listen, chopping loops on the sonicware liven lofi-12 is not easy, nor it is intuitive... but, if you're willing to do some prep work on a DAW, he results are pretty spectacular.
would I recommend the LIVEN LOFI12 to producers whose main interest is to sample and chop? absolutely not. get a KO2, or an SP404MKII for that. but, for 280 euros, you get a truly polyphonic sampler which allows you to play chords.
drum mode is also super interesting. the sequencer is very well thought out, step recording is a breeze. you get up to 4 bars per pattern, parameter lock, the ability to switch samples mid-pattern using parameter lock, you get many FX, resampling etc etc.
but most importantly, the liven lofi12 just sounds super cozy and cool. all in all, when you follow the right procedure, you can get perfect chops out of this machine.

Everything has quirks, that's what makes them special. You just figured out the house rules to the lofi12. 🔥 as always 🎶🖖
thank you!
Amazing video! So helpful and the finished beat is 🔥
oh thank you!!
Originally I was gonna get this machine but got a volca sample instead I’m enjoying the volca and your videos on it a bunch ❤
glad to be of help!!!
Great video! I hope you make more videos about this nice little box 🙂 -- I only found out about this thing during the first KO2 hype...
another one coming in 30 minutes! th-cam.com/video/iKyRHWnSuK0/w-d-xo.html
It sounds like you are not adjusting the Downbeat Divider to the correct slice length. I can hear the snare start at the end of your first slice. Press func + adj and then adjust Value while playing the first slice. Adjust the Downbeat Divider until the slice ends just before the next beat (snare in your example). Then check the next few slices. This sets the same length for all slices equally. As long as your sample is quantized it will work no problem.
Cool sound⚡⚡
Vivo all'estro da circa 15 anni e ti seguo da un pò di tempo perchè sono anche io un grande estimatore del Volca Sample e del P.O.33. E ho scoperto solo ieri che sei italiano come me, incredibile!
è l'unica spiegazione che so darmi ahah
@@BIGUMAMI Compare? Ma non è che sei calabrese come me?? 😁
non sono calabrese, ma ti do un indizio... come voi, abbiamo le T molto pesanti 😂😂
Happy belated birthday, Can you please make a step by step jungle track on the lofi 12 similar to the pocket operator video you did. Love your music and videos!
it's ABSOLUTELY in my to-do list... keep your eyes peeled!
i thought you cracked the code with the chop function and got so excited lol. i really wish they would update the firmware to fix that.
Man this can't be serious. How can they introduce Chop and Drum modes and set slicing to fixed values?! What's the point of that? To use 4 preset loops and work only on that?
I know, it's a pain... but at least they have the excuse that there's only a small lcd as a visual aid. Elektron did the same on the Digitakt, an almost 10-year old, €900 machine... no customisable chopping points!
I gotta say though, once you prep a lot of breaks and import them all in a bank, it's quite nice to have them ready to go instead of having to reinvent the wheel every time. SOME limitations do breed creativity!
awesome vid and sounds bro
appreciate it!
Great workaround & results & I respect your viewpoint but prepping the samples on a DAW surely negates the primary point of having a hardware sampler. And what a pain to update via sysex. This is 2024 not 2004. IMO better to pay a little extra for a secondhand SP mk2 & get a huge upstep in capability & the 40 secs perma record facility is boss.
absolutely agree with everything you said.
but! I truly adore the sound, personality and ease of use of the liven's sequencer! so I thought it'd be a good idea to make my life easier with importing loops!
@@BIGUMAMI I feel a bit uncomfortable having written all that now lol. After all there’s exhausting menu sequences to remember on the SP so everything has limitations. 😎
@@timlloydsmithfineart1254 ahahaha don't feel uncomfortable lol man with hardware everything is a bloody chore! but we still love it, otherwise we'd all just be using a PC I guess
Came across your video and watched some others too.. dope stuff!! I've a fettish for samplers aswel and sure like the sound and capabilities of this one but the way of sampling is terrible indeed. But I guess it's a firmware thing. You know if #Sonicware is gonna fix this?
thank you! unfortunately no, I believe I read somewhere on their website or other official channel that they decided not to implement manual slicing because of the limitations of the lcd screen... so I don't see that happening anytime soon!
Does it have a mpc style not repeat function?
I haven't seen anything like it, but you can play with the probability knob!
Ohh Italy?!? The whole time I watched your videos I thought you were french.. haha sorry
ahaha no worries, there are worse insults than that! (actually I'll take that as a compliment if that means that I'm even 1/10th as talented as daft punk lol)
