Great insight Josh, if only all foreman could explain this to their apprentices, went 4.5 yrs without anyone showing me any of this, this succinctly 👍🙏
Hey Josh love your videos! Do you have any advise for a mid 30s guy wanting to get into the industry? I'm not in a financial position where I can stop working to do a pretrade course ( mortgage kids etc) is this a huge prerequisite that employers would look for? Or is attitude and wanting to learn enough to get you in the door? Cheers Josh Pete
Hey Pete, I started my building apprenticeship at 32, I’m 37 now and starting my own business in the trade, well worth it mate. Note: I took a 25k pay cut to do the apprenticeship, but can double my salary now. Hope that helps.
hey Pete, see the note below for a 32 year old, my advice is to always work out what you're really trying to achieve and find a way to dip your toes in the water before fully committing, For example you might just want a break from your current job or work place, or you might be satisfying a desire to create something, and then when your on site all day everyday you realise its not what you thought, once you have given it a go for 1 - 3 months you'll be a in better position to work out if you do want to truly commit to an apprenticeship
@@nzbuilder Thanks Josh for the advice and I fully get where you are coming from re testing the water.....I know from my industry how people can have a idea of what work will be like but the reality can be completely different. Il get ringing around local wgtn builders and try get onsite...even if its unpaid for a day a week to get a feel for it. Keep the videos coming. Cheers Pete
Awesome video mate you should sell this content to polytechs around nz as teaching resources for pre trade cert.

Where can I find a sample plan to make reading excersize on them?
I use prime designs for most of my new builds
I looked my hardest but still didn't see any Pigs. where were they hiding?
Can I get a job as a civil construction supervisor?
Thanks for your interest - not currently hiring for that role :)
