Hi Luke, regarding the taxi in Penang. There was a junction at 38:35 between the ferry (Left) and Penang Sentral (Right). If u had turn to the left you could've save yourself RM59. The ferry is only RM 5 and it only takes 15 mins to cross the ocean. Taxi is a scam especially when they target tourists.
@@cedricyoung25 you need to get out of the building, maybe cross a road and get Grab from the roadside, with the Taxi's samseng attitude, the Grab drivers don't dare to go into Penang Sentral to pickup.
Good that you brought a sweater , the trains in Malaysia tend to crank up the AC like crazy 😂other than that the Malaysian trains are super convenient and nice to take!

Thank you, Luke for being authentic and doing all of this to share the world with the world.
Luke, usually people don't take the taxi from Butterworth to Georgetown because Georgetown is on the island of Penang. The best, more convenient and much much much cheaper option is the ferry and then taxi from the other side of the pier (on the island). I was shouting noooo then you decided to get a grab/taxi to the island. Ferry cost about RM2 from Butterworth to Georgetown. That price is not rip-off - it's an official price with taxi as you got it from the counter itself. You can get ripped-off if you negotiate the taxi off the counter. Taxi is pricier than Grab in Malaysia. Confusion at the counter: RM64 for you RM42 is for the other guy wearing grey jumper.

I'm a Malaysian who's been taking the train for the past 5 years. I agree with you on how hard it is to scan our QR code at the automatic gates. But I learn that it scans better if you print out the ticket on a paper than scanning them digitally thru your phones :) I print my tickets out all the time cuz the queue behind me stresses me out LOL
I truly love your videos. Really engaging and make us feel like we are actually traveling. Malaysians love AC because they are tired of heat and humidity, and nowadays transportation and everything is so confusing everywhere. Modern life is confusing!
Maylasia train station is immaculate. Wow! Beautiful. Very nice. Business Class seating area, looks like the entire station and trains are super clean and well maintained, like all are newer.
Hi Luke. Next time you ride the train and need to take the lift, always look around you first before following the crowd. When you arrived in Butterworth, the lift is actually just on the other side of the stairs. Most well known public transportation stations (or platforms) in popular cities in Malaysia, have been upgraded for easier mobility access- an elevator, and maybe also an escalator in addition to the stairs. You just need to look for the signboards or ask around. Anyways, hope you have a great time in Penang.
@@raymondchiew50 There are proper signboards, however people tend to pick the easiest accessed entry and exit points. This being the stairs where they got out from instead of checking to see if there is an escalator a bit further away. Hope this helps.
They say the road (directions) is just at your lips. Ask around 1st if you are not sure so not to waste time! They may even give you a good suggestion! 😊
Hai Luke..!!! I'm sorry that you have a little problem with the transportation. It's actually easier and cheaper if you take the ferry to the island and then from the ferry terminal it's easier for you to get a grab once you're on the island.... it becomes expensive when you take a taxi because they paid for the toll when using the bridge plus grab is always cheaper because they don't pay rent to the company. Just for your info
Yes also because the hotel that you stayed is on the other Island, the fare will be more expensive due to traffic conditions. If you take the ferry, it will usually come every 30 minutes. The last trip will be 21:30/22:00. @@LukeDamant

The Aeroline bus beats the train hands down. Leaves from KLCC ( Corus Hotel ) and drops at Queensbay Mall on Penang Island itself. Luxurious seats , meal supplied and dunny ( for number ones only ) onboard. Then just Grab at a reasonable price. No forever walks involved...lol
Did you visit the cafeteria on the train? At Malaysia terminal hub, if you got confused, look for information centre,or ask anyone. I'm sure many Malaysian willing to help. But double confirm your information you received, or you will misheard what being told because of the pronunciation. Just like your MRT / LRT experience. 😂 Btw, wish you good luck for CYD school.

Travelling used to be more convenient, 20 years ago. I used to take a train ride from Ipoh to KL for only 10 rm. Not much walking at the stations. There was a buffet coach where you can have a good meal. When I was a college student in the 70s, I used to take a taxi, shared with 3 other passengers, from Ipoh to KL, door to door service only for 8 rm! Midway, the taxi would stop, for us to have a nice lunch. Nowadays it would cost 500 rm or more, if there is even such a service! Luckily we can virtually travel with you,
Luke aliyo, In Indian Railways all the coaches are fitted with Bio-Toilets except EMUs. In this technology, bacteria is degrading human excreta completely in the bio-digester tank & only disinfected effluent is drained out from it. So basically it isn't like the one which was a few years back. Btw love your videos Luke Aliyo💗
Don't ever take taxis while you're in Malaysia, they're expensive asf. If you value your money, just take the grab. Cancel it if one doesn't come and reorder another grab.
oh shit i just realized you just uploaded this!! lol im finally early for one of your uploads haha love the content bro 🔥 much love from los angeles, ca
I found KL stations really confusing with how many stairs, lifts and bridges everywhere and I’ve been to Tokyo using their system which was so much easier!
Actually it’s not confusing if you know which train (LRT, MRT, KTM komuter) you want to ride…there are all located on the GF except for the MONOREL which is located on the 1st floor… one side of the KL Sentral is facing the hotel (Hilton n Le Meridian) side and the other one is to the shopping mall Nu Sentral.
@@nkveMRT station not at the same floor too. But you can find it by follow the signage. Plus there's an information counter with staff provided. What I found that many first time users missed a big transit map hanged on the wall nor far from ticket machines. The transit map provides information about the whole train lines, connections & stations (except ETS). They just go to the ticket machines which provide limited information. Then they will have problem to select which train line & find their final station. Next they'll try to buy tickets from staff at counters. But ended up staff will ask them to buy tickets from those machines.
Thats crazy to say tokyo stations are easier… it took me 3 trips to tokyo to understand the layout of Tokyo station and for Shinjuku i pretty much just has given up
Arriving Butterworth Penang Sentral, You shud take ferry instead. It's better frequency now n super cheap abt half 1 dollar I thnk wth the best experience. Everyone hates dealing with taxi drivers they are normally rude!
It's a pity that the lounge didn't provide rich food, otherwise everything would be perfect! It’s great that the train has its own screen to use! Overcooling of air conditioners in confined spaces is a common problem in Asia. It is really incomprehensible! I support you. That cup of coffee must be at least eight points full. The cake must be at least two pieces and the flavors must be different! The bento dishes on the train are really not as good as those in Japan and Taiwan, but if the bento is included in the train fare, then it’s okay! It's not your fault that you get lost in the train station, they should have clear signs or have enough attendants at the alighting area to assist passengers! 64 is 22 yuan more than 42. I wonder if this kind of confusion is normal in Malaysia? This is illegal in my country and the driver will be punished by the taxi company! Thanks for sharing your train journey, have a nice trip and take care! 👍🥰🙏
Their currency is ringgit, not yuan. Also the taxi driver didnt mark up the price. Rm64 was shown on the screen for Luke's destination. Rm42 was the fare for the other person who wanted to go to a different destination. It was a simple misunderstanding on Luke's part due to the language barrier
@@LukeDamant It may just be part of the adventure for you, because Luke you are a warrior! But it can be very inconvenient for other travelers or people who are in a hurry to get to other places! 😂👌
To be honest, the food at the ETS cafe (nasi lemak rendang) might be better than the complimentary business food. And usually they will be stocked upon reaching Ipoh.
Thank goodness you made it to your Airbnb ! I followed your journey from KL Sentral and was rather nervous seeing how you had to walk endlessly looking for a Grab pickup point and finally had to get into a taxi whose driver wasn’t even sure of your destination. I heard him asking you to ‘open’ the Waze app (GPS) twice. 😂
hey Luke, wow what a trip you have made to Penang, the train drive was pretty nice, whit the coffe and cake and rice, but on the station it was verry dificult to find your way, once in the verry expencife taxi you made it to your hotel.i enjoyed this video, thanks for sharing see you in the next one about Penang, cheers mate 😃👍🫂
I love your videos, Luke. Thanks for the video! However, I have a question. I don't remember you filming your flights. Can you do that next time? I am very curious
An advice for the foreign traveler. Make sure to avoid using taxis in Malaysia as they going to charge you 2, or 3 times or sometimes overcharge the price. I had a bad experience with this service the driver "forgot" the road and chose the longer one and forced me to pay more. His excuses were nonsense. Even for us local, we don't use this service because of that. Just stick to the Grab. Be patient. For me as a local rather wait 1 hour for the Grab. Pardon me but Malaysian taxi is a big no for me.
Why KTMB n MoT don't provide escalator and lift in Butterworth KTM Station to make more comfortable for travelers who use KTM ETS to go Ferry Jetty and Penang Sentral. MoT/ Government dah xde punya urat malu kah kpd pelancong2 asing yg datang ke Penang dan ke Padang Besar KTM Station.
Setuju. KTMB memang amat lemah dari segi perancangan. Barisan pemimpin (board of directors etc) dia memang jauh lemah berbanding RapidKL. Keretapi dah OK tapi stesen KTMB, aduhai, amat mengecewakan.
That taxi such a rip off price. But at certain places the Grab won't really accept the price the apps offered. The driver need to pay extra Rm15++ just to cross the island through the toll bridge. The cheapest way is only to take the shuttle bus from Butterworth to GeorgeTown like us the local people did
Dude, where's the buffett at 7:00+? I was looking forward to see what they have in that lounge. When my Dad was still alive, I used to drive up to Penang. Then I got tired of driving up and decided to fly up when they're promotional flights available. I'm so glad I did that after seeing the hassles you went through going up on the train. I think you were spot on when you suspected there's some kinda of monopoly going on at the station. That was my 1st thought when I saw the 1 grab cancelled and the 2nd one just stop and refused to answer your message, seems like a Grab driver strategy, don't respond until the customer cancels. Maybe Grab drivers are scared off by that Taxi syndicate stationed at the Train station? Sad state of affairs in the transportation in Penang train station! Next time you're best option would be fly, It'll be a bit more expensive but you'll get there a lot faster with a lot less hassles and I remember Grab was easy to get at the Airport. Anyway, try not to ponder about that awful experience and enjoy your adventure up in Penang. Lots of good food up that way for sure, hopefully I can get up there one of these days, missed the food there.

I noticed Malaysians are serious people. They look unbothered 😂. People in Indonesia, Thailand or Philippines always love to be on camera and saying hi.
People across Asia have their own ways of showing hospitality. I enjoy exploring these cultural differences. 😊
great trip. i like the reaction of the people around you... (i'm not used to see people vlogging either lool)
Glad you enjoyed the video!
Malaysia truly Asia❤❤❤
You are right!
Haha, for me it feels like crazy mix of cultures😁awesome unique place
HOPE UR HAVING FUN IN PENANG . cant wait to watch ur penang vlogg
Thanks! I'm enjoying every moment here :)
Blessings Luke. Love your videos. And ones you produce with Dale Philip too. May you and your family in Australia have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Watching you from beautiful Tennessee.
wow ive never seen a video on the train rides in malaysia, very interesting! by the way you NEED to eat penang laksa over there its delicious in my opinion. thanks for another great vid :D
Glad you found it interesting! Penang Laksa sounds like a must-try now :)
It's the raining seasons in S E Asia now !!!
Btw, wish you good luck for CYD school.
Really helpful tips, thanks a bunch! 👌
Hopefully u are able to come to Kuchign Sarawak ❤. Love the vlogs Luke!
I hope so too!
@@LukeDamantyeah come to Kuching…Sarawak will be adventurous for u..

Appreciate your kind words, mate! Cheers! 🙌
YOU should try Kereta Api Timuran, which the line will travel the hidden Jungle and part of Malaysia of the East coast Malaysia

What a journey..!
Btw, as a Malaysian I'd never take a taxi.. they made me dizzy..he he..
Hope you enjoy Penang mate..! 👍🇲🇾☺️
Haha, I totally get the taxi dizziness. Penang's been amazing so far!
Over 4 and a half years of travelling, you have come so far Luke 🎉
Thanks for being part of this incredible journey!
@@LukeDamant Welcome to Morocco luke , I like your video traveling and barber haircuts
@@LukeDamantsirrr visit Algeria too
Travelling used to be more convenient, 20 years ago. Luckily we can virtually travel with you,
Inflation have truely inflated the prices to the moon😁
Thank you for the awesome review on the ETS KTM! We hope you will come back to Malaysia in the future Luke ❤
Boarding a ferry is much better option than taking a taxi
Yeah, will try that next time! :)
Luke aliyo, In Indian Railways all the coaches are fitted with Bio-Toilets except EMUs. In this technology, bacteria is
degrading human excreta completely in the bio-digester tank & only disinfected effluent is drained out
from it. So basically it isn't like the one which was a few years back.
Btw love your videos Luke Aliyo💗
You should have caught the ferry quicker and cheaper, I love Penang and have lived there for six years in the ADF
This video was a great resource, thank you for sharing your knowledge.
And thank you so much for watching! :)
This is just what I need right before going to bed!
Enjoy watching! :)
You did a pretty good with the details including a bidet facility 😂. TQ for enlightening us🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿.
Don't ever take taxis while you're in Malaysia, they're expensive asf. If you value your money, just take the grab. Cancel it if one doesn't come and reorder another grab.
And beware of Myvis, those things are freaking dangerous
Love from India ❣️
Sending love! ❤️
20:05 noughty boy i can understand why you smile. hahaha
oh shit i just realized you just uploaded this!! lol im finally early for one of your uploads haha love the content bro 🔥 much love from los angeles, ca
Haha, glad you made it early this time! Thanks for the love from LA! 🙌
U should take ferry directly from butterworth to georgetown just 15mins
That's quick! I'll consider that next time.
Hii Luke 😊 your vlog is so engaging as always 😍 best of luck for your upcoming project 😀
Hey! Thanks a bunch! Your support means a lot to me! 😊
Maybe for the first time, KL's stations are a bit of a puzzle.
❤❤❤❤❤❤From the PHILIPPINES
I agree, getting lost can be tough, but it's all part of the adventure!
@@aventus736 Thanks a lot for letting me know, you are very nice! 😄👍
You are wonderful boy, good luck Malaysia is amazing country..
Travel 101 in Malaysia for everyone - tourists and locals alike - never ever take local taxi unless u hv absolutely no choice!
Thanks for the tip!
To be honest, the food at the ETS cafe (nasi lemak rendang) might be better than the complimentary business food. And usually they will be stocked upon reaching Ipoh.
23:34 it's good that it's really loud. In case you're having "serious case of diarrhea" having all that gas. At least no one will hear a thing 😂😂😂
Haha, that's one way to look at it! 😂
Why didn’t you just get the ferry across to Penang from Butterworth for less than a dollar?
Yes, that’s half filled. You can always ask for more coffee.
Malaysia such a beauitful country, surely planing to visit it
Great video Luke.
Thanks for watching! :)
Wow. You have a time to reply all the comments. That’s amazing ❤ 🇱🇰
Luke you can try other E hailing service other than Grab. Such as Maxim/Airasia ride etc. Sad to see you got ripped off by the taxis.
I didn't know there are other service, haha!
hey Luke, wow what a trip you have made to Penang, the train drive was pretty nice, whit the coffe and cake and rice, but on the station it was verry dificult to find your way, once in the verry expencife taxi you made it to your hotel.i enjoyed this video, thanks for sharing see you in the next one about Penang, cheers mate 😃👍🫂
Glad you liked the video! The train journey was fantastic. Thank you for the support!
I love your videos, Luke. Thanks for the video! However, I have a question. I don't remember you filming your flights. Can you do that next time? I am very curious
Thank you for your support and kind words! I do have some, check out my other videos! :)
I didn't know about the train from Penang to KL so I took the bus. Instead of the planned 5 hours it took 9 :) Was cheap though haha
Can't agree more ..
In fact, when I watch your videos, I prepare to make a cup of hot tea with cookies and cake and enjoy what you convey to us♥️
Thanks for the sweet gesture! ❤️
As i know this is "kl sentral" not KLCC, KLCC is another station
Why KTMB n MoT don't provide escalator and lift in Butterworth KTM Station to make more comfortable for travelers who use KTM ETS to go Ferry Jetty and Penang Sentral.
MoT/ Government dah xde punya urat malu kah kpd pelancong2 asing yg datang ke Penang dan ke Padang Besar KTM Station.
Setuju. KTMB memang amat lemah dari segi perancangan. Barisan pemimpin (board of directors etc) dia memang jauh lemah berbanding RapidKL. Keretapi dah OK tapi stesen KTMB, aduhai, amat mengecewakan.
Wow, You really padded out this episode even for you and thanks for pointing out the seats and window as I wouldn't have known !!!!!
Haha, sometimes it's the little things that count, right? Thanks for watching!
That taxi such a rip off price. But at certain places the Grab won't really accept the price the apps offered. The driver need to pay extra Rm15++ just to cross the island through the toll bridge. The cheapest way is only to take the shuttle bus from Butterworth to GeorgeTown like us the local people did
You are definitely right! I'll take the bus next time! :)
Take care wherever you're, Luke. Personal safety priority at all times ,the rest can wait ✋️
Yeah, thank you so much! 🙏
Next try the Aeroline Bus company from Queensbay Mall Shopping Centre in Penang on your return journey to KL
It's nice to see you, Luke, enjoying your wonderful fitness. I hope one day you will visit the beauty of my country, Yemen.❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you for watching! Hopefully soon! ♥️
Your advice is spot on! Flying definitely offers convenience.
How did you booked the ticket? Is it online? I tried and it have some issues
From Butterworth train stn walk to ferry port to Penang if early.😊
You should increase the brightness of your phone when scanning the QR code. Then it work just fine
