Ah Pam, it has been wonderful to discover you at this site. I lost you when I couldn’t find you on the televised rodeos. My two sisters and i have fond memories of you and your sister, and her children, when we were both losing our Dads at the hospital. I hope your life has gone well for all of you in your lives.. when I was a teen I taught several horses to drive. My buggy still hangs in my sister’s barn. Tell your sister we remember you both, helping each other through a terrible time.
These critters are something else. They don't even need cued up. They are listening and as soon as they hear that click of that latch on the tree they know it's time to boogie, and they do.
Luckily the draft horses I've seen love people and are a hoot! They are the most beautiful animals on the planet, and the most honest. They deserve the best lives possible.
Draft horses are awesome creatures. I have been to a few pulls and their sheer size and strength amazes me. No offense to the good folks in Florida who organize the nation pull, but I would much rather see a sled with stones added. I think its a accurate barometer of and for testing strength
My dad pulled horses for my years. He never laid a hand on them. Some pullers are abusive to their horses. Others are not. The abusive ones have a reservation in hell.
Modern drafts have been bred mainly for the show ring, and are not necessarily gentle. I had a Clydesdale that was like a doubleweight Arabian. Pulls are great to watch. Here in Ontario,we're supposed to stay quiet, no applause, but it takes restraint.
They are more powerful. Even hitch-bred Belgians can't compete with these specialists. Look up tire des poneys to see another side. Per pound they are probably stronger, but you have to harness more animals.
my favorite team is the horses that are all dark brown in color and displayed as a team at the beginning of this (intro) clip- their name escapes me but maybe later on I'll remember the brand of horse it is-(these horses are absolutely gorgeous)
Wow what a horse pull i could totaly se a farmer using this as his vacation only time he can getaway and. Not worry about their anamals because this vavation they take them on vacation
I have seen a man take 220 volts to a pair of heavy ponies to get them to pull. When the guy touched the wrong wires he got t he same treatment that he gave his ponies. I told him so too. Pissed me off to have someone do that to a animal.
thought alfalfa was bad 4 drafts; i hae 19hh belgian and 18hh percheron notice no women...if i put a bag of stable mix infront of gluteus maximus he could pull a tank
No, that's the only for some TB owners. Once retires these horses live a nice life usually on the barn and in the pasture or used for little trail rides.
Mr. Yoder may be a millionaire but I will bet my last dollar that's hes the most down to earth and humble man you will ever meet. I've been to his place In KY and spent a few days there and he treated me with the up most respect! If you didnt know he was a millionaire you couldn't ever tell it by his actions!! Very nice man!!
I agree, because I'm quite certain they would prefer to have their tails ripped off and leave a bloody stump, if they happen to foul in the equipment/harness. Its not like they're docked just to look pretty......
I want to put that lardo in harness and see how much HE can pull. I've been around horses all my life (so far) and really don't like to see these "pulling contests" at all. I regard it as abuse.
These horses are cared for better than some human beings. Massage, chiropractor, vets, medicines....these are top athletes, and they are bred for work. I have thoroughbreds, and they are extremely unhappy when they don’t have a job. They love to preform, and love to compete. Abuse us a strong word, and completely wrong here. Is it abuse to compete dogs in the Iditarod? Is it abuse when farmers opt to log and farm with horses rather than tractors? They are made for this, bred for this, trained for this and conditioned for this. Maybe go throw some shade at the racing industry, where abuse actually is happening.
@@wholeNwon Really? You want to compare the kidnapping, entrapment and enslavement of an entire race of human beings so horses and dogs? They are animals!!! Have a little perspective and thought behind this absolute lunacy! Animals have been domesticated and used for work for thousands of Years. Do you have pets? Do you want them on leashes? train them? have them obey you? Keep them fenced or in containment? Horses are work animals, they are meant to preform and to function as a working animal. A lot of dogs are worn animals, and both are completely unhappy when they are sedentary and bored. How asinine to compare the enslavement of an entire race of human beings to that of domesticated animals.
My grandfather humanly 😅pulled Belgiums and my family has continued that history. They are amazing. Must be valued and Loved!
What a true joy watching these gentle giants ❤❤
Beautiful Draft horses. Used to watch them while living in Michigan.
Love the big Drafts. These are well cared for athletes.
Also, Pam is a gorgeous woman. ;-)
Thank you for the video. I love to see these big guys pull, they are awesome. 👏👏👍
12:47 that black percheron is a stunner! Look at him. He knows he’s strut worthy. 😊

So many beauties here. I love drafts. Now that I live in Florida, I’ll have to go see this competition in person.
Love this and used to watch the Horse Pulling when I was a kid. Love IT! Thank You!

How do the harnesses stand up to the heavy weights? Don't they snap? Or do they chains or cables?
My dad pulled horses for my years. He never laid a hand on them. Some pullers are abusive to their horses. Others are not. The abusive ones have a reservation in hell.
Pam, does Budweiser ever compete in the indoor 8 hitch team completions? I enjoy all your videos.
I am not sure when that challenge was mad but you know both men were drunk.
Number 18 is a giant. I'm completely gobsmacked.
When is the next event?
I may be confused bur aren't they also pulling the truck too?
There are some mares in Netherlands that have chests bigger than most of these horses!
Show us

These poor ladies at the beginning make smiling look painful lol
All I'm thinking thats going through their heads is ahhh my cheeks hurt 🤣
Que raza son ? Me gustan mucho
Never seen a dynamometer..how does that work.. easier on the horse to get the load moving, verses a sled ?
Yes, it measures true horsepower output with a system of springs
How come Shires are never seen on Gentle Giants?
14:55 there must have been a better way to word that one
Modern drafts have been bred mainly for the show ring, and are not necessarily gentle. I had a Clydesdale that was like a doubleweight Arabian.

Not if trained right.
@@valeriebrunhoeber7934 I was referring to the basic temperament, which is often hot and excitable. Of course training modifies it.
Percheron power! Slocala represent!
None of them were percherons lmao
@@brianconroy7514 - One of them was a percheron.... LMAO!
How come only the same breeds of horses are used? I never see shires or clydesdales or other breeds. It's always the beige/tan colored plough horses

Se com a cabeça baixa puxam melhor, porquê a Gamarra?
Favorite horse are the clysdales. Live by stlouis. Budweiser plant and fancy stables. And grants farm
They are beautiful but not a good puller...
my favorite team is the horses that are all dark brown in color and displayed as a team at the beginning of this (intro) clip- their name escapes me but maybe later on I'll remember the brand of horse it is-(these horses are absolutely gorgeous)
Belgians?
Isn't it amazing, they must spend a fortune dyeing the roots of their hair black.... fuckin' awesome
The king can do whatever he wants, silly!
Belgian horses are not mentioned here...strange.....
Those Sorrels are for sure Belgums 💘
Because it goes without saying... most of the horse in this videos are Belgians...
The only exception is the black horse, that's a Percheron.
Frisians weren't mentioned at all, Belgians were referred to and mentioned at least a handful of times.
Thease are the strongest besides the real champs are out in the woods. Pulling every day for a living
"pound for pound the biggest horses we've ever seen"
In her defense, she does look drunk.
Nice video
Ever tried to give them their heads and lose the check? I’ll guess that you get a few feets more if you try and the horses can pull properly...
A quaera é muito bem feita muito boa.
Heavy weights...BIG BOYS.
so beautiful and BIG
Wow what a horse pull i could totaly se a farmer using this as his vacation only time he can getaway and. Not worry about their anamals because this vavation they take them on vacation
Thinking-out-loud: If I had a team in competition, my DRIVER`d be a 105 pound WOMAN---not a 250-300+ man...
Those horses struggled to pull that.
I have seen a man take 220 volts to a pair of heavy ponies to get them to pull. When the guy touched the wrong wires he got t he same treatment that he gave his ponies. I told him so too. Pissed me off to have someone do that to a animal.
I agree. What some people to do animals is a shame. I disliked this video.
Now, all the naysayers and activists should see this .

I'm sure when they break down or get too old it's off to the auction and get sold off to the killers.
No, that's the only for some TB owners. Once retires these horses live a nice life usually on the barn and in the pasture or used for little trail rides.
Unfortunately, that's true for many breeds of horses.

Those draft horses are beautiful. To use them for important purposes is amazing. But using them for entertainment is bad and abusive.
How is that bad?
Work is not torture. Ask an Olympic athlete how much they hate their sport.
Why is it bad to you? And where do you see the abuse here? Get educated
