£3 per week - or £156 a year charging costs fine but one BIG failure is the battery as to be rented at £45 to £67 a month you gotta be kidding me mate?
You can get the Twizy with an owned battery, (so no rental)otherwise yes it doesn’t make sense financially, still fun though even if you are paying that stupid rental.

Andy, with regards to tyres my understanding is when viewed from above the tread needs to be covered by the arch.
As for Vosa not noticing that, clearly there target wasn't for that for that day, an MOT person should pick that up and fail it with how it was. If they don't and they got VOSA spot tested on the day the tester would get points on the MOT cert.
As for your new arches I'd bring the front arches down a little further so the spray doesn't kick up towards the windows.

Checked this out with a good mate of mine who's an MOT tester, For MOT's it doesn't matter. With/without arches he said he'd pass it as there is no requirements for him to check it as part of a test.
Twizy’s are legally a quad bike, so I think different laws apply.

I want to buy a Twizy but I don't have a garage and I'm not sure if it will survive outside in a uk winter..?
I love the Twizzy. I recently converted my Mountain Jump bike to electric.
I did a lot of research as it was my first 'toe in the water' of electric conveyances, looked at lots of reviews and found the simplest and cheapest method was buying an 'i Mortor' wheel, and was easy to install, take out the old wheel and put it in, position the accelerator on the handle bars, zip tie the cables and off you go.... There's a phone app for phones for you to record data and if mounted, on the handle bars shows you speed, and enables gear changing, though I leave it in third, and without using the phone, that's the default setting. It has a 10 mile range, pulls me up hills like a dream. I only use the bike for work, and get where I have to go on one charge, but I do carry a spare battery, just in case. Replacing the battery, which is situated in the wheels hub is easy and quick. Had it a year now in all weathers, and clocked up over a thousand miles.
I used to be heavily into Lambrettas and the mudguard is very similar to the Rear on a Lambretta, I would have a bracket made ( Like an L with the longer end curved to go over the width of the mudguard and then bolt on to the Chassis, The problem with mudguards is that they need to be on and tight without any Flex as they will probably work themselves loose over time..................Love the Twizy
That's great to hear you didn't get pulled for the wheels Andy. I'm fairly confident that my Twizy wouldn't get pulled for the same after just fitting my wider wheels if I only use it in the dry. I think in the wet it will draw a lot more attention to the issue with spray so for now I'll stick to dry driving. Interested to see how you get on with the mud guards. I'm just at that stage. Still loving the Vlogs! Keep up the good work :-)
yh i think the police concerned more about dickhead boy racers in their ricemobiles TBH, they the ones actually killing people on the roads
A question: with that Powerbox you can "unlock" a Twizy 45 to get its full speed (was around 70-80km/s)?
Also, you did a video about battery replacements or modded batteries?
As that's around 7 x earth's escape velocity I don't think so.
I love your Twizy videos Andy - did you ever look into modding the doors to open electrically from an outside remote fob? Any idea how to best do that?

It's not compulsory to have wheel arches you can put wider wheels in and bigger wheel as king had it does not compromise the steer or suspension. How could fit be an mot failure. There no test for wheel arches

Just subscribed as found your videos whilst researching the Twizy and think they are ace. Thinking about the Twizy for my work commute which is roughly 16 miles each way, however it is super busy during rush hour, usually taking 1 hour to cover the 16 miles. I would say a good 80% of the route is sat in traffic. The return journey also has lots of uphill. Would you say this will kill the battery? I cannot charge at work, so would need to get there and back on one charge.
The twizy should do this easy If most of the route is 30mph, if it’s on dual carriageway then it will decrease the range quite a lot. You’ll use more power uphill. In winter the range decreases due to cold weather but if you put your car on a smart plug and have it start the charge a few hours before you leave in the morning then the battery will be warm when you leave so it wouldn’t be so much of an issue.

Hi Andy don't normally comment but followed you a while now I'm thinking of getting a twizy will be my first electric car was wondering how the public charge points work if ya charging away from home and how much it would cost to charge it on one of those and also the time it takes.
Not sure if they all different tarrifs or what.

Hi, glad you like the videos, for public charging you need a type 2 adapter which has a plug socket on one end, they are about £150 from evbitz. You can then use polar and some chargemaster points. Polar operates using a subscription at about £7 per month, some others are free. It takes the same amount of time to charge on one of those points than it would at home. (3-4 hours from 0%) best to use them as a top up if you are visiting somewhere and you have below 50% remaining, that’s what I do 😁

If you search for the "Oakley design" twizy they did some special F1 inspired ones and they dont have mud flaps. And I'm pretty sure they are MOT compliant, especially when they are 30k lol

Andy, can you stick a bigger battery in the twizy with that BMS?
Yes, it will allow you to use any battery that can supply enough power. In order to fit a bigger battery (for more range) you need a custom battery box that maximises the space under the twizy.
@@andykirby if someone wanted to use the back seat also for the battery, as long as its secured properly, i take it that would not be an issue

Because it is a quadricycle I don’t think it needs to have the wheels covered unlike a car. It should pass an MOT like that without a problem.
