It's a way of keeping the race ambiguous to appeal to a wider reader base. If the male MC has blond or red hair, he's white. "Dark hair" though, that's literally every race. Pair that with "bronzed skin" and it could be someone who spent a lot of time in the sun, or someone with a naturally dark skin tone.
@jinpark2068 it's fantasy, literally anyone could have any color hair and also be described with different tones of skin. Especially when you combine it with fan art and the dark haired male is always white anyway. Authors just need to mix it up more.
I get annoyed that every love interest seems to have dark hair, is extremely tall, and has huge muscles. I would love to see more diversity as well in male love interests! As for books I've read this year with male love interests that don't have dark brown or black hair: Crowns of Nyaxia Series by Carissa Broadbent - Raihn is described as having mostly red hair My Vampire Plus One - Reginald is blonde Hopefully there are more I read that just aren't coming to mind at the moment.

@Virginia14919 glad I'm not alone. Nice I'll have to look into Vampire plus one.
girl this is why i why choose. everyone has different hair in the same book.
@@happily_ever_april April this kind of reasoning is not enough for me to read why choose lol
@BecxReadz Hey, this is sound logic. Why choose is the thing, ya know 😂

Yes!.....bald man. We need a Mr. Clean hair character, any race.
My husband has shaved bald head, it's hot, just sayin'
@@books4everafter I've been a baldy many times.....it is hot. Give us more baldies

@happily_ever_april that I read this year??? Yeah every other book than mentioned had a brown/black/dark haired male character
