  • This video teaches you how to knit a square using a Garter stitch. It is the first video of a series. Each week we will focus on a different technique to knit squares. Eventually, all the squares will be connected to create a beautiful, cozy, handmade patchwork blanket. Please join me on this journey! One square will take about 20 minutes to make. It's very meditative, fun, and easy. Come join the conversation! Please also go follow my Instagram: @craftwithjarred

    Our school is also doing the ‘knit a square’ program and that’s why I’m learning to knit. It’s great that the program is still running!

    I don't knit or crochet however I do like to loom knit. Just found this channel randomly and watched the slipknot (exactly the same way I make them!) so I subscribed!

    Thank you so much for this video. You are sharp, clean and to the point. I had forgotten how to get started using needles because I got heavy into doing loom knitting. So I wanted to start making a patch quilt again And you helped me remember (I have dementia.) So now I can do both forms of knitting again THANK YOU!

      @@craftwithjarred2687 Here is the gentleman I learned from here on You Tube. I was up to my ears in 3 different knitting blankets and after watching his video I told him I had wished I had seen his video before making the 3 I was rotating for my grandchildren. He told me to put down those needles and get a loom so I did. I have not looked back since! (I wound up getting the full set of round looms) I also got the largest rectangle to be able to make into a queen size blanket for my daughter's bed. I rotate looms so I am doing different colors so I don't get bored and set them aside. You may find the same thing. Here is Chad's video th-cam.com/video/vQeGOYLRlRM/w-d-xo.html

    Nicely presented. Beginner. I learned crochet in October and crotched a lap blanket for sister for christmas, i heard knotting uses less yarn, so want yo knit a full size afghan for friend for B-day.
    Jared presents this instruction beautifully, win such precise manner. Was a pleasure watching.

    If you’re using different wool for the different squares are you going to be needing to change your needle size depending on what the packaging asks for??

    • @craftwithjarred2687
      @craftwithjarred2687  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, you need to look on the sleeve for the yarn and see what size needle is needed, it should show it with the instructions for washing and the size for the crochet hook. Also remember if you use a bigger yarn size your square will be bigger than the one in the tutorial. Hope I could help 😁.

    I want to create a patchwork blanket. I want to incorporate all the bits of my practice disaster that I kept. They are various shapes and sizes and colours. Have you any idea how to put them together or to sew up. I’m still not an expert now and tend to stick with knit stitch mostly. I do have 7 squares that are neat edges, so could they act as the border and fill the middle with the scraps (as I call them now). I realise it’s difficult as you can’t see them. Still been a newby I haven’t a clue how to join them. Or could I stitch them to the blanket I am using as guide.
    Love your channel. Take care Keep Safe.

    • @craftwithjarred2687
      @craftwithjarred2687  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could crochet a neutral colour around the edges to make them the same size. Single or double crochet should work.

    What is size of square how many stitches you cast

    • @craftwithjarred2687
      @craftwithjarred2687  ปีที่แล้ว

      So it all depends on how big you want your square to be and how chunky your wool is.

  • @chasesinclair9847

    • @craftwithjarred2687

      If you can pause the video every line counts as two.
      32ish my eyes are not as good as they use to be. You can do as he says how to check it is a square, but I have been caught out a few times with that method.
