I really appreciate you and your dad working so well together. And these videos are the best, reminders of my early days back on the family farm. I'm 65 years old now, but my heart is out there with y'all helping you doing your chores, but my body is glad to be where it's warm.😂

Family ranch in Montana where we raised Herefords. During breeding season sometimes would see a bull come up behind a cow and stick his nose in the cows rearend. Then he would step back and arch his head way up and snort. I, as a young man thought he got some poo in his nose. Wasn't until one of the older hands told me, that bull is looking to heaven and saying, "God, if you made anything better than this, you kept it for yourself". When I got done laughing, I thanked the man for giving me the correct info.

I really enjoy these videos where Brian explains the when to feed and how much to feed and what the poops tell you. It's very interesting for us non farmers! I never thought about the fact that you have stalks and leaves and some cobs laying on the ground for them to work on and ranchers out west don't have that option. You have to save money where you can. Love the content!

Another big advantage of the cows being out in the field is that they naturally become their own dung spreaders and with reasonable weather don't need bedding, however the fact of not needing daily feed is a huge cost saving.

Thank you Brian for your continuing education moments regarding field grazing and poop inspection. You would make an excellent educator or visiting specialist at your local AG college. Combined with Cole’s commentary and videographer skills you make an excellent team. I found that all but one of my questions were asked and answered; were you grinding bales harvested this past fall and leaving prior years’ bales for last, a combination of new and old, or the oldest bales first?
Wishing you and your family a blessed week. Greetings from NE Ohio. After seeing you both shoveling poop from the trailer, I will never complain about shoveling clean white snow. 😉

I like your low cost feeding program for your replacement heifers, cows, fat beef market and your pure bred bulls. Power Chopped hay really boosts the feed value recovery in the cattles guts to meat. Your low cost corn fodder cow field cleanup running out, round bailed corn fodder and your self produced ground corn silage feed are production winners.
Love your innovative composting program in the corn fields, husks cobs n stalks to cow pies. All ready made fertilizer for the new crop. Never lived until ya've had a cow pie fight.
We were lucky in the 1950s, 60s and early 70s. Only 15 miles away from a large feed mill/ major N/S West Coast rail route and really cheap grain prices on rail grain from the Mid West. We hauled 10s thousands of tons with a 10 yr dump for fat cattle, breed cows, hogs and chickens. Augers and large grain metal silos.
This new Covid strain and all the hospitalization likely has killed the return of the Prime fed out beef market for a longer time. Cruise ship and high end resort industry is still flat on its back. Can't find workers who want to take the risk of working in Covid pus holes.
Shame, I still held onto my Norwegian Cruise Lines stocks, high end well financed and all new ships. They will come back.
Your set with your low productions costs to survive until the good times roll again. The rich will always eat their fat grain fed Prime beef. Nothing prettier on the plate. When I was in Vietnam, the generals had Prime flown in special delivery from the states, cost the taxpayers a fortune.
We dog grunts in the bush on a good day got rotten lean tough Australian "beef". Shit on a shingle made it tender.
Get yourself a 5 or 10 yd HD scraper with weight to cut those frozen cattle yards manure. Easy to make small area high piles.
Gotta watch those wild arse Angus heifers, they're like dating 2 wild Italian women at the same time.
Will run over and tromple ya, leave ya all bloody and bruises, just for some wild sex.
Cole looks really good, good color in the face, happy mood. That new wife of his, close by, is taking real good care of him.

I like Cookie Monster’s rendition of ‘One of These Things is Not Like the Other’. I think he called it ‘The Sorting Song’
When I die and they lay me to rest I’m gonna go to the place that’s the best. Great song. We used to sing it on the church bus 🚌 when we’d go on trips.
So, how long have you been sick? Hope you’re feeling better soon. You’ve got a hole in your slappy Cole. Mine looks like brand new.
Thanks for sending us some snow! We finally have some semblance of winter ❄️ 🥶 here in Oklahoma.
Lots of cow crap. My uncle Don used to say, “they can’t poop unless you feed ‘em. By the looks of yours they are well fed and taken care of. If I was a cow I’d wanna live on sonnefarms because y’all take such good care of yours! Thanks for sharing! Be well!

Thanks for another great video. It was interesting and enjoyable.
Brian, thanks for taking us to the field with you and explaining how you judge having the cows on the corn stocks. Found that most interesting how you judge if time to move them or not.
If I must say all and I mean all of your cattle look really nice. You and Cole and Jeff really take great care of your herd and it shows. It is no wonder other farmers come to you to purchase what they need.
My compliments to you for being excellent herdsmen.
Appreciate the way you keep your feed lots scraped up for the cattle. Good lot maintenance means better under hoof for the herd. I have seen some pretty bad ones over the years.
The song of the day is a good one. Good beat to it. Good choice Brian.
By the way here in central Iowa we got eleven inches of snow. Everything is shut down. Plows out working hard. Wow.
That hay grinding machine is a big one. Believe you said 600 hp. The netting on the hay; do you just grind that up with the hay???? Did not see it removed. Just wondering you know. Interesting setup.
About it for now. Will leave you alone. You all take care and be safe. Looking forward to the next video. You all take care and be safe. Thanks for everything.

I know it's second nature to him but to us who don't understand the ins and outs of ranching it is very interesting and Im sure educational to others in the business with less knowledge. These are the people who are feeding us and we should be thankful they work their butts of so we can eat

Aside from the good looking characters on Sonne Farms, a big reason I enjoy these vids is hearing the farming rationale. 60 years ago, farmers were just as smart, but they didn't have the knowledge to work with. Mainly, I think they relied on their intuition and generational learning. Those things are still very valuable but now they have science on animal health and genetics, market knowledge, and much more to inform their intuition. Good farmers are professionals like any other, and good farming is good business. I am proud of our farmers. Thanks guys.

Brian, Thank you for the videos. I see that you leave the net wrap on when you grind hay. In fact, I see this with a lot of the cattlemen on TH-cam. I was wondering if cattle feeders like yourself are concerned with the chemical residue from the plastic being absorbed by the cattle and thus passed into our feed chain? Oh, I'm not a "greenie" and actually a lifelong cattlewoman. I was just wondering about the general concensus.

You guys ever consider broadcast seeding clover, or something else into the corn fields you know you will be grazing. Keeps the ground covered, adds some nitrogen for the corn and plenty of green for those beautiful creatures to eat.

I chuckled when you said you can learn a lot from pop. My grandfather's adjusted feed by that.

It's funny to see the cattle following you around. I guess they figure you are getting ready to feed them.😎

Brian did a good intro! What was your cattle operation like before starting Bull sales in 1997?

Do you remove the plastic wrap before grinding the hay bales or is it something the cows can digest? Love the channel!

Most of those cattles wont be around long enough to make a difference. They’ll be hamburgers and steaks in no time

Perhaps the netting is a biodegradable product. Honestly, I wondered the same question as well.

Looks like they might have been leaving it on but in answer to questions , its neither biodegradable or digestible

Have about twenty feeders every winter, buy all my hay as I’m retired. My poop management is, if you slip on it hay is good, if you trip on it add a grain supplement.
