Keep in mind most of these girls grew up listening to R&B and hip hop. Cocona was rapping since 3 years old, doing covers of Logic and Eminem at 13. Maya went to international school, where most of the kids are usually American from big cities. Chisa listened to American pop like Madonna when she was younger.
Also the world is now full of rappers from all countries and cultures. The hip hop culture has been successfully marketed to the point that it now exists everywhere. I love these girls. Let the haters hate.
The main reason XG doesn’t have any issues is that they ALWAYS pay homage to where everything started. They have said how much they love R&B and Hip-Hop, as well as, give credit where credit is due.

they are an experience. They are touring in the US later this year. Thier stage presence is insane. Once you go down the XG rabbit hole they will have you in a chokehold. You mentioned ATL, their CEO did have one of thier songs produced in ATL as profiled in their documentary. They are multiple groups in one. They are R&B and hip hop to the core and they are influenced by the likes of Aaliyah, Destinys Child, Lauryn Hill, JayZ, Keisha Cole, sense a pattern? You would think they are a bunch of American girls until they speak their native language and then it hits you. They are the it group for 2024 hands down.

This is a 7-member(ages 18-22) Japanese global girl group ( 4 rappers and 3 vocalists but they all can do it all ). They operate in both Korea and Japan but they are not a K-pop group, they almost always sing in English. They can speak Japanese, Korean and English and English is their 3rd language. They mostly do Rap and R&B stuff but they are really versatile, you will see all kinds of songs from them.
These girls have bars actually. COWBOY REACTS has a 35-minute breakdown video on this song and has another 1-hour video of him breaking down GALZ XYPHER which is the rap song XG blew up :D Other reactors have breakdowns of their other rap songs, especially the TAPE's, in which they use the beats of "known" songs and sing their own lyrics. They pay homage to OG's and show respect all the time. They have tons of references etc. They are basically a shape-shifting alien wolf pack from another galaxy and they have a lore. The eye thing was always prominent in XG music videos. You can see them keep changing and evolving etc. You'll see the throughline if you watch all their music videos.
"Shooting Star" tells the story of them wanting to shoot off into the Stars to achieve their dreams
"Left Right" shows them travelling across the galaxies.
"HESONOO&X-GENE" is them awakening from hibernation before reaching Earth.
"GRL GVNG" is XG's arrival on Earth.
"TGIF" is their evolution commencing on the planet.
"New Dance" is them exploring their new environments ETC. ETC.
WOKE UP is kinda like them taking over or getting ready to take over. Their different songs/MV's represent different ERA's of their arrival to Earth ( not Earth per se but planets in general I assume ) and taking over. You can check the zoomed-in eye shots in these MV's and see the differences. They used those eye thingies in other songs like Shooting Star as well. I am not 100% sure what eye represents but my interpretation is that it shows their evolution or it basically shows they are aliens in a cool and visually pleasing way. I am sure they have a more detailed lore but we as the fans don't know much details yet.
They also have tons of references and easter eggs in the videos. For example, in the first Maya verse, it is like a court scene and Maya says "I'm the judge and jury" and she is addressing the "haters". There are people around in wolf-heads who are the witnesses ( which are the fans - their fandom name is Alphaz, WE are the witnesses ) and a guy is being judged with the upper half of his head missing. He represents the haters so they are no-brain, only talk. Also, you can see there is a building at the start and at the end and, a guy approaches it. He is the CEO of XG's label. Basically, he is XG's boss, but in the video, he is their commander. So while Maya taking the haters to the court, the other girls are coming in from the multiverse to attack the haters' """"head-quarters"""". You can see in the end it is in the shape of a head. It also blows up, so it means they take down the haters but it can also mean, after you finish watching the video, your minds are blown.
EXTRA : Cocona shaving her head can be interpreted in multiple ways. Saying F U to the beauty standards of the industry? Also, XG got some shade because of their outfits, hair styles, lyrics etc. ( Coco had braids for a lil while, so basically saying here, I cut all off, what now ? ) saying that they appropriate black culture ( they actually don't, they love the culture and they pay homage all the time. They don't pretend, they grew up with those songs, and their inspirations are the biggest old-school R&B, hip-hop, and rap artists mostly from the USA, they sing their songs, they use their beats, they shoutout and everything ) also, it appears she already did that when she was younger and wanted to do it again. The label didn't want her to until now since it fits the concept and MV so she did it in this MV. That can mean a lot of things but it's a bold move either way and it is fun, it is swaggy and it suits her personality. She is one of the swaggiest , coolest people I have ever seen. She is so badass.

Charlie Pride shouldn't have song cowboy songs jimi Hendrix shouldn't have made Purple Haze. .Prince should have only worn an Afro. Michael Jackson should never have had plastic surgery. If Cocona's early pigtails and braids were appropriation, Rihanna shouldn't have worn Asian clothes, there shouldn't be names like Kobe and China in the black community, and don't straighten or relax your hair, just wear it naturally, and don't read anime or eat sushi! Much appreciation for you shouting out “Without You.” :P Holiday tracks are often easily ignored when we’re outside of the holiday season. But man…that is one of their most 90s/early 00s tracks and I love it dearly.
You gonna swoon for these girls when you hear them sing. "Losing You " by Flo cover song elevates their vocal flex. These girls represent Hip Hop and R&B it has nothing to do with appropriation. Look deep at the hook "Woke up lookin like this, so don't get under my skin" bar hits hard and more than just a hook. They wake up every day feeling Hip Hop, looking Japanese. Hip Hop doesn't exist in the material world even though it can manifest itself in this world. Haters overlooks this fact and, in most cases, don't understand it for what it is.

XG can sing and dance as well as they rap. Beside Japanese artists, XG was also inspired by the OG western R&B and Hip-Hop artists. During an interview, they said that some of their favorite artists are Beyoncé, Rihanna, TLC, etc.
They also pay homage to the OG western artists in their main songs and their extra contents. They often do cover songs of other artists in their XG Vox series. In Vox #6, they cover Losing You by Flo. They even did the video in old school R&B style. In their XG Tape, their mixtapes, they make a lot references to OG like Jay-Z and J-Cole. In their XG Move, they do many different of dance including Hip-Hop.
In their XG XTRA XTRA Documentary, you can actually see their younger version (around 12 to 15 years old) started training by Simon Jakops (that guy walking at the beginning of Woke Up music video). You can actually see them practice until they physically can’t. In that same documentary, they said it themselves they want to be successful artists like the people they are inspired by no matter what it takes.
Honestly, as Hip-Hop current generation’s future is not bright as I would like it to be. I once heard the news about Sexy Red performing her non-pg songs at a children school. Who are the d*mb*ass think that is a good idea for children!? Then, I remember one of XG’s goal is to break stereotypes including sexualization of women.

I think Maya is the only one can speak English fluently. The rest of the member obviously been improving a lot but English is actually their 3rd language, so you can tell the amount of effort they put into practice when getting ready for this song.

XG, phenomenal group of 7 young ladies, founded by Simon, a former 2nd gen K-Pop idol with the Dalmations. These ladies trained and competed for 5 years before their debut in March 2022 with Tippy Toes. Watch Mascara, Shooting Stars, Left Right, Winter Without You. They all have MV. He is half Korean, half Japanese, Born in Seattle. He goes by Simon Sakai as his Japan name, and Simon Junho Park for Korean. And for producing, he goes by JAKOPS which stands for JApanese KOrean Producer Simon. Really, his vision for creating XG is largely based on his own personal experience in life, and the music industry. He wants to create a group that bridges the divide between Korea and Japan, and take to the world. That is why XGALX is a sub label of Japanese music giant AVEX, trained the first few years at AVEX dance academy, but also trained in Seoul, and are now based in Korea. So XG are fluent inJapanese, have become fluent in Korean, but sing all their published songs in English only.

English speaking: BTS "RM" =fluent (says he learned it watching Friends ion TV, but he has a very high IQ - others - learn 1 liners for public speaking) Blackpink : Rose grew up in Australia. Fluent; Jennie lived 5 years in New Zealand 10-14, fluent; Lisa grew up in Thailand around English, now almost fluent). XG: Maya went to an International School in Japan that was American= fluent. Other 6 members, fluent in Japanese. They all learned Korean to fluency, and they all learning English but work hard on lyric pronunciation, so sound pretty fluent while performing.

Thanks for your reaction. Suggest you put on subtitles although they rap and sing in English in most of their group mv’s, but in their Tapes (rap) they rap in English, Korean and Japanese. Their native language is Japanese so have to give them even more credit as English is their third language although Maya went to International School in Japan and is the most fluent English speaker. Also please don’t compare them to BTS or Blackpink or other groups although I’m sure you meant it as a compliment. I’m an Army (BTS) and Blink (Blackpink) but XG is in their own lane and are redefining music at their own pace. Glad you discovered them.

Maya is fluent in English and the rest are in varying stages of becoming fluent. I would say Chisa is probably the next one who has a very good grasp of the English language. They all speak Japanese and Korean.
