This makes sense for people with loads of space on their PC. These render cache, optimized and proxy media files will be very huge in size if you use the best quality codec to make them
Started caching my timeline recently, supremely complex edit and timeline for a music video and it would typically take my m4 mac mini about 30 minutes or so to render it. The FX and layering was so complex however that it actually kept crashing at 44% (5 graded clips layered over one another with dissolves) and I thought surely caching the clips would've helped. Googled it, found your vid and ticked the option. Took 1 minute and 35 seconds, didn't even stutter. What a game changer!! Definitely going to continue using cache. Helps playback quality and I didn't think such render times were possible. Literally flabbergasted.
WOW, what a life saver. I rendered my first video in resolve last night and it took over an hour with a brand new MacBook Pro. I was ready to jump back to premiere. Tried it again this morning with this tip and it cut down the render to 3 minutes! Thanks for this video!
@@BoredCapturer it was a 1080p clip, a few deflicker nodes, absolutely horrendous. Fortunately after 2 days I found a solution somebody mentioned, rendering it in the fusion tab with a saver node took the 12 hours down to 4 minutes 🤣🤣 something seriously wrong with that render process
This video has saved me hours , you are amazing !! I download 3/4 hour videos on to my laptop and this cut them down to render in just 27 min ! wow huge change , thank you
Thanks. I brought in my movie from iMovie for colour grading and it's 1.5 hours long and shot at 1080p. How long do you think it will take to render? The clip or the media I was using as the main media is on an external hard drive.
Incredible. Thank you! I've been trying all day to get a basic 4K graded 1min clip to render and its taking way too long. Made me even getting anxious about doing a future 8K 25min project. This helps a lot.
This is not true, it took almost double the time to render when I clicked use render cache. I did a simple sample clip, I used NRAW clip made no changes exported it in mp4 4k @ 60fps and it took 38sec, when I clicked the box it took 68 seconds, almost double the time
I'm new to video editing, can someone please explain how to decide the best suitable codec that he is talking about? I am editng footage meant to be uploaded in 4k
OH EFFIN' HELL!!!! Thank you so much, man. Also a big thank you to Davinci for giving us this option. I wonder why it is not a default mode. Is there any benefit of not using rendered cache images? I really wonder why would people want to spend so much time for the software to render what's already been rendered.
I have a simple project at the moment where I filmed the sun setting for one hour. Its a single one hour file filmed in Pro Res and is a stoooopidly large 192Gb in size. The largest file I have ever created. What advice would you give when it comes tome to render for TH-cam, or even how to use proxies to speed up this daunting process when I hit render? Cheers.
friend thank you very much I had problems with my davinci rendering it turned off after going through an effect and now it goes like flash at its best thanks for the video.
No other videos on the topic of render times I’m afraid! Ultimately render times are linked to the computing power of your system. It’s worth pointing out that if you’re using the free version of Resolve then you’re probably not taking advantage of your systems full potential as hardware accelerated encoding (and decoding for that matter) is greatly limited in the free version.
Appreciate you mate. Have learned a ton about render cache over the last 24 hours after a heavily graded 10 minute clip took 3.5 hrs to render. I'm guessing that DNxHR HQX render cache images should be more than sufficient for DJI D-Log and Sony A1 S-LOG 3 4K 10.2.2 footage rendered to 4K high quality, would you agree?
Hey 😊 what would you recommend for rendering a 7min timeline with a few motion graphics and some film emulation grading. because I get like 3h rendertimes. side note I copy pasted my grade on all clips just at the end before hitting deliver

Would have been very helpful on its own, without having to reference yet other videos if you had gone into the codec equivalents. i.e. what codecs equate to 4k etc. A quick, simple categorization of them would have been great.
At the end of the video, you said to have the render cache format to be equal or greater to the final output. When the final output will be 4K UHD, what format of render cache do we need?
@@god-lightbulb Let me try : if you use a higher quality caching codec for render cache than your initial media, that's basically useless. However if you're using a lower quality codec than your original footage for your render cache, and deliver that, you will lose quality.
