- Many people playing Tom Clancy's The Division have experienced either missing items or having their account locked out in an infinite loading screen.
Here I will explain how to recover your missing items if you have not already been locked out as well as a reason that may be the cause to these missing items. Hence why this is known now publicly as the "backpack glitch".

Massive and Ubisoft had a Developer from the Division step forward to say they are still working on a patch to be released ASAP for those locked or and missing items. This is a priority one issue. Also they mentioned (as a few of you in the comments have also noted) that this may not only be caused by the highend backpack that is crafted at the crafting station. Here's a quote from them to help potentially Proventil from being locked out so pay attention:
“In the meantime, we would like to advise you not to attach mods on items you are not using.”
They didn't say if this includes weapons and gear held in your stash as well but just to be safe I would recommend following these words of advice and completely stripping every weapon and gear of mods unless it is equipped on your character. For many of us that is a lot of inventory space lost but at least you can still play.

Thank you so much. You saved me a good nights sleep in knowing I was able to recover these items and knowing the overall grinding it took to obtain these items were not lost.
Lol thanks Joey! You gave me an idea to post this in the forums as I'm sure it could help more people there looking for help. I also explained this fix during the last "State of the Game " Twitch broadcast put on by massive and Ubisoft so hopefully that helped some people out as well.
I don't need any rewards because trust me, I'm just like you. We worked hard and played hard to get or gear and we don't want to lose all of that time and energy invested. Thanks for the video, it helped out alot! I had to repeat this twice since i had 56 missing items from my inventory and only 28 would show up each time.

Thanks Man, Subbed earned. Like everyone esle said you need to be rewarded in some way since you helped the people that were panicking like me haha! Got my high end AUG back so im glad but should we just trash the backpack then?
Lol Thanks for the support Gmo! I think you could hear my Gasp for air when I saw all my high ends missing so trust me I was there with you! I have yet to pick up a high end Aug but I hear it can be BEASTLY! Hopefully I can scoop one up before incursions launch on April 12th.
I wouldn't recommend deconstructing or u equipping your backpack at this point. Since my initial item recovery I have kept the backpack on and I haven't had any issues.
What you should know is that Massive and Ubisoft just mentioned within the last 24 hours that they recommend NOT equipping mods to ANY item that you are not using (I believe they mean equipped). While they also have not confirmed this could be something else that causes the glitch they seem to be fairly confident. With that being said you may want to strip all of your weapons and gear from holding any mods unless you have them equipped. Kind of a pain but it may save you from being locked out until they release a permanent fix.

To recover your items you will need to drop your inventory below 30 at least once. After that it becomes simply a precaution and is not required.
Personally my inventory has typically hovered between 23 and 35 items unless I'm pulling my extracted items out of the stash to deconstruct/keep.
Still hasn't been fixed... 2 years later, and still having this issue

for me it wasn't because of crafting a backpack, it just disappeared when I logged in

Ubisoft has said that they have made fixing this issue this number one priority so at least they're working on it. Hopefully it gets resolved ASAP.

I would try this but, my game wont even load.
They said you should be able to log back in with the 1.1 patch on April 12th.
thousands of players are even locked out of the game thanks to this shitty issue and ubi says it will be fixed at the new launch of the next expansion(the 12th) other then that they do literally nothing to warn other players or just do a roll back for players affected.When i played ghost recon phanthoms i already named them Ubishit customer service and it seems they have not changed at all the last year.They are still shit when it comes to help they're games community.They should warn everyone yet they are doing nothing.
This doesnt help me..i cant get past the connecting screen to get to my character...its been a week and a half now and still fkn locked out..if u can figure out how those of us whom are locked out can get back in that would be phenomenal..but for those of u lucky enough to get back on be greatful..$130 for a game i love and cant play..ffs!!!!
Sorry to hear that Dave. Unfortunately Massive and Ubisoft said they are very aware about the large amount of players that are stuck in the loading screen and can't sign in. They have stated this is a priority one fix and they are working to release a patch ASAP. Because there's no way to make changes to your character without logging into your character... It seems like you're locked out until they release the patch. I didn't hear about how they will compensate for this but I have to say they have better appreciation for us and quicker response times than many companies out there so hopefully they give you something to make up for the time lost when you're back up and running.
