    Perhaps the parables can be seen also that we have to be as things understandable and relatable to people, true and yet not exclusive or reserved for ourselves but for the service of others. Perhaps also, salt, city on a hill, and light, are connected to Jesus being the Way (light), the Truth (salt), and the Life (city on a hill). A city on a hill is a strong point and a place of refuge for people defending themselves against invading enemy, hence also it cannot be built lightly lest the city be taken easily.

      Going out on a limb by saying NABRE, but Dr. Hahn also uses the Ignatius Study Bible, the NRSV-CE. I don't think Dr. Hahn uses it but I also know there is a KJV-CE as well.
