We were supposed to get underway on HAL Koningsdam, out of Fort Lauderdale on Sunday March 15 for a 44 day cruise around South America, ending in San Diego. We got word from HAL on Friday March 13, about 2 hours after Big Chito's announcement that passengers could not embark for 30 days. We were very lucky that we hadn't yet left for the airport ,SFO, when we got word of our cancellation. Many passengers were not so lucky and were already in Fort Lauderdale. There was a large contingent of Australians that had made the long trip from down under to the big Senior Center state only to learn on arrival that the cruise had been cancelled. A long way to travel to be disappointed, like so many others in the same boat. We did get the 100% refund promise (HAL is slammed. Tells our TA that it could take up to 60 days to see our money). We were also given 125% FCC. The trouble with the FCC as of right now, the number of available cruises and cabin types are getting more limited everyday since so many people are rebooking cruises using their FCC. After reading what passengers on the Zaandam are going through, this very naive 4Star couple (" Corona virus is like the flu and is harder to spread than the Noro virus") feel very fortunate and extremely lucky that we did not get underway. Our NCL cruise on the Jewel for April 3, was canceled and we received a 125% FCC. We have already used the FCC to book another similar itinerary in February 2021 for about the same price. We are hoping the ships will be sailing. If not, I don’t think the industry will survive. I always have been a gambler.
Hi George, thanks for watching. I think the cruise lines are planning strategies as if this is going to last longer, not shorter. I'd like to think cruises would start in some regions before the end of this summer, but no one knows for certain. Glad you found another cruise to replace the one that was canceled. #KeepOnCruising
Total no brainer for us. 200% future cruise credit! Rebooked before the FCC had even been processed. The wash up is that out of our own pocket we needed to pay $759 USD p/p twin share for an 11 night cruise in December in a Balcony room with a premium drink package thrown in. That included all fees, taxes, port charges as well as all onboard gratuities prepaid. We even got $100 OBC
Hi Wayne, thanks for watching. Which cruise line gave you 200% FCC? Were you on a cruise that was canceled last minute or one that was shortened while cruising?
Talking Cruise we were booked with P&O Australia departing March 29.. They announced they were cancelling cruises until April 12. The FCC wouldn't cover deposit, taxes fees or port charges.. They then announced a sale with $49 deposits and one of the fare options included the premium drinks package. Carnival and RCCL owned cruise lines sailing from Australia also have onboard gratuities included as part of your advertised fare price. So got extra lucky in that our FCC could be used to cover gratuities and the premium drinks package.
We are booked on iona for a weeks cruise to the fjords in june,up to now P&O are saying that all cruises should resume after 15th May also been told if anything changes they will inform all passengers .Lets hope we can get back to normal after 15th May.
Hi Tricia, thanks for watching. I hopw yo cruise sails as scheduled. Not sure how realistic it will be for cruises to be able to start back in May, but here's to hoping!
Our May 10 Oasis cruise is definitely slipping away. We should get 2,900 I'm future cruise credit. Will rebook for Sept even though I swore last year we wouldn't sail in hurricane season. We will get 2 cruises out of it though. September this year and then next spring. Great vid my friend.
@@TalkingCruise always a silver lining I agree. We will pull through this, together we will pull through this. We will cruise again. I wouldn't give up cruising, no way. You and your family please stay safe. Think positive as I do. I'm concerned but optimistic.

We have not been able to contact HAL to cancel and the date to do so passes in 2 days but we can't get through.
Hi D H, thanks for watching. I suspect you'll hear this week from HAL about further cancelations through mid-May. Unless there is a specific reason, don't cancel on your own, wait for them to officially cancel your cruise or you'll lose the ability to get a full refund. This is a game they are playing to hold onto as much cash as they can.
Cash is king. Credits don't do any good if they don't get back to normal. Its like buying a new model car. Do you want to be the first . Plus the cruise industry is just going to raise prices not only on the cruises but expect to pay more for everything on board. Our April Princess cruise was canceled. I just want my money back. We have been on 14 cruises. Going to be many years before I will trust cruise ships.
Hi gman77gas, thanks for watching. Everyone needs to make their own personal choice, but at least the cruises lines are offering the option to get a full refund.
@@TalkingCruise I had a Singapore cruise cancelled in March. Princess gave a 100% refund, however they sent it to my travel agent (Flight Centre). The travel agent will not refund the money to me and are holding back the refunds from about 1600 customers that had trips cancelled. I bet they go broke and we will all lose our money. Not Princess's fault. Also have a cruise around the Mediterranean booked for July with the same travel agent. Will probably lose that money too (AU$16,000.00). '
Hi Michelle, thanks for watching. Odyssey of the Seas is still under construction with a planned launch for November. I would say March should be pretty safe even it gets delayed. Btw, I've noticed prices for March have been going up recently, so don't wait too long.
I’m booked for April 16 on the Carnival Miracle out of San Francisco to go on a 15 day Hawaii cruise. Really getting annoyed that Carnival hasn’t contacted me to give me an idea of if they will be back and running or if the Cruises will go longer for the shutdown. I live in Ohio and have a flight the day before to go to California so I hope I don’t find out it’s canceled after I fly out. My flight keeps getting changed around too so I would love to know ASAP so I could cancel my flight and my hotel in San Francisco if the cruise ain’t going to happen April 16. I hate being in limbo not knowing when the cruise is quickly approaching. This was supposed to be an awesome cruise for me and my husband’s 10th anniversary and then all this covid-19 stuff happened. 😕
Your cruise will be cancelled. The number of covid cases worldwide will be over 1 million by the weekend and probably over 100 million by April 16 so no one is going anywhere that soon. I know it sucks - I was supposed to go on April 21 myself. I guess it's time to give the house a good clean.
Hi Sunni, I'm in the same predicament but I did receive email from Carnival stating that ... "Guests booked on sailings departing April 1 to May 31 can move your booking to future date by March 31" Check your emails. You supposed to receive similar email if you put your email address while booking or doing online check in.
Hi Sunni, thanks for watching. I understand your frustration. Carnival did notify guests that they could reschedule a cruise departing between April 1 & May 31, 2020, however, if you go that route, you will most certainly lose your ability to get a full refund if they cancel your cruise, since you'll no longer be on that affected sailing. As far as the cruise lines officially canceling more sailings, I think it may come down to the end of the first phase of cancelations for them to make an extension official.
Hi North Paul, thanks for watching. I too believe the likely scenario is that there will be an extension in the pause in cruise line operations at least through April or May.
RCCL cancelled our cruise. Received email with options to get 125% FCC or refund; email included link to form to request refund, otherwise do nothing for 125% FCC. Filled out form in link to request refund, at the end a screen said I would get an email “shortly” (I assume it would include come type of confirmation code) and that refund would process in about 30 days. Well...it’s been over a week and have not gotten any email from RCCL yet. Additionally, partially purchased the cancelled cruise using FCC from a previously cancelled cruise (Hurricane Dorian)...and there’s no telling how that is going to be credited back. The Dorian FCC had an expiration date of September 2020. Still lots of uncertainty and chaos. As this drags on, it remains to be seen if my money & FCCs will get thrown into the fire if RCCL files for bankruptcy protection.
Hi Janet, there are many unknowns at this time as the situation evolves. I believe you should get the original FCC back and they may extend the expiration date. Just do your best to stay on top of it. I have the same situation with another cruise line. I'm not too concerned with bankruptcy, even if they do may be to reorganize things and will not make future cruises or credits useless. The cruise industry will survive this eventually.
Hi Talking Cruise, thank you for the video. I canceled my cruise a while ago due to the virus and they gave me partial refund and my non-refundable deposit will become my FCC. However, yester I received an email saying that since the company is canceling my cruise, i have option to get full refund or 100% FCC. Is this new offered FCC the same amount of the deposit? Please explain since I’m fairly new to their compensation policy. Thank you!
Hi NT Le, thanks for watching. Were you paid in full or just deposited on the canceled cruise? There are different rules between cruise lines and situations. Also, some companies will not allow you to take part in new offerings if you already canceled your cruise.
Talking Cruise I paid in full but when I canceled the cruise, I got part of my money back and some credit for the non-refundable deposits. I think I will get the credit as FCC and they rewarded me with $600 on board :)
Hi Skyy Skyy, thanks for watching. Sorry about the canceled cruise. You're just inside the cutoff for most cruise lines, but likely further cancelations to come.
I just got off the phone with Expedia and requested a full refund! She filled out my request forms from Norweigian! She said they have 90 damn days. I still have another cruise scheduled with Norweigian in Oct. I was only on hold for 5 min.
Hi Lily, thanks for watching. I'm also waiting for refund for one of my canceled cruises. Glad they were able to assist you so quickly. #KeepOnCruising
Schedule to take princess up to alaska in june. From what I been hearing that might not happened. How long do you think the Cruise Line will announce it offically?
Hi Robyn, thanks for watching. With Seattle suspended cruises and Canada restricting large ships through July 1st, Alaska looks iffy until at least Check to se if you yore cruise line is pushing back the final payment date on your voyage. I suspect any specific announcements on Alaska will come closer to the start of the season.
I have a 9 night Carnival Cruise scheduled for the end of May 2020 which has not yet been cancelled yet but I am positive that it will be cancelled. It is very difficult to get ahold either with the cruise line or the travel agency. I will wait it out and if it does go out then I will also or if it doesn’t and if they do cancel they will give me a full credit plus $600.00 extra as long as I go on another Carnival Cruise by December 31, 2021. Which I feel is a good deal.
Hi Melvin, thanks for watching. Carnival is one of only a couple of cruise lines offering the OBC if you don't request a refund. Hope things work out well for you!
I'm scheduled to sail on Carnival Sunshine on May 16. I'm going to wait it out and let them cancel is that's the case. But if it sails I'm going. I also have one booked for Explorer of the Seas jan 2021. That one should be ok. It's supposed to go into dry dock from March to may for royal amplification but I'm not sure if that's going to happen.
Hi Annette, thanks for watching. I'm hoping your May cruise goes on as planned. Explorer of the Seas planned dry dock has been put on hold, but I understand Royal Caribbean will try to get the work done at some point this year if possible.
Annette Byrd Carnival just told us, they’d take and hold $300, if we canceled. If they cancel us, I guess they have to give it all back. We sail the imagination on June 28th
Hi Carol, thanks for watching. I think Alaska cruises are looking unlikely until later in the Summer, perhaps July. Again, as I've said to many others, don't cancel your cruise, wait for the cruise line to do it or you'll lose the ability to get a refund.
Hi nyahmanis mommy, thanks for watching. It depends if you cancel while under penalty or with a non-refundable deposit program. If the cruise line cancels your cruise, they will offer a full refund as an option.
Get your refund, and get it ASAP. A credit for future cruises, even if it's like some sort of double-credit, will do you no good if the cruise company goes bankrupt. You'll just be in line with all the other creditors owed money. It's not out of the realm of possibility that some of the major cruise companies will go under before all this is over.
Hi roachtoasties, thanks for watching. Perhaps a possibility for some of the smaller independent companies, but the larger ones may restructure, cancel some future new builds and refurbishments. The cruise industry has been growing at an unprecedented rate over the last several years, with billions being spent on new ships, private destinations and ship refurbishments. Cruise lines have amassed a lot of debt, which may become an issue if this pandemic drags on.
Good advice! I would get an immediate refund because I suspect some of the cruise companies will not survive this crisis and then you will lose all your money! 🤭
Hi Mike, thanks for watching. I agree with taking the refund if you're looking to re-book further out. Most of the cruise lines will survive this, the smaller niche ones may have a tough time coming back.
The future of these companies is far from even wild speculation. Small restaurants and local businesses that can stick out the trauma are almost certain to snap back. People who were not financially strapped going into this will be anxious to go out to dinner, get an ice cream sundae and whatever else with a vengeance. And they will have an extra $1200 to help the economy with. But even diehard cruisers are going to be hurt by this financially. Parents will have to put more into college savings to make up for the setback. Retirees may have to postpone their plans. These companies are not going to need as many ships going forward.
Hi Della, thanks for watching. It really comes to business, they don't want to cancel cruises too far out and be in a situation where they are paying out refunds or FCC's with no positive cash flow. They also want to hold on to as much money as they can for as long as they can. We are almost half way through the original 30 days of canceled cruises. The cruise lines will likely wait until next week at the earliest to make any further changes. I suspect your departure date will be included in the second round of cancelations, but like all of us, you'll need to wait it out.
Hi Daryl, thanks for watching. I'm assuming they paid Carnival your money for the deposit and/or full payment? Unless you cancled the cruise yourself (before Carnival officially canceled it) you should be entitled to a refund it you wish. I'd reach out to Carnival to find out what is going on.
Hi Derek, thanks for watching. Are you still waiting to hear if your cruise has been canceled? At of today, it's likely all cruises through at least mid May will be canceled. But don't cancel the cruise yourself, wait for the cruise line to cancel it.
Take the money! Here's why! Most cruise lines are willing to give you up to 150% of what you paid. Sounds great right? Hold on, did you read that the credit goes towards a "basic cruise fare". Meaning brochure prices. So you got a killer deal on that balcony cabin and only paid $1,000.00 per person. But the basic cruise fare for that cabin was $1999.00. With that 150% credit ($1,500.00) you now only have to pay them $500.00 more to cover that same room on that cruise. Doesn't sound so good now, does it. Take the money and book another cruise at the reduced price, not the full basic cruise fare price.
Hi Sizzlemann, thanks for watching. I think in the short term with the huge amount of FCC's floating around, there will be a higher costs as people look to replace their canceled cruises, but even those prices will eventually equalize. I do suggest if someone is looking to rebook a cruise for more than 9 months in the future, the full refund is probably the way to go.
Headquartered outside of U.S.A. and having mostly non- U.S.A. Citizens as employees, the major lines will not qualify for the U.S. government stimulus money. Its a very real possibility that the lines will need to go through a General Motors (GM) style bankruptcy. Your rebooked cruise credit or stock will be worthless. To protect yourself, do not book a cruise now. If you have a booked cruise, get your money back if you can. If you can not get your money back, understand its likely gone.
Hi Doug, thanks for watching. I'd caution as well to wait this thing out before deciding to rebook with either a FCC or your refunded money. I've been missing my cruise that was supposed to be this week, but I will get back to cruising when the time is right.
Talking Cruise Thank you for your kind reply. We just returned from a Secrets resort land based vacation. We were amongst the last to leave and shared many photos from our empty resort on the resorts tourist run facebook group. The TUI charter jet we took home was far from full. Sadly, the fight attendants told us we were their final flight. As they stepped off the plane, they lost their jobs. The resort is now closed. I feel so bad for all of the hard working people who serve us tourists.
Unless they're offering 200%+ cruise credit, take the cash. Why give them an interest free loan? Uncertain times = keep more cash in your pocket. There is also a non-zero chance your cruise line will declare bankruptcy, and if so, you as a ticket holder are a creditor at the back of the line, lucky to get a fraction of a penny on your dollar.
Hi Marshal, thanks for watching. While I don't know the exact percentages, many people are taking the FCC's. Most of those are hopeful that they can cruise again soon. I am amazing to hear people that have had cruises canceled in March and April looking to book cruises for the next available dates in late May or June. I'm a hard-core cruiser, spent 75 days at sea last year, but I'm letting this thing play out for the next while. I do have other cruises booked in 2020, but I'll be fine with whatever happens.
Received notice of our May 9 cruise on Celebrity being cancelled. The usual 100% refund or 125% FCC. I don't quite understand how this works. Do I have to use the entire FCC on another cruise? What if the next cruise costs less? Is it really worth taking the FCC?
Hi Patricia, thanks for watching. The FCC value is based off of the cruise fare paid on your previous canceled cruise. The taxes & fess, plus any upgrades or onboard items like beverage packages will be refunded to your credit card. If the value on your new cruise is less than that of your FCC (wouldn't that be nice), you will be issued another FCC for the remainder. Whether it is worth it for you may depend on when you are looking to cruise again. If you plan to re-book for some time in the next several months, then the extra value of the FCC may be worth it. If your plans are for 2021 or beyond, that's a long time for the cruise to to hold all of your money.
Why is this a question? Of course I want my money back. I will never trust any type of "future credit" situation, especially when Royal Caribbean's incompetent staff never knows what's going on.
Hi R Butterfly, thanks for watching. I posed this question, because the cruise lines are incentivizing people not to request refunds by offering extra amounts towards a future cruise. At least in most circumstances, the customer has the choice.
@@TalkingCruise thanks for the clarification, I was being a smart butt, not with you, but in reference to Royal Caribbean. Your video is very informative, great job.
Hey Chris. My daughters have a down payment on a Mediterranean cruise with Royal Caribbean Allure of the seas this August. The ship was supposed to be in Spain for the 165 million dollar refurbishment but that’s been obviously put on hold. The full payment is due in May. I know I should wait it out but not sure what to do if May comes and no decision has not been made. Thoughts on this? Thank you.
Hi contheguitarplayer, thanks for watching. Definitely wait it out as long as possible. Then, perhaps a week before it's due, see if they will offer an extension. If Allure of the Seas doesn't get her planned refurbishments, it's likely Royal Caribbean will offer additional compensation if the cruise goes ahead as planned and you keep the booking.
If you do cruise be sure to take the " Burial At Sea " option. For $1,000 the toss you overboard. For $2,000 they blow " Taps " on a bugle and then throw you overboard. For $3,000 the Captain reads a prayer, they blow " Taps " on a bugle, they fire off a 21 gun salute and then throw you overboard. A bargain.
Unique circumstance my opinion it'll be at least a year before the cruise lines start up again and even that I don't believe will happen I believe when the cruise ships try to start back up again they're going to have more infections on board which will cause them to shut down once again I also see the cruise lines changing hands I believe Royal Caribbean in Carnival Cruise Lines will merge together and I believe NCL will go out of business NCL will probably only keep maybe one or two ships at best and Carnival and Royal Caribbean will also lose many ships only keeping their best ones when and if they reopen depending on what happens from there will depend if they stay in business or not I would like everyone to know that is expecting to go on a cruise that the covid-19 can stay on surfaces for up to 17 days they could also go into a hyper Heroes all formation even later than droplets and be transferred to the recirculated air systems on board these ships even when the system is off the virus can still be spread to the Cross ventilation there are large vents in every cabin door I can only hope in the future they eliminate these vents in the cabin doors and eliminate interior cabins all together I would also hope that they agreed accommodate their crew and no longer have four crew members in one room perhaps use the interior Cabins For Crew and have only one crew member in each cabin you can pretty much kiss large Gatherings good by and large party formations in atriums goodbye they will have more crowd control on board these ships and there may be new rules and regulations for using the elevators they may even be installing larger elevators or more private elevators either way there's going to be major changes I guarantee it
Hi James, thanks for watching. No doubt, many things needs need to change before cruising resume and I believe that the cruises line will need to adapt quickly or they'll keep facing the same problem over and over as you said. It's going to take time before cruising is as open and accessible to as many people as before, and in some cases cruising might not be an option for some anymore.

Hi ThankGod, thanks for watching. Hope your cruise situation works out well for you.
Yes my cruise for may 10 thru 16
Which I feel is a good deal.
actually you have unitl then to rebook, you dont have to actually cruise until 2022.
I have a alaskan cruise booked for June 30. Do you think. They will go on with it or cancel it.
Hi Carol, thanks for watching. I think Alaska cruises are looking unlikely until later in the Summer, perhaps July. Again, as I've said to many others, don't cancel your cruise, wait for the cruise line to do it or you'll lose the ability to get a refund.
My New England cruise was canceled this morning 😩
Hi Sinthia, thanks for watching. Sorry to hear that, what are your plans? Refund or rebook with FCC?
Talking Cruise I took the credit, i have hope that the cruise line industry will survive this.. I love cruising ♥️
Is carnival offering full refunds? Don't they keep the deposit does that become FCC
Hello i have cruise booked for May 3-10 with Carnvial was just wandering why haven't they cancel our cruise yet
I went through a 3rd party called Cruise Alert for a Carnival Cruise and they said I'll get cruise credit.... But I just want my money back....
Not sure have not been contacted yet.
Freedom of the seas from San Juan puerto rico canceled until May or more
Hi Gregory, thanks for watching. These cancelations will likely will extend beyond May.

Hi Paula, thanks for watching.
Have cruise in May so that will be cancelled.
Hi Derek, thanks for watching. I'd say the probability is extremely high.
A bargain.
Hi Mark, thanks for watching. 😀
How are you?thanks
Hi Mercedes, I am good. Hope you are the same. Just going with the flow of this new normal. Take care!
@@TalkingCruise good morning me too..is bad out there..I need a vacation
I have a Cruise booked with Norwegian to Mediterranean which is scheduled to start on May 1, 2020.. I have travel Insurance, but It doesn't cover Conavirus. Norwegian wants to give credit for a future cruise. I want a refund. What to do?
Hi blueseruser, thanks for watching. NCL has not yet made an official announcement about canceling cruises after April 11th, but I expect that to happen this week. Don't cancel the cruise on your own, if you wait for them to cancel, you'll be able to request a full refund.
HELL NO THANK YOU HELL NO THANK YOU HELL NO THANK YOU. A BREEDING GROUND FOR VIRUSES.
Hi S W, thanks for watching. I guess I won't be seeing you onboard anytime soon? 😀
