    Alone; The lifestyle your living is similar to my lifestyle down here in (what I call) Superior-land. I have two modest homes, one in Northern Minnesota and one over in the U.P. of Michigan (approx 5 hours apart) I also work over in N.D. occasionally. The song "driving my life away" is practically a theme song! :) Though there's a grocery store in my little U.P. town, the prices are terrible, so I do a lot of planning ahead (3 Walmarts between houses) and gas (for example) is often 50 cents less in Mn. than the UP. We have the same grey in spring too. I'm originally from Northern California, so moving to a cold, Northern "weathered" place has a whole different perspective than say a 5th generation Finnish Yooper (what they call the locals). I'm curious if living in a place with so much winter leaves you feeling anxious and hurried, because winter feels like it's always looming and just around the corner. I does for me. A heated work space is such a game changer in Northern Climates in my opinion. Without it, the impossible task of cramming a years worth of work AND play into just a few short months is exhausting. I had a realization once that northern cultures, and their relationship to weather is what developed the modern world (big grand theory I'll flush out someday) :) Alone dream analysis: Well....the 1970's were awesome (I was just a kid, but I was there!) Those long dresses you wear are only topped by those boots. I was waiting to see you walk out on a stage and start singing "It's Gonna Take A lot of Love" :) Loving your videos. Your channel is going to grow fast...get ready :) --Back Waters Brenton

      Alone: I thought of something else for you today. Have you slept in your vehicle before? I call my 2005 Scion Xb "The Metal Tent" :) I always have a sleeping mat and at least a good sleeping bag (never know if I won't make it home in one day) Your rig looks like it could be made into a comfortable set up in back. I've slept in -30 in N.D. before.

      Hey Brenton! Eddie Rabbits song is very fitting sometimes 🤣 When I do my planning I will literally loop the city so I can get back out ASAP! I don’t relax until I hit open road even if I have a 5 hour drive in front of me! Even the grayish landscape is beautiful in its own way but I do like that I can see further to the sides of the highway in case an animal decides to cross😁 But Alaska has 4 seasons. Winter, June, July and August so either you’re living though winter or preparing for it! In a way, that’s what makes it fun! Of course there is a lot you can still do until deep winter sets in or starts fading. A warm spot to work is absolutely a game changer. I plan to have a few of them, even a heated greenhouse. I have worn those boots before but never in Alaska except for that skit! 🤣 Oh and this gal cannot sing! Even Kenai gives me the evil eye when I try. My channel took off quickly but once I did a video about the guns I have, I have noticed a decline. It’s steady still but I was booted out of the “fast lane” pretty quick! You know how that is 😁 But my theory is after you break that 1K monetization goal, its all about views, likes and comments. More subs does give you “street creds” and eventually a plaque from TH-cam. I enjoy helping other channels grow in any way I can and hopefully we all grow together from it. It’s also more fun that way! However if Wavey doesn’t make it as a sled dog in Greenland, she can always try Alaska! 🤣 Thank you Brenton!

      @@backwatersandbackroads I did sleep in my current vehicle driving up to Alaska. I used to have a Jeep LJ 4 Door in Colorado that was all decked out for camping. There is a picture of it in Episode 13. My current vehicle is a luxury hotel compared to the Jeep but I do have a full survival container in it. Kind of a must up here. I don’t think I have hit -30 in a car though. Amazing how warm you can be inside a car with the correct gear though. 😁

    U should get another dog, an Airedale! They r absolutely fearless when it comes to wild animals, especially bears. Growing up in Alaska on a homestead & set net site my father always had Airedales for bear protection. I knew people who homesteaded on the west side of Cook Inlet & they always had Great Pyrenees & they said they were excellent bear dogs. My father liked the airedales becuz he believed they were fearless & agree with him. I’ve had several types of terriers over the years & I don’t care what their size is……they r fearless. Also, be cautious of the coyotes, if they r hungry they will lure Kenai out to the woods & eat him. That happened to some friends when I was living near Kenny Lake. Gonna spend some time watching all your videos now that I found u. Good luck, Patti

    • @AloneinRemoteAlaska
      @AloneinRemoteAlaska  2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I keep Kenai on a tether when he is let outside. And I watch him through the door window. I have to get a fence built around my cabin so he can be just let outside. But I have heard that about coyotes and wolves. So I keep an eagle eye on him when he is outside. OMG Airedales are awesome dogs! But yeah no matter what size the terrier, they don't care how big you are, they will stand their ground! LOL! I had never thought about them for bear protection but it sure makes sense to me! I was thinking more like a Kangal :-) I do like German Shepherds too. Oh boy Kenai knows I am talking about other dogs! I gatta go! SHHHHH! :-)

    Hello Alone in Remote Alaska! I just found your channel today, and I'm now on episode 28. I want you to know how much I appreciate your video footage this time around. I have property in Chickaloon Alaska going on 23 years now, and raising my kiddos out there on the side of the mountain looking out at King Mountain. We frequently shopped in the Palmer/Wasilla area. We've also driven the road down to Valdez many times! Copper Center is beautiful! Blueberry Lake was a favorite for the kids and also the beautiful bridal veil falls/horsetail falls. My 3 daughters attended Alaska Bible College when it was located in Glenn Allen. Your video down Long Lake and Chickaloon Hill were awesome! Our property overlooks the Matanuska Glacier River. I am now in Texas caring for my elderly parents, but hope to get back to Chickaloon soon! Thanks again for your channel and bringing back loads of precious memories! God bless and I look forward to following your adventures!

      When I built the cabin and then lived in it when I was away from work I’d make a spreadsheet for shopping. When ever I need a few bolts I bought the box. It didn’t take as long as Alone to shop, but it was a trail ride and then using the vehicle at the trailhead. It was a half day minimum for anything if I could get it locally in the Talkeetna area.

    • @AloneinRemoteAlaska
      @AloneinRemoteAlaska  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Chris_at_Home Yeah that’s why you have to get used to either making very detailed lists or pushing a project off until you can make another run. I keep 2 extra sleeping bags in shrink wrap and extra blankets on the boat, and therefore if the weather or my fatigue level reaches a bad safety level I stay put in harbor until said conditions change. Plus you have a dog! They provide great warmth.. bring a litttle food and water and you have a great "warmer" for rest.

    Loved your 'dream montage'! Long drives seem to go hand in hand with living in the middle of nowhere! We try to bring everything we need from 'home' when we are heading to the cabin. It is cheaper if we can buy supplies on sale while we are south and haul them up in the truck. But, we do end up buying a few odds and ends in Watson Lake when we have to go out. We've made trips in to Whitehorse if there is a specific purpose (this past winter it was to pick up our husky that we rescued, the year before we bought a brand spanking new skidoo! First time we bought one new!) But it's a long monotonous drive in the winter. I find listening to books on cd helps, and now, I download books onto my phone and listen to those. Time flies when you are being entertained by who killed who!! Glad it was a safe, if boring, trip!

      I really don't mind the long drives. I used to drive for hours in Colorado! Just driving anywhere. It's a good feeling to resupply but a much better feeling when I hit open road again! A Ski-doo is worth the trip though! I am looking into the electric snow machines I watched on a video the other day. Push button start and quiet. I have a hard time with pull starts. I can do it but still a hard time. I may start downloading podcasts too but sometimes I enjoy the silence of driving. I can listen if my vehicle makes any weird noises. Or Kenai snoring! :-)

      @@AloneinRemoteAlaska We LOVE our new skidoo! After 20 years of dealing with a Tundra that always needed fixing, never being sure it would start or make the trip in or out to the cabin, we finally decided to bite the bullet and spend the money on a new one. And it has been so worth it! It's not a pull start, so I can actually start the beast. and it makes the trips in and out to the cabin faster, smoother and way more comfortable as it has seats for 2. I used to be perched on a dairy box stuffed with a pillow on the rack on the back, lol! Or when we were taking the kids out, in a skimmer behind the Tundra, which is a pretty rough ride. It was expensive, but we had the money saved and felt we were getting 'too old' to not have something more reliable. We feel slightly spoiled!

    The scenery was great as always!
    And I love that you don't sugar coat everything.... And that you show things like it is.
    And as far as the dreams...I would say that your subconscious is telling you that the trappings of the modern busy hustle and bustle was dragging you down and that you don't need to put on a false front for anyone. you can be you.. and your new life is more peaceful for you and your style..
    Lol... I loved that you showed people that no you don't record all night and just jump up to the camera... You have to get up, turn the camera on, lay back down and then do the whole waking up thing... And the dog is like nope you up so play... 😂....

    Those colours are driving me wild and I'm here for 15mins. My area is alpine and we have had about two weeks of sun this summer(ha!) and we are now into winter and there is endless grey skies and rain, rain and more rain. Lovely... I have suffered serious depression over the years due to both medical issues and other very real things but I didn't know about Vitamin D. Lack of light drives me crazy. Now I know my body cannot supply me what I need, even if I did have reasonable sunshine, I take quiet a bit of D and Vitamin K to go with it. Despite the world situation and a heavy work load, I feel very good, even as I am complaining about the gloomy weather. Dreams are funny, aren't they? That bath one suggests, to me, sensory deprivation. ? And haven't you just stepped from one world to another? ? God bless.

      Well you sure got that right! Alaska is its own world! And its possibly sensory deprivation but I feel my senses are heightened here. Always listening and looking around. The pure peace and quiet lets me hear everything. I also take Vitamin D since I cant get enough of that through diet or sunlight. And Vitamin C. Mostly in winter as I don’t have access to citrus all winter (YET) I will admit though, I absolutely love rainy cloudy days. They are so comforting to me. I may get more depressed with too much sunlight actually. Good thing I moved to Alaska huh?! :-)

    Good Morning Quick Draw!! lol!!! That's a great intro for the video, and your thoughts on "why" make perfect sense to me! Peace of mind leads to the ability to relax which leads to better quality sleep. Next Thought: Kenai... a woman who lets her dog sleep with her in her bed is the kind of woman I need in my life!!!! My "kids" spend a lot of their day on my bed while I'm working (home office is in my room), and 2 or 3 sleep with me every night. A king sized bed is barely big enough!! Hahahahaha... If I ever run across and connect with my dream woman (pun intended) I'm going to have to build a "double-wide" king sized bed... 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 And speaking of dreams, sometimes reality jumps in and diverts some dreams for a while. I'm still coming up in June and staying the summer working on my place (while also working full time). The dogs are staying down here for the summer. I just cannot in good conscience bring them up to Alaska before I have a safe and secure compound for them. To them a moose would be a really big deer and off they'd go after it. That would not end well... and their protectiveness, though admirable, would not be good with bears...until they've figured out those are not their new friends! So I'll be flying back in the fall. "IF" everything works close enough to "right" then I'll load them up and drive back to Alaska in the fall. Chances of "right" though are diminishing... money is getting tight, and 90+ year old parents are deteriorating. I'll be going back to see them the first week of May. Based on what I see there, and what the bottom line looks like, I'm going to have to make a decision whether to go back to AK in the wall, or winter over down south to deal with all of this other stuff, then go up next spring for the final move... the "DREAM" is alive and well... but life is throwing some challenges, just to make sure this is what I really want to do... AND IT IS!!! Highway Hypnosis... that's what it's called. We have the same issues here driving west on I-10 from San Antonio to El Paso. Once you get west of Junction, it's hundreds of miles of NOTHING!! Ahhh.... the wonders of frost-heave washboard roads... lol. I found out about them last May when Jim and I were driving along Kalifornski Beach Rd towards Kasilof and all of a sudden the truck is bouncing like crazy... lol!! THEN we saw the signs about the lower speeds and weight restrictions... Speaking of which, Jim is on his drive up to Alaska now. He was in Fox Creek, Canada last night so he's making great progress. "Driving and shopping and driving back..." sounds like my idea of a good day!!! I'm going to be flying into Anchorage on June 9 and will be there until and will be hanging out in the Anchorage area until Sunday morning June 12 when I head down south to the Kenai Peninsula. If you happen to be making another store run into that general area over that weekend, let me know and we can meet up somewhere. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 Your extra footage at the end is soooooo true!!! Just like my baby boys Jax and Ganga!!! That is them to a "T". Trooper Bill, over and out...

    • @AloneinRemoteAlaska
      @AloneinRemoteAlaska  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      LOL I remember your video with all the dogs (or most of them) on the bed! I was like, I guess Bill sleeps on the floor! 🤣 As for Kenai, he likes to lay on the bed but as soon as he thinks I am asleep, he will jump down to the floor to sleep. He will wake me up in the mornings though!! No snooze button with this dog! A California King double wide mattress?? I think you're going to need a bigger cabin! 😁 And definitely build those dogs a nice safe place to live! It's easier with one dog but you're bringing 4? 5? Should be nice and cozy with that many dogs in the container! It will be good on your conscience to care for your parents first. It's pretty obvious you are already an Alaskan and you cant let Jim have all the fun! Speaking of Jim, I have been keeping up with his progress via Instagram. He sounds excited (well as excited sounding as Jim can get) to almost be in Alaska! I will keep the dates in mind! Just depends on where my roof is at. Really can't wait for that to be done! Maybe live a winter without having to think my roof is going to collapse! Thank you Bill! Quick Draw over and out! 😁

      @@AloneinRemoteAlaska I was working on a reply and ... POOF... it disappeared, so maybe Jim is right, most of my dreams (and life) is a nightmare... LOL!!! As for the mega dog bed, no Double Cali King Mattress. I've seen a few that true dog lovers have made. I would take 2 king size bedframes and bolt them together. Then you put 2 king mattresses on top of the box springs, and there you have the perfect doggie family bed! One couple made an elaborate headboard, upholstered it and everything! It was cool!!! But no, it would never fit in the container... Hahahaha... That will have to wait for the "Big House" build. I will most likely end up taking 5 dogs north with me. Snooze on a dog??? Who are you kidding!! They never let me sleep past 7 when my alarm is set for!! Usually Britt beats the alarm, somewhere between 6 & 7:00 because she has to GOOOOO... and when she has to you'd better move quickly! She has some bladder control issues (adhesions after her spaying surgery wound dehissed). I either hear her shake when she wakes up, or I can "feel" her eyes boring into me as she set beside the bed... lol! THANK YOU!!! I feel like an Alaska already, but Jim will tell you that technically I cannot be, and give you a long list of why... LOL!!! I bet getting that roof fixed will be a huge load off your mind!! That's another reason I may have to winter-over down here... there is so much that needs to be done to this house and the property to get it ready to sell that there is no way that I can get it done in time!! I have now been informed that my son, his girlfriend and grandbaby Ezzie are going to move to Colorado Springs. Right now the target departure date is May 10... Of course!! It will be done with my trailer and truck. They will have to load the trailer the day before, then I can leave out of here on the 10th and drive up. Google Maps says it about 860 miles. I can do it one long hard day of driving if my back holds out, or may split it up into 2 parts, depending on how the day goes. When I get up there they will have a day to unload the trailer, then I'll head back here again... tons of fun!! He is really excited about moving up there and actually sounds happy for a change, so more power to them!! I'll help where I can, but I've already told them that their "cash cow" has run dry!! lol... KIDS!!!!! 😳🥺😕 You better be practicing your quick draw... We may just have to have a contest some day (unloaded of course!!!! - SAFETY FIRST, ALWAYS!!!)... LOL!!!
