I got one from Japan 2.2 diesel auto 4wd and drove from London, UK to Fez, Morocco. It was a fantastic car had lots of fun with it. This car would go anywhere.
I'm in the UK and my parents had a 1995 Townace Super Extra from 2003 - 2005, they loved it. It was very good quality and ahead of its year. They bought the Townace from a car sales place that imports these types of vehicles from Japan and sells them in the UK. They then bought a 1996 Toyota Granvia from there in 2006 after having a 2001 or 2002 Citroen Berlingo.
Wow, It's still in quite good condition! I have the '92 High Roof Grand Extra with the petrol engine version. It is a very very tough car and comfortable drive handling
Man people in Japan are van mad, or at least they were in the early 90's. Lets see, Toyota had the Lite-Ace, Hi-Ace, Town Ace, Previa, Estima, just to name a few of the vans Toyota made in that era. Not to mention all the different trim options, body lengths, roof heights, mid-engined gas or diesel options, rwd or 4wd, some were forward control, just a million different options.
The overheating on these is a defect in the head gasket, same with previa 2.2 diesels. That is the root cause, replacing your coolant might help a little but ultimate fix is new head and new designed gasket.
i've seen one of these a long time ago here in the Netherlands, i don't know if they were sold over here but i have seen 1 and never seen one after that but i thought it was pretty outstanding in a interesting way between the Ford Transit, VW Vito-Caddy and Transporter along with some Peugeot Partner and jumpy/jumper vans that i usually see
Very similar to mine except mine's 2wd with the GXL trim. Currently sitting at 62k km. Oddly enough the radio turns on, and dont even get static. The ac works only with a bypass switch.
25 year policy is a rolling year policy (every year that was 25 years ago so it being 2021, 1996 was 25 years ago) applies to vehicles that are not legally produced for the U.S. American market because of emissions standards or safety regulations or both that did not align with those in the U.S. now become legal to import, possess, own, register and drive on U.S. roads because the vehicle's become so old the standards no longer apply.
If anyone has a fusebox diagram for these I would be forever in your debt! I just bought one but the fuse box covers are missing and no service manual. Any info would help feel free to message me. Thank you!

in 90s toyota was far ahead then the rest . even still !
I wouldn't grease the tailgate, I love that sound.
I would hate trying to find replacement glass for that roof.
OMG! Such a great condition for car this ages!

Is it just me or is Derek getting worse at noticing approaching traffic?
Why is it now not produced in such a car body? It was beautiful and good car)
Great video. Thanks, you have done justice to the car
Danm, this car looks like something from the 2000s, Toyota was ahead of their time designing this
Looks like the missing link between the 1989 Toyota Van and the 1990 Toyota Previa.
It does. I have an estima 94 and it was interesting to see how this is almost the same thing just a bit bigger

Don't forget the Regeus and Alphard!
There was also the Townace Noah released in 1996, also the Granvia from the same era.

What is that 25 year import policy ? What is the newest Toyota van which can be imported to the States ?

Do you think the door speaker grilles look really odd?
Hey can you import and drive RHD vehicles in the US? So that's legal then?
Murica has 50+ states, some less crazy than others. It shouldn't be a problem but ... how could someone know da law in 50+ states?
As long as it's 25 years old or older, you're good to go in the United States
