There was a TH-cam video I saw a few years back about the person who played that extra. Apparently, the extra was an actual military officer in the Norwegian military. Many of the rebel extra's during the AT-AT attack were also Norwegian military too. If they are anything like the officers in the US military, we don't tend to walk around people in the middle of a conversation or wait till they are done talking in tight quarters like that, especially when we have someplace to be. Though I always said "make a hole" (military jargon for move aside and let me pass) before just walking in between people like that while on the carrier or other tight walkways.
I was thinking the exact same. I had a pair of shoes just like them and they were normal "Disco" shoes :D They probably told the extras to wear dress shoes and that's what he wore
Fan fanatics are a community apart. I saw all those films and the people involved without once giving thought to the ones highlighted by this video. I'm astounded that some of them have achieved character status in the Star Wars Lore from the lowly filler bits they originally played. Such is the will of the FANDOM, forever praise their zeal....
Best guess for platform shoes, it was someone’s teenager. Nearly tall enough to be adult, but not enough to get taken out of the shot for being noticeably a different height. Just needed those extra few inches and are forever in Star Wars
@@monkofbob No. Why would that person need platform shoes to gain height if they then stand out even more? Without the extra centimeters they would've been only slightly bigger than the other ones.
It more likely that the costume department planned to use platform shoes and such to keep the height of the extras uniform so the shot looked more impressive on film but then on the day of shooting, they just handed out the costumes on a first come first served basis due to stress and time constraints, so that tall people needed up with tall shoes unintended.
a)I think it's a woman. The person in front of the subject appears to be female, and perhaps others wearing the same uniforms in that section are as well. Hard to tell but a lot of them have long hair, as does the subject with the platform shoes. I know that was the style at the time, but it is pretty long far Star Wars standards. b)I think that section is supposed to represent a group of female officers. Maybe they didn't have enough female extras and filled it out with dudes with long hair and one in platform shoes. It's meant to be subliminal.
On Nonluiski Papanoida's appearance, not only is Chi Eekway Katie Lucas, but the human woman dressed in black with a creasent headdress talking to a man in olive is played by Amanda Lucas, George's elder daughter. On top of that, on the Clone Wars episode where the Papanoida family featured, all three children of Notluiski are based on George's kids. Che Amanwe is based on Amanda, and son Ion is based on Jett Lucas, who did have his own movie cameo as a Jedi padawan. Also, Notluiski is a dab hand with blasters.
I think one of the coolest background characters is that young Jedi from Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith that was supposedly played by George Lucas' son.
… never noticed the platform shoes guy before. However, that style was very popular during the 1970s, when Star Wars was shot. I used to own an almost identical pair between 1978 and 1980. Wardrobe likely asked everyone to wear their own, plain black shoes, and those were all he had.
An extra is a background character who doesn't have a speaking part. That trooper both made a noise when he hit his head and also had lines with the other troopers so he is not a background extra.
There was a great extra in a New Hope when they were taking chewey on the elevator and an imperial officer tries to get on and on waves him away and so he kind of nervously looks around and looks up as if actually looking for the next elevator, really good acting for an extra! Another similar one is in The empire strikes back right after Vader chokes Captain Needa and storms down the hallway past a couple of officers looking down pretending to be busy, after Vader glides past, one imperial officer looks up from his clipboard to nervously look at Vader's back as he thankfully moves further away from him . Just really good reactions from both of those extras that could have just stood there and did nothing but added real human reactions to the scene .
I have always noticed lieutenant Lepira sitting in front of luke, with a scowl funny big 70s hair, oddly in frame, and when attack of the clones came out 15 years later and I saw Hayden Christensen I immediately thought that was an amazing resemblance and coincidence! But it took Reddit 35 years to make the same observation lol
A speaking part, so not entirely background: the stormtroopers Obi Wan hid from on the Death Star. Specifically, the one saying, "probably another drill."

No. Usually the extras are hired by a separate company, so the company gets credited. But the extras get paid & fed. I was an extra on Forrest Gump, Contact, & a few other lesser known movies.
My favorite background character is featured a lot in this video. Bob Hudsol, or as I like to call him Beardy McManface, is one of the Rebel generals in A New Hope. You see him standing behind R2D2 in the closing shot of the ceremony. I don't know how you miss a guy with facial hair like that.
I thought the reason the first pilot, Boshek, Obi Wan spoke to about a ship for hire but turned Ben down was because his ship may not have had the room. His flight suit made me think his ship was a relatively small one.
"Several fighters have broken off from the main group. Come with me." I always notice the 2nd of the two tie fighter pilots who follow Vader, the one with the jaunty strut. I like to think his was the tie-fighter that collided with Vader's, sending him spinning into space, but accidentally saving him as well.
Surprised the old man with a beard on Endor wasn't mentioned, since similarly to Sing and Voss, was later fleshed out into a full character, when they retconed him to actually being an elderly Captain Rex from the Clone Wars series

The best part about the Ice cream maker retcon is the fact that it's called a "camtono".. there is a video of a little girl named "Delta" who for some reason calls "ice cream" "camtono" I'm sure it's still up on TH-cam.. so even though it's been retconned, and renamed.. it is still technically referencing an ice cream maker.
Correction: The role of an extra is twofold; 1) to add to the world and ambiances and 2) to absolutely stand out enough to get noticed without taking TOO MUCH of the focus from the main(er) characters in scene. If you can land that second one, you might be bumped up to a bit player or even noticed by the right people... But- and I can't stress this enough- it has to be organic and fit. (Some BG actors do what other actors do, and work out some level of backstory for their characters, even if its just "Imperial Officer who walks over here" or "you're gonna run around this corner carrying this ice cream maker", and expand it a bit- even if its just for them.)
