Here's a tip I've implemented: for every new item I bring into my home, I make sure to let go of something else. It’s a simple one-in, one-out rule that keeps things balanced and prevents accumulation. This approach not only keeps my living space tidy but also makes me think twice before buying something new. It’s a practical step towards a more mindful and minimalist lifestyle, ensuring that everything I own adds real value to my life. Great video my friend!
My mother was and still is a really bad hoarder, she spends every dime she has on random stuff, growing up being surrounded by so much stuff I now have an addiction to getting rid of stuff, I don't have any holiday decorations, I don't have any boxes in my house, I have no need for amazon or ebay because I just don't buy stuff... its peaceful having a clean house
One of your most compelling videos to date. So much so, I'm devoting my weekend to donating as much of my extra stuff I can. Now I chuckle every time I say "just in case."
I know I am a habitual shopper so I make it a point to just stop going to stores alone. Every Home Depot trip or Target trip I always bring a kid or my spouse. My kids get bored and my wife says, “Do we need that?” Really helps keep me in check.
I'm proud to say that not one of these applies to me. Being a minimalist feels so good. Good luck to anyone on their journal to a more minimal life. You won't regret it.
"Do you own stuff, or does your stuff own you?" Easy to see what I didn't need/even want to have when I heard that! Also, I think it's good to personalize your own "minimalism", more like essentialism. I'll buy a lot of books or shoes (I use different athletic shoes, hunting boots, etc.), but I don't buy a bunch of kitchen stuff. So it can definitely be up to you!
That's what I'd done during the 2020 pandemic. I'd ordered so many things on Amazon for just in case and bc it was on sale. I'm so regret it after I had found financial independence videos. I wish I had found investment videos before the big dips. Missed out the big opportunity to buy index funds when it was on big discounts. 😢
Hi Tae, great video and delivery! You always offer great content ! Seniors have a tendency to be hoarders. They also end up having a lot of falls, broken hips, femurs etc. They trip over the items in their home. A sign of a hoarder is someone who will never let you come into their home. I work with seniors and 60%+ are horders.
YES, I have too much stuff. We were hired to empty someone's house that passed away, when we saw all the crap this old person kept, it opened my eyes and I started on the path of minimalism. I am started to be much happier, but my wife HATED IT, she likes clutter because she grew up very poor and clutter makes her feel rich.
AAAnd when you confront those people for their bad money habit, their most basic reply is "it's my money, I can do whatever I want" and not address the issue by twisting the focus elsewhere
I once rented a storage unit between two teaching jobs in the 1990's. It may have added up to at least a $1,000 for 1 year. I also found a bag of socks and two umbrellas that I may have purchased at least 6-12 months ago when cleaning my apartment recently. Some of my 500 children's books are in multiple bins. I am a public school librarian. One of my schools has at least two rows of empty shelves and could use newer books. A local used bookstore will also look at books by the box or bin to buy.
Here’s an interesting game to play with a friend/neighbor/family member: have them come over to your place, and point to ANY random drawer, storage container/area, or closet/cupboard-if you can’t specifically state what’s being kept in there-you have too much! Now switch, and do the same at their house. This exercise will really drill down on whether or not you know what you have and where it is.
ooh this video is calling me out! 😅I am well aware though, when teh weather's nice I grab all kinds of stuff and throw it in my front yard with a FREE sign, it all dissapears every time :)
I use my floor as storage space and everything I own fitts in 2 travelbags. I guess it is easy to just throw stuff on the floor from time to time when you dont have drawers to put it on or in.
I've been looking all over the internet for someone to explain how a teacher/state employee with a pension between 40-65% of their take home pay at retirement should invest for maximum medium to long term wealth (retirement and brokerage). At 35, considering I have the pension what, how does that change my calculations for investing/retirement?
As I've gotten older and the more money I've accumulated the less stuff I've actually desired! I am so glad money and stocks are digital, so it won't clutter my house....
I love this guy's videos. Thank you Tae for all of the great work you do. This is my favorite TH-cam channel. I appreciate all the wisdom that is good to share with my family and friends.Thank you.
22. The Amazon, UPS drivers knows you by name. 23. You have a backyard shed that's already full and you want to build another one. 23b. You have started to store your mower, pressure washer, generator outside the shed since your shed is getting full. Of course, you have weather covers for them. 24. You store things in your car trunk because you don't have space in your home 25. Everytime someone is giving away free stuff, you rush there, because who doesn't love free stuff? Free TVs? put them in every bedroom. Free shelves? more room for even more stuff. Free old PCs? Great for every family member with Linux on it. Free chairs? great for guests.
I will be forever grateful to you, your channel changed my whole life and I will continue to preach on your behalf for the whole world to hear you saved me from huge financial debt . thank you ❤.
A career which gives you a little bit of time and work-life balance costs you financial independence because it'll be low paying. Tough choices to make. Keep in mind, investing provides a jumpstart to financial freedom. At 34, I already have a $6m portfolio.
My take on this is that just because something is offered doesn't mean you have to accept the free item, and if you do take something you don't have to keep it any longer than YOU want to keep it. Slow the inflow of things entering your home and you'll have a cleaner, calmer place to live.

Also my rule! Works like a charm.

Or as the minimalists would say; the one in ten out rule!
I have found that living in a place that is cluttered up with stuff everywhere is emotionally draining. I get very unhappy.
Tae- Your hair needs it own you tube channel,. Simply amazing!

#22 - When you order so much from Amazon that when they bring a next day delivery you have no idea what's in the box.

I think older people just can’t face dealing with the accumulation. Mentally and physically.m
# 18b: You rent a storage unit AND you have a lot of credit card debt. Or, you’re borrowing money to buy things you have no room for. Great video!

Definitely great advice. Thought I was good at throwing things out but your suggestions are solid and detailed. Love how you break it down ❤
I just wish the ad was in the end . Was about to share this video to my old mom but she may not follow
You are so right on. Thank you. Love your videos ❤

The seriousness of your demeanor while giving the list, particularly the big kids toe not fitting in the baby socks, lol.
My list stopped too soon.
"...until they're as tall as the Burj Khalifa."
What a cultured reference. Love it.
Everything should have a dedicated "place" - when you run out of "places" then you need to get rid of stuff

Excellent content
Mr Tae's hair is starting to have a life of its own.
I think you must get the more value out of your stock footage subscriptions than any other youtubers in existence
Why does it matter to ya? lol

You are killing me Tae!

For the first time in my life at 39 I am on board with less space!
I appreciate your videos! You always go straight to the point and we have a lot in common! #nononsense #keepitreal

Great info 👍 👌 👏
I have so much stuff, I'm scared the crew from "hoarders" will stop by.
Nice way to deflect your poor minset habit with a joke 🙄

I definitely fall under the just in case. I'm pretty sure I got it from my parents
This video stings a little...but I needed to watch it😂
I will be forever grateful to you, your channel changed my whole life and I will continue to preach on your behalf for the whole world to hear you saved me from huge financial debt . thank you ❤.
Is it the woman this TH-cam Channel told us to join during the pandemic?
Yes , me and my husband joined her. and things has changed since then financially .
how can I get in touch with her ?
Started hoarding during the pandemic… I got scared I won’t have enough supplies at home.😂
I have a simple rule : i dont buy something unless it breaks . Done . Easy pease .

What about when we get a lot of things for free - for eg due to where we work or something that people gave us for free
My take on this is that just because something is offered doesn't mean you have to accept the free item, and if you do take something you don't have to keep it any longer than YOU want to keep it. Slow the inflow of things entering your home and you'll have a cleaner, calmer place to live.
Was this video made specifically for me?
I have a friend that matches 20 things on your list. But like an alcoholic she is in denial and would never watch the video.
It’s her bloody business, hiw she lives her life. Focus on YOUR poor habits instead, you’ve got plenty!
Guilty of all those things… need to declutter asap😂
Also, if you have packages arriving regularly from Amazon.
We have more storage businesses in America than we have schools.
Wow! I didn't know that 😳!
❤❤❤
The ads are terrible
Pay to not have them, there’s an option on YT now. And stop complaining, nobody cares.
Guilty 😢
👍 💪
👌
I guess this is also a list of 21 things INFLATION can cure you of over time.
There is NO SUCH THING as "too much" stuff. Everything has value, especially when acquired at the right price.
Your makeup is extremely distracting
Ya like it, don’t ya! lol So much so, that you bothered WRITING about it 🙄
You are talking about me!!!
