It hit New Jersey so bad. l lost power for 10 days and a lot of people in my town had to take refuge in my high school. The immediately following the storm we had a blizzard and I remember being so cold at night because we had no power or any form of heat. But it really was a time where the community came together.

One of the worst storm I’ve ever experienced as a New Yorker. First time I ever feared for my and my families life as the storm hit. The entire night the gust of wind blowing and numerous I thought my roof was flying off. I huddled with my then 2 years old daughter and husband in the dark the whole night. It was scary as hell.

My family was very fortunate. We only lost power for a day. My grandparents who lived a mile away from us only lost their internet. They never lost their lights. Our house suffered no damage. We had a tree in our backyard fall on our house from Hurricane Irene in 2011. We had another backyard tree fall on a different part of our roof during Hurricane Isais in August 2020. Our roof sustained heavy damage from it. During Irene I was in our guest room (now my dads office) going through some stuff and I heard a big crash and I was like “what was that?” I came up the stairs and I saw through one of our kitchen picture windows a tree on the house and I immediately got my parents. It was after the storm came through and the tree succumbed to the damage it sustained during the storm. During Isais DURING the storm I was with my brother and we were talking with my dad in his office and out of the blue a we heard a huge crash on the roof and we immediately went outside and realized the other tree fell right over our heads. It fell on the part of the roof where my parents room is. When we did the cleanup after Isais we had the utility crew cut down whatever was left of the tree. I’ll never forget that.

My friend was in hurricane sandy... and I kind of feel guilty about not being born yet, not being able to experience it with her... but I’m also kind of glad I wasn’t born yet, being able to be safe. But the story she told me, was no one died, but when I watched this I had a few questions. It is now March 17, 2021. I want to learn how to prevent people from getting hurt in these things, especially in the case of a tornado. I also heard that a bomb exploded to, which is devastating. I hope no one is still recovering from there injuries, and they are all safe now.

Imagine Katrina came a cat 1 aswell but with the strength of a 5 the northeast isin't used to what would happen in these situations resulting in most of our property getting destroyed. The boardwalks for example would be rumble but the houses would be debris and the water would wipe out any city or town close to the Atlantic. We would be Finished.

I know its hard in a world where all we hear is bad news, but that is just a distraction from how beautiful this life really is. So much hate it is contagious, a disease, a virus that must be stopped and cut off from who we truly are. We are given the miracle of life..lets embrace it.

I was in a hurricane once (ever heard of Hurricane Juan? It hit Nova Scotia in about 2003), and it wasn't that bad at ALL. Hell, I just slept through it, and when I got up my house was 99.9999999999999999999999999% intact. All we lost were the leaves and a few branches off of the trees in our yard (and it was autumn anyways so...), and five days of no power (and no school :D). Frankly, Call of Duty multiplayer was tougher than that storm.

I live in tornado alley, where without warning , strike late evening or during the night.
Nature is something to not take lightly, if I lived where hurricane strike I'd get hotel inland until the Strom passes.
A tornado 🌪 just a cloud then with little warning can cause immense destruction.
One side of the street houses are leveled the other left untouched, can flip train cars off the tracks, drive blade of grass into a tree.
Both are amazing extreme forces of nature.

To ALL those who have nothing nice to say about the USA and blame us for everything wrong with your part of the world, don't bother knocking at our door when you encounter your next catastrophe. Ours is a country with compassion and generosity. When we see the suffering in other countries after a disaster, we always make it a point to help any way we can with little or no expectations of getting anything back. So again, if you've got nothing nice to say, shut the hell up!

But the water almost reached our door.(we lived upstairs at the time, we’ve moved though.)They’ve also told me that a car was up in a tree. Yes, up in a tree. After the storm passed, people were lining up their cars and opened the doors so we could crawl through. So percentwise, the united states gave around nine times less than norway, In fact, of the 21 wealthiest countries in the world, the united states ranked 15th when it came to aid per capita.

We ain't causing the burned down houses, abandoned schools, liquor stores on every corner, & 3-4ft grass growing on vacant lots. Outsiders come here to do their dirt then go back to their clean, comfortable areas. Also, our city and state leaders aren't giving our city the proper funding to fix DETROIT up. ***DONATE MONEY TO DETROIT, THIS CITY IS A MESS****

if you smoke weed you may have noticed how excited 1 the news reporter was to be where she was and and the little truffle shuffles she was pulling off "and then some" she could be a rapper the way she was darting about - "nothing to do with the wind.

The problem with religion in the election, as I see it, is that a lot of folks are bringing religion into it, and making a case for Romney, him being the "most religious". Several of his political stances are directly a cause of his religion, which terrifies me. I'm an atheist, living in a country where ca. 70% of the population is atheist, and i'm opposed to anyone who is guided by faith contrary to evidence being in office. You don't vote for your religion, but many do.

1: I don't live in your country. You're screwing up your own future.
2: The number of people unemployed in the US peaked in October 2009 at 15,421,000. There are now 3,163,000 fewer people unemployed in the country. That's from the US Department of numbers, available on the internet. You are either lying, or you're wrong on unemployment.
3: When obama took office, the debt was 10 trillion and your economy was screwed. During Bush, debt went from 5 trillion to 10 trillion the economy got screwed.

Where are people starving? At least name one town (and you
have to provide your news source) that is being forced to evacuate.

It's sad that it happened, but I am sick of listening to this crap, it's not that big fucking deal, and it's more damn annoying that how people come together to treat NYC like it's the worst thing ever happened. Come on, nobody really did shit for people who was affected by Hurricane Katrina or Hurricane Rita, that's bullshit.

Hurricane "Sandy" had the maximum wind speed in US of 110 mph (49 ish meters per sec) , That sadly caused havoc in New York and other places.
While "Iceland" today had windspeed up to 70 meters per sec or 150 mph.
    We call it winter time.

why are so concerned about the Hamptons, do you have family there or something? Also the Hamptons were not hit very bad, mostly Fire Island and Long Beach hit the worst.
