Happy New Year Lisa all the way from warm tropical East Africa ;) and a warmer thankyou for such exceptional, raw, no-nonsense reviews. I did not request this smackdown because I knew it was inevitable after your Tap 11 review. I have struggled with this decision for a while but now I can rest ;)
I just saw this Vaio Tap 11 at less than $500 on Sears. It was on clearance because it was used. I didnt see any pen though so I dont know if I can buy it separately. Do you think, after a year, and being used, this is a better choice than the Surface 3 or Surface Pro 3? Especially in terms of value, but I really enjoy the pen on the Surface line and its access to OneNote.
imo the surface pro 2 should be 11" so it's a little better for desktop use (that might make it thinner like the sony) and the surface 2 should be 10" so it can be lighter and the desktop will be used rarely. and what they really need to do for windows 8 overall is utilize the stylus more like touchwiz on the galaxy note series.
Thanks for that info I appreciate it. And this video was very good. I can't believe the people at Microsoft didn't mention this. I may lean toward the Surface Pro 2 now because of the lack of RAM (only 4GB max) on the Sony. Any thoughts?
hi lisa , i don't know which to get ;microsoft surface pro 2 or sony vaio duo 13 can you please make a smackdown comparison between the two i need some help
I know I'm going to be in the minority here, but I still prefer the the Sony Tap 11, mainly because of the extra 1"on screen real estate and the keyboard. There are definitely clear pluses and minuses on both sides, however as I already have a Sony Duo 13 and I have just changed from Samsung Laptops (15"Samsung Series 9 from 2012), tablets (Samsung Galaxy 10.1 4g and Samsung Note 8.0 Wifi), phablet (Samsung Galaxy Note 2) and phone (Samsung Galaxy S4) to their Sony equivalents Sony Vaio Duo, Sony Xperia Tablet Z, Sony Xperia Z Ultra and Sony Xperia Z1), I think I am pretty now heavily invested in the Sony eco system. The killer is that Sony have only released a single model of the Vaio Tap 11 in Australia, which is the Core i5 version with 128gb SSD, but put a A$1,699 price tag on it, which prices it almost half way between the Surface Pro 2 model with 8gb & 256gb SSD(A$1,469) and the Surface Pro 2 model with 8gb RAM & 512gb SSD (A$2,049). So looks like I'll be looking closely at the Surface Pro 2 with 8gb & 256gb plus Type Cover 2.
I think the Vaio is much more elegant, thinner, much better keyboard and the colors seem more accurate. The whites in the Surface are not as good as on the Sony. The Surface looks like a product from a previous generation.
no scheisse, aesthetically, it is identical to the first gen. can you guarantee you would be saying the same thing if the surface and the vaio tap had come out at the same time? what features make the keyboard "much better"? the only pros I can think of is if the chiclet keys were really a selling point for someone and that it's wireless, but the cons far outweigh those, since the surface keyboard can easily be converted to wireless.
hey, Lisa. Can you do review on the Toshiba Encore WT8-A32M Touchscreen Tablet, and how's the quality of the tablet too. Some of Toshiba's android tablets are known for having bad quality. Hopefully the windows 8 one are good or better than the Lenovo and dell one.
You should have docked Sony more for the weird "never quite fully attaches" keyboard--a strange design choice by Sony no doubt motoviated by patent issues. I am looking to by a pro 256 when MS restocks. I find the whole "put of stock" thng a bad portent for the pro
Thanks Lisa, I thought it seemed like wishful thinking! I am still holding out for a tablet with a Intel 5000 before I take the plunge. Keep up the great work.
There's one HUGE difference that I didn't see mentioned here. The Sony Tap 11 has native WiDi (wireless video) and the Surface Pro (from what I understand and even contacted Microsoft to confirm) does not and you can not transfer video wirelessly. That's a deal breaker for me. On the Sony you can also extend your screen to have two different screens and apps etc which is pretty much standard with WiDi. Also now if you go to the Sony store you can customize your Tap 11. They now have an i7 quad core processor and up to 512GB SSD. The one thing that really sucks is that you can only have a max 4GB of RAM and they don't expect to change this anytime soon.
VAIO Tap 11 for sure, I know the product very good...in Europe you can customize it up to 512GB SSD as well. NFC, VAIO Inspiration stream and one of my favourite one the IR remote control were not mentioned. Other than that nice comparison
Not sure why the Audio Quality seems so bad in your most recent Videos. Did you change your Mic-Setup? Great Comparison Video nonetheless! Thank you Lisa! Happy New Year. :)
***** that's what I have i must say am amazed at the games this little bay trail could handled, I just couldn't sleep at night if I spent over 500 on a tablet, lol
Depends on what I want the tablet to do. Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition is one of my faves. Surface Pro 2 when I need full Windows programs. iPad mini Retina for reading and playing games.
I've got Surface Pro 2 but it got hardware failure I have to return instead of exchange cuz no more inventory.... I don't know if i should get Surface Pro 2 again..
A little bit thinner? The Vaio 11 is a hell of a lot thinner. Also, the Windows button on Sony is a better idea because it prevents accidental pushing of the button.
marksapollo why is that so strange? water is not the only thing that can get into the ports. and similar to apple, aesthetics is very important to sony; they obviously feel this offers a seamless presentation.
why so many ppls goes MS surface? you are buying a tablet toy, first thing we need to consider should be it's thickness , weight , color choice, and screen resolution, etc. Sony VAIO must be way better than surface, Sony has produced computers more than 2 decades, as long/well as MS produced Windows O.S, Imaging if SONY launching Sony.O.S in the market today, can u believe SONY O.S is better than M.S Windows?
I still believe Razer Edge Pro is a miracle there. 2 years old tablet and yet has not been overtaken in by any tablet on some features. I like Sony's thin design here, but the keyboard should be backlit, detachable and attachable, featuring some extra ports and battery extension. Thick just enough to fit USB 3.0 ports on the side. And storage, 128GB SSD would be sweet if only we had another 7200rpm HDD of 500+ GB. Hybrid drives maybe? + Can somebody please explain this performance mess to me please? This review says Surface 2 prevails here, but what about Vaio tap 11 with Intel core i7 3517U, it's also U series CPU and includes hyperthreading and turbo boost technologies... I should have been stronger =/.
How about original Surface Pro with 4GB, i5 ivy bridge, 128 GB SSD at $599 vs Sony Tap 11 Pentium, 4GB, 128 GB SSD. Seems the Surface Pro would be much faster and a better deal...what do you think Lisa.
IMO nothing has beaten the Surface Pro 2 yet, like the Sony has a better colour screen but a useless stand and not a very well thought out keyboard less power.
For anyone in the art, science or engineering industry or just likes to play games every now and then, I would recommend a full laptop or simply wait until Intel graphics gets a whole lot better. All these tablets use the Intel HD 4000 series. Pretty much worthless except for browsing the Internet and watching movies.
Just wanted to say Happy New Year to all of you. Thanks for making it a great 2013 and 2014 will rock!

Happy New Year...

Happy New Year Lisa! It is always such a pleasure to watch your reviews. I'm totally addicted :) Best wishes for 2014!
Looking forward to some more great reviews Lisa

Happy New Year Lisa !! I love your channel, you have the best reviews and a great speaking voice thank you for all the hard work you put in !!!
Happy new year lisa, i love your reviews, i wish you all the best in the new year, and thank you for an awsome job.
Excellent in depth review! Very savvy and I loved your delivery :)

Lisa, I have a Surface Pro. Is there any difference in the Surface Pro and the Surface Pro 2?
Happy new year! :D major love from England!
Happy New Year Lisa!!!!
Happy New Year Lisa darling. Keep the good reviews flowin in 2014 as well.
Happy New Year! Another excellent comparison. I still go for the Surface Pro 2 for its Wacom technology.
I know I'm going to be in the minority here, but I still prefer the the Sony Tap 11, mainly because of the extra 1"on screen real estate and the keyboard.

When is the sp3 coming out, I reay hope they make it more powerfull, buff the battery, and make it a bit lighter
I think the Vaio is much more elegant, thinner, much better keyboard and the colors seem more accurate. The whites in the Surface are not as good as on the Sony.

Did you watch the review you're just mad because you got tricked into buying that Sony crap
hey, Lisa. Can you do review on the Toshiba Encore WT8-A32M Touchscreen Tablet, and how's the quality of the tablet too. Some of Toshiba's android tablets are known for having bad quality. Hopefully the windows 8 one are good or better than the Lenovo and dell one.
What about now with the i7, tap 11 that just came out. What kind of performance can that have compared to the surface pro 2 or other ultrabooks
Which is best for editing photos on Adobe LightRoom on the go?
Love your reviews.
You should have docked Sony more for the weird "never quite fully attaches" keyboard--a strange design choice by Sony no doubt motoviated by patent issues. I am looking to by a pro 256 when MS restocks. I find the whole "put of stock" thng a bad portent for the pro
Sony lists the VAIO as having a Intel HD5000 which should be more powerful than the 4400 in the Surface Pro 2, is this an error on the Sony website?
If you see that, it's certainly an error. The Tap 11 most certainly doesn't have HD 5000 graphics with the Pentium or Y series CPUs.
Thanks Lisa, I thought it seemed like wishful thinking! I am still holding out for a tablet with a Intel 5000 before I take the plunge. Keep up the great work.
they're selling refurb tap 11 pentium versions for 480 shipped. is that cheap enough to make it worth it
There's one HUGE difference that I didn't see mentioned here. They both support Miracast natively with Windows 8.1, which is essentially the successor to WiDi.
LOL funny all that for nothing. Windows 8.1 haha surface pro 2 wins again
thanks for the review, it was really really helpful.
If the pro surface 2 keyboard isnt magnetically attached, does it still work?and if so,via bluetooth?via ir?
The keyboard attaches via a physical connector. MS is supposed to release an accessory that turns it into a wireless keyboard.
VAIO Tap 11 for sure, I know the product very good...in Europe you can customize it up to 512GB SSD as well. NFC, VAIO Inspiration stream and one of my favourite one the IR remote control were not mentioned.
Other than that nice comparison
i wish the patent issues will stop for the samsung ativ q , i really want that tablet convertible that was one of the best tablets i saw in my life
Hey lisa can you do a review on the Inspiron 17 7000 Series Touch I rely on you for reviews but I can understand if your to busy
Not sure why the Audio Quality seems so bad in your most recent Videos. Did you change your Mic-Setup?
Great Comparison Video nonetheless!
Thank you Lisa!
Happy New Year. :)
Nope, same mic and the videos sound the same to me. Weird.
Mhh it indeed is. Anyway - Thanks for your quick response. :) Have a nice day!
Liza can you also put Acer Aspire P3 to Smack down? Thanks. Happy New Year
Lisa ,,where is the dell venue 11pro review????Can't find a good one anywhere,,, please helpppppppppppp!!!!!!!
Dell still hasn't sent out Venue 11 Pro review units. Hopefully it won't be much longer.
Thank you for responding,
***** that's what I have i must say am amazed at the games this little bay trail could handled, I just couldn't sleep at night if I spent over 500 on a tablet, lol
A very Happy New Year Lisa, Have a great 2014
hey Lisa, I'm just curious what is your favorite tablet from 2013 and why it is so, Thank you!
Depends on what I want the tablet to do. Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition is one of my faves. Surface Pro 2 when I need full Windows programs. iPad mini Retina for reading and playing games.
I hope you have fun at CES 2014 Lisa!
I'm sure I will!
Hi. Lisa!! Nice Really Nice review! Which of these product is the best, Asus transformer t300, VAIO Tap 11, Thinkpad Helix, Microsoft Pro 2?
I've got Surface Pro 2 but it got hardware failure I have to return instead of exchange cuz no more inventory.... I don't know if i should get Surface Pro 2 again..
A little bit thinner? The Vaio 11 is a hell of a lot thinner.
Also, the Windows button on Sony is a better idea because it prevents accidental pushing of the button.

Is the Sony waterproof like their smartphones or are the flaps just for decoration.
No the Tap 11 isn't waterproof like some Xperia tablets.
MobileTechReview Then it makes so sense for them to have covered the ports with plastic flaps? Very strange design ideas.
marksapollo Sony thinks exposed ports are ugly (not saying I agree with them).
marksapollo why is that so strange? water is not the only thing that can get into the ports. and similar to apple, aesthetics is very important to sony; they obviously feel this offers a seamless presentation.
why so many ppls goes MS surface? you are buying a tablet toy, first thing we need to consider should be it's thickness , weight , color choice, and screen resolution, etc. Sony VAIO must be way better than surface, Sony has produced computers more than 2 decades, as long/well as MS produced Windows O.S, Imaging if SONY launching Sony.O.S in the market today, can u believe SONY O.S is better than M.S Windows?
can you tell me why according to you guys the s2 is better than the sony? sony bigger and better display and better desing...
lisa simpson wow you have grown so much!
I have the Surface pro 2 and it's a top product! Thanks for this vídeo.
Surface Pro 2...still the champ!
I still believe Razer Edge Pro is a miracle there. 2 years old tablet and yet has not been overtaken in by any tablet on some features.

I want to buy the surface pro 2 but thanks to the stupid dis-assembly process it's what's holding me back from getting it !
what dis-assembly process? I'm on the edge of buying it
***** I likr being able to modify stuff if I am unsatisfied with a component. Doesn't mean I like to trash my stuff
Unfortunately here in Brazil we don't have surface in market, that is why I bought Sony Tap 11.
Você gostou? Eu também estou pensando em comprar um, mas com o Surface 3 fora fico em dúvida
Dell venue 11 pro please.

How about original Surface Pro with 4GB, i5 ivy bridge, 128 GB SSD at $599 vs Sony Tap 11 Pentium, 4GB, 128 GB SSD. Seems the Surface Pro would be much faster and a better deal...what do you think Lisa.
No need to reply Lisa-I have fallen in love with the N-Trip pen.
I love you. Your reviews are awesome.
IMO nothing has beaten the Surface Pro 2 yet, like the Sony has a better colour screen but a useless stand and not a very well thought out keyboard less power.
Great review, made it easy to make a decision towards the surface pro 2
You bought a surface pro 2? You won't regret it if you did as it is an awesome product!
Happy New Year Lisa. Love your reviews. My gf loves her Asus Memo Pad Smart. I do too better than the iPad 2 I have.
PLEASE review the Wacom Companion and Companion Hybrid!! :)
Whenever she said bestbuy I heard Vespa
Love the surface pro 2
Tnx
I have this tablet and the back side is made of metal, not plastic
As much as I dislike the Vaio Tap 11, I still like it more for drawing.
Why do you like the Tap 11 better for drawing? Just curious.
MobileTechReview I'm more familier with N-Trig, like a lot of the things you've mentioned about N-Trig is what I like about it.
I would like the Surface Pro 2 better
For anyone in the art, science or engineering industry or just likes to play games every now and then, I would recommend a full laptop or simply wait until Intel graphics gets a whole lot better. ***** You lie!
***** lol yeah right, I'm running Intel HD 5000 and can bearly get smooth frames on Bioshock High settings
THEY ALL LIE ! HD 5000 is junk.
Surface screen is far better than Sony
Sony Tap all the way...surface looks ugly
What about now with the i7, tap 11 that just came out. What kind of performance can that have compared to the surface pro 2 or other ultrabooks
