I read about the homeward path interaction on reddit and asked a judge friend and said that it worked. But judges cab misjudge and we all know how reliable reddit is. If you are a judge respond to this comment with a solid ruling so we can all understand. Thanks fans.
CR 603.7e If an activated or triggered ability creates a delayed triggered ability, the source of that delayed triggered ability is the same as the source of that other ability. The controller of that delayed triggered ability is the player who controlled that other ability as it resolved. Due to this, the person who controls the set up trigger is the same as the person who controls the sacrifice trigger, meaning that the "sacrifice me" source is the person who controlled Gisa, not the owner of the creature with decayed. CR 701.17a To sacrifice a permanent, its controller moves it from the battlefield directly to its owner's graveyard. A player cant sacrifice something that isnt a permanent, or something thats a permanent they dont control... Since the Gisa player doesnt control the creature at the time of the sacrifice trigger, the creature doesn't get sacrificed if you need, i can link a video that explains this
@@apophis456 Disappointed it doesn't work as originally thought, but giving your opponents decayed creatures is still a bonus. Really eager to see this deck-list, DJ's play style is very similar to mine and I've been wanting to build a mono-b deck for a while now.
That homeward path is some 4d level chess tough. damn. Also your the only one who gets me invested in building Gisa instead of Mind flayer, the shadow.
Couple of additional "free" removal spells for those interested: Slaughter Pact & Snuff Out. Also, loove the symmetrical reanimation package. I will definitely be incorporating that into my build :)
I bet a bunch of people have already written this, but Deadly Rollick specifically exiles a creature. It's easy to forget because black from what I know tends to kill things. It actually exiling a creature might bend the rules of the color pie a little, but I think that, besides it being one of the 'cheap commander' spells is what makes it so sought-after. Besides that... Interesting! I've thought about brewing more mono-colored Commander decks. I like your take on some of the commanders that exist, mono-colored or not. I don't remember if your video was the first that showed me the commander, but it definitely hyped me up more about Minn by orders of magnitude.
Gisa is fun in my Juri Aristrocrat deck since Red has access to Haste or if you go mono black,Crashing Drawbridge, LOL the flavor of Crashing Drawbridge and Gisa's decayed army coming through *chef's kiss :P
Im not 100% sure if the homeward path trick works. The thing is creatures have to be sacrificed by their controllers. So if you give them their creature back sacrifice trigger on the stack, when it resolves it is no longer your creature, but it is your trigger, so it MIGHT (and i could be wrong on the rules on this i admit) just give them their creature back (albeit they still have decayed) and not sacrifice them because it isnt your creature, so your trigger cannot sacrifice them. and they stick around back under their control Again....could be wrong
You’re correct. Homeward path doesn’t work the way people want it to It does however, give your opponents creatures with decayed which means if they swing you get them back
I really dont understand why pitiless plunder is $14 its really not that good I think pawn of ulamog is better it’s essentially the same thing at 1 mana less make blockers and sax fodder. Creature and artifact removal is the most prevalent removal.
@@johnevans6629 Cannot agree. Here's why: Pitiless produces treasures for tokens and non tokens alike, while the Pawn only triggers for nontoken creatures. Also treasures are way more combo friendly than the eldrazi spawns. I run them both in my Meren deck and Teysa Karlov deck and I can say... The difference is quite expressive. Cheers!
The decayed aspect is really nice what would be nice is using the grixis marchesa I mean not for a cedh but moreso a casual focused deck this gisa would make a nice addition giving the decayed creatures a +1/+1 therefore they will stay on your battle field
I was told by a judge that homeward path doesn't work for the same reason that abilities you control that say sacrifice a creature you can't choose a creature that isn't yours to sacrifice. Cauldron of souls could help you make some deals politically as well. I would still argue that the card belongs in the deck because you can make deals with what you return and kill them off again the old fashion way.
Decayed creates a trigger when you attack with it. It'll still be sacrificed even if it no longer has decayed, so i don't see why the trigger wouldn't force a sacrifice if it changes player control. I know you cannot sacrifice someone elses creatures, but they'd be forced to sac their own.
Hi DJ! It's been a long time! I'm sorry for my absence in the comments. I've been taking a big break from Mtg since I haven't been able to play with my friends. It's nice to see a video from you again!
I am sorry to add this, but conjurer's closet doesn't work either, since It blinks creatures EOT and decay sacrifice them EOCombat. It doesn't matter for the purpose of the video witch is great!
Hi dj, love your initial logic. Was wondering, do you have a top 10 commander that can be pushed to the max and not be instantly hated, but can still win games against the big boys of like kenrith or what not?
Nice! Yes this is a way better tergrid, a lot of cards mentioned have synergy with decayed and I am value player. However I think lifeline gives too much back to the opponents. Thanks for these videos (wallet does not agree)
It is a mixed bag.... On one hand initially they won't go back to you cause they get exiled..... But then when it dies under your control it will return to them cause lifeline returns to owner not controller.
I got a Gisa in a booster and immediatly thought about making a deck for it That said, I'm aware the deck is like 50% "Destroy target creature" or "target/each player sacrifices a creature" and you are just gonna steal every single thing your players play, so, yeah I might make a deck just to play a few games, but then I'm just gonna dismantle it and add this Gisa as a 99 in another one Cuz this commander is actually *NOT* fun, it is for whoever is playing it "LMAO I just stole your Ulamog for 2 mana" but it paints a target on your back, it's very one sided and I wouldn't like to play against it myself just as I don't like to play against control decks cuz whoever is playing it wants to play Solitaire, not Magic
Yeah this is correct. People fail to remember to sacrifice it has to be under your control. You control the decayed trigger on the stack but they control the creature so it wouldnt get sacrificed.
Yes, this is some of my argument. We play for fun, the interaction between players and the smack we talk....If you just want to win....well play competitive commander a game of 5 minutes or 5 hours no middle Ground....
@@apophis456 why not? You attack, the delayed trigger goes on the stack, you deal damage, then with the decayed trigger goes on the stack, you give the creatures back. Is it because you no longer control them so they stay on your opponents' boards?
@@TheGrifcannon22 true, they also retain decayed so they can’t block and if they attack they die. Homeward path is still a good card in the deck, just not broken lol

Dictate of Erebos ~13, Grave Pact ~35, and Pitiless Plunderer ~13 are quite a bit above .25, I need the Jumbo Commander hookup!
yeah, id love to buy those for .25 xD

I rarely attack with my decayed creatures from Gissa. I take value pieces that don’t need to attack or block
I just assume the deck list will be in the next video or someting since it's not here yet.
Priest of the forgotten gods. If your going tolose them anyway might as well profit off of them
Please don’t forget many of the aristocrat strategies are turned off by gisa. Her replacement effect turns off death triggers as well.
