I love her style of speaking - sharp, quick, and clear.

She seems to have that fast new Yorker accent. If my attention isn't sharp, I can't keep up with what she is saying. As a California valley boy I'm not used to hearing fast new York accents. I like them though on a woman, it sounds great

I like the fact that Helen makes the biological perspective of love more palatable to the masses. The general population has an extremely hard time accepting that their bodies do in fact play a significant role in feelings. I can think of so many clinical things to say, however; the way Mrs. Fisher went about it was exactly what needed to be done.

I enjoy these interviews but would appreciate it if the questions were spoken. Lots of videos on TH-cam are not fully accessible to those of us who are vision-impaired.

Dr. Fisher is brilliant. I recommend her books and videos to anyone going through a divorce or wondering why their relationship is stale, and for that matter anyone contemplating being in a relationship. I'm currently reading "Anatomy of Love" and she is spot on describing the biological reasons for the predictable cycle of psychological pain and addiction after a break up. I think it's vitally important that she offers new possibilities other than the usual offered to partners struggling with infidelity: divorce is only one possibility, but not the only possibility. The anthropological background is fascinating, and offers so much more than being brainwashed by man-made ideas of sin and repentance that have no logical basis.

Helen Fisher is a brilliant scientist and has done what a scientist does; define an emotion scientifically.
A spiritual/ religious person would define the same emotion in a spiritual/ religious way.
I think one may mix the definitions as one would mix primary colors in order to find the hue that best defines their own personal need/taste.
Life has infinite mystery therefor so does our emotions and LOVE is the most mysterious emotion of all of them.
The question is Sex but the answer is Love!❤️

I religious guy told me today that there are some things that science can't explain. His example was that he's a husband, and that science can't explain these more abstract things. He asked me why he loved his wife. I told him it was because there are certain systems in place. That after sex, oxytocin is released to make him feel like cuddling and stuff and want to stay with his wife long enough to raise children to a more viable age. He said that was the dumbest thing he'd ever heard. He hadn't had sex with her until they were married, which of course makes little difference, as you don't *need* to have sex to fall in love. I'm guessing he didn't believe in the fact of evolution.

what you said explains the why of the "love" part but not of the "his wife" part, in the sense of, why his wife and not someone else.

What does she say in regards to people falling in love online without meeting a person? What is implicated in the reality that people experience deep in-love feelings with others who often may not even be the person/gender/intentions they assumed?

17:00 - Wow, I'd love a woman to sit side by side with me, until I get used of talking to them... then I could look face-to-face. SO that is why I don't like face-to-face contact at a date. I denied to go to the Diner to meet someone, I wanted to go to the movies. Look at how that sits. Diner face-to-face, movies - side-by-side; therefore, that statement deems to be valid. :)

I'm not sure about what this woman has contributed to us... her scientific findings are like "love is an addiction", stuff we already know. and otherwise ripped of personality systems predicting compability while at the same time saying every type is compatible with every type. many claims she does about love are nothing but her biased "intuitive" opinion without any backup. strange that all her "scientific findings" perfectly align with her worldview, for example that the two genders' brains are so different but when it comes to race there's barely a difference, that technology hasn't changed love while she is promoting the dating site she has worked with...

Chemistry was created by Fisher to compete w/ eHarmony. However, she doesn't know or understand the subject of soulmate, which falls in the category of being spiritual. This what makes eHarmony really popular.

Looking at biochemistry means you reveal the magicians trick. If you don't know the biochemistry behind love then you're not delusional, you just define love in a more mythological way. But when you know the science, then believing in love becomes delusional if you don't adjust your mythological definition of it. What then becomes the new definition? The same as we define it in other animals; pair bonding and reproduction in different gradients. Also her closing argument is very interesting. Knowing the ingredients to cake doesnt make cake less delicious, though it makes me think; cake won't make you pay alimony or give you a lot of trouble when going through divorce. Cake you can just throw away, but in our deluded culture it seems that something so basal means that you have confessed to something for which you now have to pay the rest of your life for. I honestly believe that prostitution(unforced that is) is the most honest exchange between men and women. All other relationships are based on reproductive cues, mutual exploitation via deception, anything to get genes into the next generation. Does that mean that we are an unworthy pile of dung? Look at the san bush men pe. The pressures of nature kept tribal relations relatively stable and these people live natural lifes unafraid of death. Never forget when considering love, scientifically or mythologically, that it's just one piece of what we call existence. It shouldn't bum you out, but instead make you more wise. I experience tremendous love between me and my close friends. Friendship lacks a sexual agenda so it can be deeper and longer lasting. I love my dog till death. All these bonds are conditional as everything else is in this world. The falling away of traditions and the rise of depravity and perversion is screwing with the ability to bond I believe. When romantic love is the seed, but not the end goal of a relationship it can be a mature agreement between two people who start and maintain a family together. Alas there will always be the social dominance hierarchy and "love" can be wielded as a weapon. Look into taoism/zen buddhism. There are more ways to mend the ills of life then only the high of romance.

    ""I do believe that...""
Case closed... they don't really know, and besides all those "systems" must interact with one another, you must involve the three or you won't function in a relationshit, but THAT we already knew, I was expecting more than "I do believe..."

It does bother me that she works for dating websites that she applies her theories to. The chemistry thing is really anecdotal. There is still so much we don’t understand yet about how the brain works in conjunction with our bodies. It’s basically just her own theory she is probably gathering data about from the website while marketing it as scientific. Placebo effect is real and much the same as astrological signs and daily horoscopes, people will fit themselves in to categories due to confirmation bias. It seems like a skewed study. I know she’s done a ton of work prior too, but it seems like a nicely camouflaged way to draw more people to the websites she name drops instead of keeping it strictly scientific. I also am extremely suspicious of any evolutionary biology explanations being used to explain why we behave the way we do in our modern society. Again it’s a very slippery slope to confirmation bias and confusing how we should view nature vs nurture. The way we raise girls and boys and how much personality plays into behavior between the sexes is not an easy thing to unravel today, let alone casting backwards thousands of years to societies who may or may not have operated in ways we would recognize as stereotypical gender roles. Flirting with biological determinism is always a bad idea, but people like her seem to do so when they want to underscore and validate findings associated with marketing a service. Just my two cents.
