- On the latest episode of THE Podcast Daily, Bill Landis and Austin Ward begin their position-by-position look at the current roster makeup and the outlook for the coming seasons with a breakdown of the Ohio State quarterbacks. The room is absolutely loaded for the Buckeyes and more talent is on the way, so the question is how Ryan Day will manage the passers moving forward.

One small pet peeve: can we stop saying QB power and QB counter? Chip Kelly does not call a QB run game. He calls RPO. Completely different scheme and skill set.
It’s just an example to how the QB will be used differently and need to be physically ready for that. Y’all get bent out of shape for anything
Have you worked for or with Chip Kelly?? if not your thoughts are worthless
@@taxisquad11 I have installed and run Chip’s offensive system. I have sat in on no less than 6 of his coaching clinic sessions.
Here are some notes and a direct quote from his clinic in April:
Kelly uses the RPO to protect the run game and his preference is to have the RB run on all read/option run plays. As he puts it, "if I wanted the QB to run the ball, I would call a QB run"....the idea isn't to have the QB run 22 times a game as that is not sustainable….he simply uses the threat of the QB to help "block" that extra defender in the run game.
Is that good enough for you?!
And... it's a Great Day to be a Buckeye!!
Let's hope so! 😂
@@AkronKid330it better be or Day is truly in trouble.
Stop approaching this like we’re scared. We shouldn’t be scared of anybody, period.
@@jimmy5634 I personally don't lIke.Day as our coach.
❤ Always go bucks!
@@jimmy5634 Only you, a know nothing nobody, says that
The offensive line has to be ready to go.
Nothing works if they’re not playing at the top of their game as a unit.
Off back one thing I noticed will Howard pocket presence is much more better then Kyle McCord I think that will make a big difference
@Javonemeriweat's comments are huge if true. Lack of pocket presence(major McCord issue) leads to turnovers highly likely. If you don't feel the pressure, you're not likely to be protecting the ball , which trumps all factors in critiquing QBs.
Not so much pocket presence it's Howard's athletic ability and talent that changes things from last season
@@allensaunders449 it’s both what do you mean even in the spring game and his film from Kansas state he avoided so many snaps on the other then Kyle McCord was terrible at that I agree his athleticism changes things but pocket presence is a big factor
@@javonemeriweather1077 McCord wasn't terrible he wasn't what you thought he would be and he was CJ Stroud. I like Howard we will see how it goes. But it's his athletic ability that really sets him apart
Ohio t and Oregon have alot if QBs on the team. 5 each I think. Plus both programs have a Big QB coming in next year. Something has got to give my guess acouple front each program will be gone. You will have very high QB play now and in the future
If Devin doesnt win the job, maybe he needs to go elsewhere. If hes better, i dont feel any obligation to Howard. As far as Lincoln goes, i think he'll play pro football one day. However, if Sayin is thought of as better he may need to move on too. As far as Air goes, if Sayin is above him he may look into other options as well. Tavien St. Clair is coming '25 and may be the best of all of them. He could work behind Sayin if Sayin is what im thinking he is. After that its St. Clair time.
We need Mac Jones, thats it... And I think Will Howard is a better Mac Jones.
The "fans" thoughts are worthless when it comes to players.
Can we please stop saying DB has a running skill set, we have not seen that utilized effectively at all.
I mean ya he’s hardly played
I think Howard is going to be so good for us. I have a weird feeling about him. He can do so much with the ball. Our Oline will be the issue. I think Howard will have to run a lot being under pressure, but he'll make it happen! I don't know why people are still in question about who the starter is going to be. It's Howard!
I think our O line will be fine.
Will Howard is the perfect QB for this years team. He has that moxie to win, whether by pas or running the ball. He will distribute to Wr;s and RB's. He's perfect!
This is why people call us soft and I’m tired of it.
Myth-again ain’t worried about their QB room and they should be.
Let’s talk like we should. We have a damn good QB room and the coach who supposedly develops QB’s.
We have two great running backs and a glut of high-powered receivers.
There is no reason to think any of our QB’s can’t run this offense and run it at a high level.
If that doesn’t happen, there’s truly something wrong at the top.
Did you watch last season’s bowl game ?
Did our QB’s look ready to you ?
LMAO
@@13kimosabi13Our season long starter left us. Our backup got hurt almost immediately.
Our true freshman developmental product didn’t look great when he was pressured on 50% of passes. That shouldn’t surprise anyone.
Also we have 3 new QBs since then two of whom were 5 stars and another who was the second best transfer QB in the country.
@@thomasclark7254
All very good points BUT => Jimmy’s comment was => There is no reason to think any of our QB’s can’t run our offense and run it at a high level => AND CLEARLY THERE IS……
You actually => with your excuses => made my point for me……as did the Missouri bowl game snafu…….thanks !

👃🏻 hmmmmmmm good morning ladies 🐟
I can't believe you aren't speaking of the step up of Julian Sayin during camp
He's a skinny freshman who needs a year of work with Coach Mick
With all the acquisitions, analysis, hype and planning it's frightening that Devon Brown is the leading candidate. Is that the sum total of all that effort resulting in a less than elite QB ? That's not a knock on the players but on the process.
Devon Brown IS NOT the "leading candidate"
I always wondered, what if Devin Brown wins the job plays good we win the natty but he doesn’t play good enough to declare and then he comes back. What would that mean for Air, Julian, and Lincoln. Especially with TSC coming in.
He'd leave for the draft if he could especially if we won a natty. He wouldn't make the drafting mistake 12 gauge did
@@phillip4buckeyes4life I’m just saying what if it’s like a Stetson Bennet situation. We have 2 1st round backs that can really take the load off a QB. All he has to do is game manage. If he’s not Superman he’d 100% come back especially with 2 more years of eligibility
@@Lonnie2k you raise a great point. But I think he'd go to draft whether he played great or just held things together Devin is mad confident and would lean on the ship and say I got a ship and I'll bet better on the NFL
@@phillip4buckeyes4life it’s a problem we’d have to tackle once we got there, but I’d be real curious to see how it played out.
What if?????
Bill, you forgot Tavien St. Claire in '25... not that I disagree with you on Sayin however Tavien has a rather unique situation being that he'll have a significant coaching edge coming into his freshman season than most. In fact he will have been coached by OSU coaches for longer than returning freshman and pretty close to the same amount as even Keinholz. Food for thought.
I assure you he did not forget him.
Also Kienholz has been coached so much more than Tavien.
Kienholz has an entire season. All August with multiple practices a week, and the season which was 13 weeks with practice 3 days a week + walkthroughs and dozens of meetings + bowl prep being the backup.
In addition to this past spring this fall camp and this year.
Tavien will have a head start on other Freshman QBs in the country. The week he spent in meetings won’t put him on the same level as someone who will have played 2 years of CFB.
St. Claire has not signed with Ohio State yet
@@thomasclark7254 I'm just saying that TSC has had significant more coaching than most guys in his position will have had coming into their freshman season. He's essentially been in the program in a sense, since the time Keinholz has arrived. So while Keinholz has loads more practical reps he hasn't had much more tutoring. So therefore he kinda did forget him. He could theoretically be in the conversation next season, albeit at pretty low odds. But let's say the right scenario unfolds TSC could be the starter. Therefore should be considered to some small extent.
@@taxisquad11 I think it's fair to assume he will, doesn't hurt to consider him until something changes. I mean this is a purely hypothetical scenario for everyone at this point because anyone could be here or gone.
@@willjay921 BUT a sports journalist can never make assumptions or his worth is compromised
Come on…..at least be honest => JTB-IV couldn’t pass accurately downfield……Dwayne wasn’t mobile……CJ refused to utilize his elite running skill and Devin is fragile…….and as good as Fields was => both Lawrence and Burrow were better.
Add in Day’s softness and lack of understanding about so many basic football issues and we’ve been fortunate to delusionally believe he was a better coach than he actually is.
My hope is OUR ABUNDANCE OF ELITE TALENT THIS YEAR => can win in spite of Day’s limitations.
Ignorance of Ryan Day. He was an undersized tough as nails college football QB. He had 16 years of coaching experience in college and the NFL, when Urban hired him. He was known as one of the bright young minds in football at 35. YOU are a know nothing nobody. in comparison
@@taxisquad11
Sycophants (Suck-o-fans) like you get triggered pretty easily.
You might want to check if it’s time to take your medication.
Since you have Day figured out, who would you rather have as HC? Give a list of your top 5 and a brief synopsis of why they're better than Day.
@@Kemeticthought
Your question is asinine and reveals your daft and clueless BOXLIKE THINKING.
What % of Buckeye Nation would you venture to say KNEW RYAN DAY before he came to Ohio State? Jim Tressel ? Earle Bruce ? And let’s say 7-10% knew one or more of those 3 => would any of those folks had them in their top 5 ?
Besides => thinking the archaic way you do leads to the same old archaic results.
I have 25 or so possible coaches in mind => but wrong answers to a few simple questions would knock them out of the job and I’d have to look at another 25.
But as a guess => I might find 1-3 with promise.
Day has the interaction skills
Urban had results
Tress had the kind of actions and vision
None of those guys would be my choice today…..and several coaches would => and you’d be none the wiser until we won multiple Natty’s.
PS. I would have chosen the guy who would have played Joe Burrow for 3 years…..I still would.
@@Kemeticthought Easy for losers to say get rid of Day , but they NEVER know who would be better. Especially after all of Day's good players enter the portal and the players committed decommit. Those fools do not care if it's ten years of John Cooper all over again
