided to buy a tarot deck, I googled about good ones and I found about The Good Karma Tarot and it just called to me … so I bought it. I don’t think I’ll buy another deck for a while, I would feel like I’m cheating. Haha

Could I make a video request? Could you make a video about decks that have a lot to unpack / discover in the images of each card? I don't seem to be able to connect with decks that have simple images (such as one figure or flower, etc.), and I'd like to find deck options that offer a lot for intuition. Thank you for this channel, I love your videos!

The 1st Tarot Deck I bought my Mrs who lives o'seas is the Easy Tarot....such a simple yet mega elegant deck. Two others I love and feel are great for beginners are....Witches Tarot (not The Witches Tarot), and Chysalis Tarot. Other decks I absolutely adore are Enchanted Forest, The Ark deck (combo pack of Tarot and Oracle deck....149 cards.....darn heavy box with really thick yet adorable book), as well as the trio deck (altho have to buy separately)....Milenium Thoth, Thelema and Arcanum decks. For Oracle decks, the 2 x Moonology decks are fantastic :-) The most beautiful deck ever that I have seen and will be getting 2 decks, one for myself and one for my wife is the Slavic Legends Tarot....the imagery is beyond words yet with it comes a very high price tag........

My very first deck was a rw deck giving to me years ago didn't get into it then and gave it away. I was actually afraid of the tarot for a long time and just used Oracle at first and I bought myself the charka tarot one day when I was learning to overcome my fears of what other people thought of me (mostly my family) I didn't connect with that deck and gave it away later after buying others. The crystal vision tarot was one I thought helped me to start to understand. I think it is a decent starter deck. The everyday witch was the first deck that I really connected with. My copy got ruined and I miss it so I have to replace it. The good tarot is probably the best deck as for learning though I think. The images as just so easy to read and it brings that light hearted side to people who might be afraid of learning like I was once and some people don't like the unclothed people that the rw tends to have and everyone has all their clothes on like you would see walking down the street. I find animal decks are hard to learn on so I wouldn't have included that one but it's good for key words. The simplicity tarot is a great learning deck too.

@@truthbetold4178 There’s a lot of A. E. Waite’s antisemitism that made it into the imagery of the RWS deck. Like the devil card - the devil is holding his right hand in the Jewish priestly salute. The divine name is written on the wheel of fortune, etc. Several things. I’m not telling anybody not to buy it. Just explaining why I won’t. The same is true of Crowley’s Thoth. Super antisemitic and I’m a Jew; I’m not interested.
