  • In this video, I attack 12 (+2 bonus) cybersecurity analyst questions you are likely to see in an entry-level analyst job interview. I provide the answers to the questions, but also provide context on why you are being asked this question and how the answer folds into the bigger picture of that job and this industry.

i have an entry-level infosec analyst interview at 10:30am (it’s 5:30am now. i’m listening to it whilst getting my workout in). i could have answered 90-ish% of the questions in the video, so i’m now much more confident and this smashed my imposter syndrome. in think i’m ready to go and kick some A in the interview. thank you!

      @jeebugorn 2 ปีที่แล้ว +43

      @@zallow8794 it definitely is.
to all: i did get the job. funny thing is, because it was actually intended to be an entry level job, they didnt ask me any technical questions, just why i picked the certs i had at the time and was like, OK, we will show you what we want you to do. they took a chance on me and (not to brag) but i've been blowing them away since like day 3 (when i first started working client monitoring...with supervision). now, im the best threat hunter on the defense team (the offense team does some defense stuff daily as well, but of the pure defense team, i'm the best). my director even defers to me on some threats that he gets stumped on (or when some of the newer guys get stumped and ask him, he defers to me to do hunt it down). and yet...still have imposter syndrome like i dont belong.
that last bit was not to brag, but an anecdote of what could happen if a company posts a real job posting, and doesnt require the moon for an entry-level job, and takes a chance on someone willing to learn.

Thanks for going over this. It helps to see how other people answer questions like this. Sometimes I feel in interviews I tend to ramble and overshare, but all of the interviewers I have talked with seem to enjoy watching someone really "nerd out" and get excited about answering the questions.

CSRF is basically making a url that when used by an attacker makes the victim take an unexpected action. For my college class we where given a vulnerability website designed to look like myspace. So we make urls that when loaded would add 'Samy' to your friend list. So if Alice clicked on the link it would added Samy to there friend group. Another step up for this attack is making the url be seen as an image on you profile. So to have your profile picture be the malicious url. So whenever someone views your profile they add you as their friend, becuase the url is automatically clicked from the servers code viewing the image. There are some catches like you needed to know the token and timestamp, but those where insecurely configured to where they where not changing.

As far as the battery of interviews, that sounds like a bit overkill with 6 phases of interviews. Sometimes its because folks schedules dont line up and you have to split it, but yikes. Check out the most recent vid i just published about 'SOC Life' with Brandon poole. He gives some questions you can ask in the interview to get a good idea of how they run their SOC.
Stay the course, execute consistently, be yourself. Enthusiasm, attitude, proactivity, personal drive are all things that I look for that are discovered in the interview, not the resume. Best wishes Justin!

Very good answers and explanation for those questions. I just had the third and last roud of interview this week for a SOC analyst role. From these questions, I was only asked "How do you keep yourself updated with the information security news?" on my interview with the manager. The last round was a technical interview and I was not asked any of these questions, it's difficult to predict what is coming. I watched some other videos like this one and none of the questions I studied were asked. I made notes of the ones I did not know how to answer:
    1. What is LSASS?
    2. What's "curl" command in Linux?
    3. How do you get to the domain controler after getting access to one of the computers in the network?
    4. Where would you save a bat file in linux to make sure it would run after the system is rebooted?
    5. Where is the event viewer saved in Windows?
Posting these questions here as it might be useful to someone. I don't feel confident about my last interview

Also, currently self-learning Linux and Python but I'm seeing that for INFOSEC a strong foundation in Networking will be a huge boost... Appreciate YOUR input and advice

Id go Net+ there. CCNA is certified on using Cisco gear, and requires you to understand foundational networking, where Net+ teaches and certifies you know foundational networking (which i believe is a required skill to work in Cyber). If you want to work in networking than def go CCNA though (assuming where you work is a "Cisco-shop".

    • @SimplyCyber

Todays biggest cybersecurity risk really depends on what dimension you are talking about. Different industry's have different biggest risks. A catch all would be ransomware right now, but after solarwinds hack, supply chain is becoming more mainstream. As boring as it sounds, end user awareness training really is one of the best controls an org can use to reduce risk.

Soon as I got out of school I landed a IT Analyst position at a help desk. Quickly learned that this isn’t what I want to do so I started looking into the cyber field since that’s what I originally wanted to do in school. Got my Sec+ cert and currently working on my CySA+ cert but I’m still trying to get into the cyber security field so I’ve been looking at Entry level SOC positions. Finally landed an interview and have been looking into common questions and realized that I know most of this. About 87% of it.
