    It’s seems unusual to see Ellie so chatty in interviews where the band are together, usually she’s more reserved/self conscious and Theo steps in to help her out. I think this speaks volumes to the skill of the interviewer.

      I remember that my favorite band was green day, until I met MCR later during 2019 I heard Moaning Lisa Smile in a motocross commercial and it wasn't until a year later that I decided on all their albums and it was love at first sight, Wolf Alice and MCR are my two favorite bands because I like all their songs, without exception.

      Muse are still my favourite band (became a fan in 2010) but Wolf Alice have quickly gone up there to compete with them. They do have a lot in common with Muse, for example their eclectic approach to rock music or their tightness and energy during gigs. Ellie once said that Absolution was one of her favourite albums so that's not such a surprise I guess. I'm really glad I discovered them and got to see them twice this year - once on the same day as Muse at the Tempelhof Sounds festival in Berlin and the second time two days ago in Hamburg where I even got to meet Ellie and Theo afterwards - they're both such sweethearts! Needless to say I'm in a heavy Wolf Alice phase right now, but as you pointed out their music is pretty much suitable to any mood or circumstance, another great quality that they share with Muse. May they keep on making music for a long long time!

      @@dreikaesehochkant wow it's great to hear your perspective on this, and that Ellie says absolution being a favourite album really makes a lot of sense to me. You must've had an absolute f*****g blast going to that gig to see them both. What an experience that can never be replicated.

    Wolf Alice, the warning, jinjer, the pretty reckless, halestorm etc, the Renaissance of rock.

    I never really notice new English rock bands these days (and by that I mean the last 15 years. THAT is how old I am).
    Somehow, they seem too earnest, too un-rock n roll. Let loose! Is this why Coldplay are so vilified - nice white middle class boys aren’t supposed to be rock stars, right? Look at Mick Jagger! Oh wait…
    I came across Wolf Alice’s ‘How Can I Make This OK?’ Spotify and really liked the production and Ellie’s clear vibrato-voice. Reminded me of Kate Bush though i don’t think they’re as sophisticated musically, not that this necessarily determines what makes a record great.
    But these guys are really good. I feel guilty at labelling everything these days ‘hipster rock’, because we’ve moved so far from the era when rock ruled the world.
    It’s a knee-jerk response that us Gen X’ers will often put down younger musicians just because we lived through the Clash and New Wave etc.
    Wolf Alice are great. They deserve every success, as do all dedicated young bands making their way in a tough and ever more jaded music industry which was tough enough pre-pandemic. I should know.
    They’re from my neck of the woods too apparently. As were Bombay Bicycle Club (remember them?)
    👍🏼🎹👍🏼

    • @manchalivin
      @manchalivin 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Like your comment in general, but couldn't disagree more about the too earnest, un-rock n roll part. People don't have to act like idiots or fit gimmicky nonsense to be rock stars or just music stars/great musicians. There's too much fluff surrounding so called classic rock stars. I don't think real music fans care much about the appearance of it, it's just about the music. Not saying you're saying it matters, just something that bugs me about how rock is often portrayed or viewed. That's something I love about Wolf Alice, how ordinary and humble they seem, and how great they seem to get along and enjoy themselves.

    • @PianoDanny
      @PianoDanny 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@manchalivin yes I hear you, but I do like some theatre and attitude in my rockstars: from Bowie to AC/DC to Kate Bush etc. Don’t even mind if they act like idiots - look at Iggy! These were outrageous characters, wanted to put on a rousing show and make a statement. That era is over.
      But you don’t need that to be a great band. Not so much the music, but the lineup of WA reminds me a bit of St Etienne. Love Sam Fender now for example, so there’s still good rock being produced. So hard to be original now.
      Wolf Alice don’t and shouldn’t need to try. They seem honest to themselves and make great music.

      @@manchalivin I think now it's more real and about the music as opposed to fabricated produced bands certainly not in Rick pop. I love the eighties and 90s music but looking at 80d bands it was all very produced, very image driven even the videos were expensive and OTT. Grunge sort thing out a bit and new bands are definitely producing records themselves and even self managing. I really think rock and pop music has returned to the 50s in many ways, where you were hard working touring and creative otherwise you disappeared.
