We've had a few requests to react to the Proton R5 Rally Car, so here it is! If you'd like to help support our channel and subscribe to our Patreon, the link it below :) / thecommodity
Not used to... It is using 4b11t downstroke from 2.0 to 1.6liter engine... Actually many R5 and AP4 category car were using 4b11t as base engine package.. (rules in FIA R5 category does allow that)
@@AmirPomen sorry bro, have to correct you on that.. it doesn't use the 4b11t. why? because that engine is not homologated as part of Proton's family of engines. The Iriz R5 uses the base 4b11 from the Inspira. the engines are supplied to MEM directly from Proton.
Proton does things exactly like a British carmaker ie MG Rover ,Austin and Jaguar ...like eventho thier cars may not be as reliable as the Competitor but when it goes racing it just wins ...like when the R5 Iriz first outing at the Goodwood Forest Rally ...it won first place which shocked everyone there ...
R5 refers to a category of rally car that is specified by the world motorsports body, the FIA who draws up all the rules, technical and safety specifications. It is the 2nd tier within the World Rally hierarchy with the WRCar category regarded as the Formula 1 of rally cars. R5 replaces the S2000 category rally car. (you guys already featured the Satria Neo S2000). To qualify for R5, a car manufacturer (FIA only recognises car manufacturers) must be involved in a Homologation process with the FIA which goes into the technical details of the car, in this case, the Iriz (must have 25,000 production minimum) which then leads up to the actual R5 rally car. Once completed and certified, the IRiz R5 can compete in any FIA sanctioned around the world that has an R5 rally category. This ensures a best possible level playing field and adherence to the rules and technical specifications. So in theory, all R5 cars from manufacturers like Hyundai, Ford, Citroen, VW, Skoda, Proton and so on are more or less, equal in performance for fairness.
Wow the Proton Iriz R5 MEM rally car ...... yes this was in Wales ... the car is powered by a chopped Mitsu Evo 2L that was rebuilt to 1.6L as per relegation in British Rally Championship
no. it does not. the Iriz R5 uses a 4b11 engine, which is exactly as found in the Proton Inspira 2ltr. The engines are homologated with the FIA and inspections are done by FIA staff from France at Proton in Malaysia. Engines are supplied to MEM directly from Proton.
Mellors Elliot Motorsport began developing the Iriz R5 rally car in 2016, and it is powered by a 4B11T engine from the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, albeit in reduced capacity from 2.0 litres to 1.6 litres to comply with R5 rally regulations. Also in order to comply with R5 regulations is the fitment of a 32 mm intake restrictor, which limits outputs to around 350 hp and 450 Nm of torque. The R5 category rally cars are versatile too, as they are also eligible for the European Rally Championship (ERC) and WRC qualifying rounds such as the British Rally Championship (BRC). R5-specification cars may also compete in the Asia Pacific Rally Championship (APRC) in the AP4 category. paultan.org/2020/08/19/proton-iriz-r5-brochure-revealed-tarmac-and-gravel-kits-running-costs-detailed-priced-from-rm776000/
Race spec 4B11T Evo 10 reduced to 1.6cc, MEM chose this engine because the exhaust manifold is facing rearwards (firewall) and creates a shorter exhaust system. as compared to the existing campro.
Guys when you come to Malaysia and tell Proton to Make performance version of the Proton Iriz ....they should as it looks like this little car can do anything and mean Anything... Even the 3rd Gen Saga can be turned into a performance car
Well it may be a taller car then the rivals but the Iriz wins every time it enters any race be it Rallying,Gymkana,Touring Car Racing and Time Attack events
Rally is like driving to the limits with a powerful engine hatchback at the public roads full of spectators. It's like time attack but on gravel or muds.
Next video may i suggest you guys to search for Converted Proton cars and you'll see how Malaysian car enthusiast goes on converting a Proton back to Mitsubishi because most of Proton models since 1980's-2002 is based on Mitsubishi cars as there was a join venture between Proton and Mitsubishi back then.😀
hi Miles & Phezz.. just some suggestion.. maybe you can add some background music when you talk especially at the starting & ending of the video.. thanks..
you can if you can afford it. its for sale to anyone. but of course, its sole purpose is for entry into FIA sanctioned rally events. in Asia, the best option is the Asia Pacific Rally Championship.
@@TheCommodity Subaru motorsports usa have their own youtube channel. They released alot of documentary style videos about the rally competition they participated in. Pastrana drives for them. You guys should check those videos out if you haven't. Cheers!

The Proton Iriz R5 uses Proton Inspira's (Rebadged Mitsubishi Lancer GT) engine (Mitsubishi 4B11) and was tuned. It's not an EvoX engine technically.
