Jacob simply became a product of natural selection. He was thrown in a pit with violent animals. Not only did he manage to survive, but he also managed to be a king among them. As tragic as what happened to him, his overall determination, resiliency and desire to survive toughened him up for better or worse
My one and only complaint about Shot Caller is that we never get to see Jacob become institutionalised. We never really get to the point where he’s comfortable inside and content to stay there forever. So his decision to go back in the end seems confusing and depressing more than a natural conclusion to his journey.
That one instant completely changed his whole life. I know what that’s like at 21 I was in school. Did really good on a test went to a party and some guy got hurt after that I ended up in prison for 10 years.
Best prison movie since Blood in Blood Out, 9.5 of 10......from an x-con and O.G. in my zone, pretty damned good entertainment. But, the movie compared to reality.....his first 10 years really only took 2 hours, my 15 was fifteen years long!!!!!! Big Difference
@TrevorTaylor-p1e I guess that any prison film is going to have trouble depicting that amount of time condensed down to fit the runtime. I need to watch Blood In Blood Out now that it's been recommended by someone that knows!
i was in prison in Florida for a few years, and ever since then ive had this "thing" about knives being used in movies or even video games, but the scenes in this movie that used knives were pretty good. and i mean, how far would u go to protect your family. . .

Truly Money is a top notch handle but Magic... well, he was a great character and one big bloody man.
What's your favourite prison movie?
Brawl in cell block 99 in a great flick!
@db8694 Agreed! Will be reviewing Zahlers stuff in future for sure!
@CalsCinema I shared an email correspondence with him for a short while. Very nice man. Have you read his books?
@db8694 Just now learning he also is an author! I'll have to check those out. Talented guy!
Felon(2008) is pretty good but shot caller is just great.
