My husband and I came to the big island in September for two weeks for ten years. The first time I stepped off the plane I fell in love with the place. I wanted to move here and I hated to leave each time I had to go back to SF and my job. The weather was always wonderful, the water was always just the right temperature and mostly the people were amazing. They were warm and welcoming, helpful and smiling. SF was becoming more cold and unfriendly. Eleven years ago we both retired and moved here and bought a house. I tell everyone I live in Paradise.
There is no other place I want to be. This is the best place on earth, a little island in the middle of a great big ocean far enough away from the mainland.

We lived in Keaau for 16 years and absolutely loved it there. Moved to Arizona and for medical reasons and can’t stand the heat June to September.

The first time I went to Hawaii, I had just left 102 degrees and 95% humidity in Indiana. It was sooooo much more comfortable in Hawaii.

May 3rd- 13th. It was comfortably hot, 2nd degree sunburn, ( duly noted on sunscreen), did not use A/C at our resort, lychee was delicious at the Kona market as were the Shaka Tacoz! You guys are great and Mahola for another great video!

South Kohala (Mauna Lani) is significantly less humid than Kona - averaging 58% RH so far in June. It's comfortable here year round.

I'm hoping to get more information on the 4th of July. I went to your website but I don't see the info on there. I'm not planning on buying a home in Hawaii, just visiting.

I think it's kinda hard to generalize the conditions on the big island, considering the wide variety of climatic zones encompassed on the big island.
I lived (past tense) in Waikola Village all the way down to Keauhou.
Besides the elevation, Waikola was much more comfortable due to the lesser humidity and stronger more consistent trade winds.
My first "winter" on the big island we lives at Kona Coffee Villas, and at somewhere around 2000 ft elevation the wind coming off the volcanoe was absolutely frigid (50 degrees) 😅.
So if it's too hot in Kona, take a trip up to Kameula for the day.

Thanks @Danerskine9862 The title is actually WEST Hawaii..which is, you are right, more indicative of a certain region more than the entire island. And Waikoloa Village can definitely be cooler in the summer due to its elevation and wind!

Question: when does the wind gusts the most resulting in Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS)? TIA

Well,,as. you know we had that passing hurricane on August 8th last year..but we don;t have public safety public shut offs on this island.

@@365Hawaii Good to know! Hopefully, the HECO PSPS plan will not be implemented. Moving from SoCal in the near future, so I hope I don't bring any bad mana'o of roaming blackouts/brownouts with me, lol! Mahalo for your response.🤙🏽
