2020 was the first game i ever DMed and ive since switched to Red and videos like this and your actual plays have helped me gain a bit more confidence in my improv. thanks again for making these and for building a community of like minded people to contribute and share
I really love seeing these videos! They're really helpful! I could also suggest something along The Sentence: Dungeon World's Fronts system Combine the two and you'll always know what the opposition is doing whenever the players interfere
If anyone's still here- I LOVE doing hacking with props. What do I mean by that: I Give the hacker player (Custom system and setting, here it's called a Decker) an Ipad with a puzzle game level and if they're under pressure, I give them Xd4 seconds (X being their hacking skill bonus) to solve the puzzle, with the time running out being a failure. Alternatively, give them a harder puzzle with no time limit. Players are going to instantly immerse themselves, saying things like "Almost got it, just a little more" or "Are you almost done? We're running out of time" "Look, this isn't that simple, okay?"
10:30 I'm with you. If my players want to all be nomads or have multiples of a class then I'm alright for it. I want them to pick the class they want to play and not be restricted by what other people have already picked. All of my players picked different classes naturally. At least one assumed the team couldn't have duplicate classes.
I was just recently playing a star wars d20 system to itch a cyberpunk scratch I've been feeling as close as I could as my friend group would allow me to get. Obviously, just not the same lmao. That being said I've also been having problems as a forever gm, but when I played last It didn't feel the same like it used to as a player. but when I watched this I had a sudden thought of like, "ya know, I think I prefer the Gm chair" because of all the creative freedom. like, if you want crazy stuff to happen in the middle of something mundane, I can do it. If the players expect nothing but battle or are murder hobos for a one shot, then fuck it and go over the top with everything like an old action movie, and save the story for later or adjust. It was nice to feel kind of inspired to continue as gm, especially because I'm writing a system now. I feel like before I just wanted to play my system, now I just want to expand the lore

I'm thinking this might be worth another Patreon withdrawal at the end of the month. I've never ran a campaign before, but I have a really cool story in mind for Red. I'm just kind of struggling on where to begin the construction process. Perhaps this will help.
I do impose restrictions in 2020/RED, simply to make the game more challenging and so nobody is too powerful out of character creation( I despise min/maxers), in RED I temporarily banned 4d6+ weapons/assault rifles and am a bit of a dick when it comes to weapon concealability, I do this to make it more difficult for the players, to make them realise they are chaff in a world full of bigger,harder and more powerful ppl than them, my group is a bunch of 5th ed D&D players who are ......shall we say "handled with kid gloves", I want to introduce them to the hardcore ttrpg experience that is cyberpunk, RED did good things for the cyberpunk game imho.
@@JonJonTheWise I do have another question about armour and players trying to layer armour despite it not being a thing anymore....bear with me, it might be difficult to explain....so the numbers mentioned are fictional and just an example.... so a PC has skinweave (let's just say it's sp 12 for this) and a kevlar vest (sp7) , now the book says the highest value is used, my question is, skin weave is subdermal armour of sorts so surely the first sp value used would be the kevlar vest as it's the first source of armour that can be encountered by a weapon, now if that is the case would the skinweave sp value only factor in once the kevlar is fully ablated or would it use the skinweaves sp value first and the kevlar only comes into play once the skinweaves sp becomes lower than the kevlars sp value, i hope this makes sense and can be understood

In my opinion your’re making a wishlist and don’t set goals with the exeption of d. [test all mechanics]. My point is that you wish that a, b and c. will occur but you have no criteria on how to meet those goals. A goal which motivates you and helps you measure progress might need something specific where the opposite can be true for differeciation. This is why d. is a great goal; you can have a checklist, someone could make it a point to make netrunning and bodega mechanics their sole focus. How would you know, if you have achieved your Goal of telling a cool story? (The opposite test helps here: Nobody would aim for an uncool story) When do you release yourself from responsibility if a certain player doesn’t have fun? How do you check for a connection to the story? Goals should provide two things: Clarity and Orientation. But in the end they have a) to work for you and b) thank you an a big shoutout for the service you provide with connecting the dots on the RED Edition of Cyberpunk. Cheers, M. Seems to me the sentence also works if the players are involved in removing the "Reasons" as much as being them.
