    Looks tasty Talli Faye.
We have a family fruitcake recipe that’s been handed down through the years. I believe I’m the only one in my generation making it. I love old family recipes though and treasure them.
Ours starts with a spice cake recipe and is stuffed with the candied fruits and nuts. Double the spices as well and wrap in cheese cloth soaked in brandy. Delicious and small slice with a cup of tea is heavenly. I’m not one to partake in alcohol, but I do enjoy it on the fruitcake.

What you have actually made is an Irish fruit cake. All they use is nuts and dried fruits minus the banana chips. Looks delicious! Great job. Have a blessed weekend.

I only use pumpkin pie spice when baking for the holidays! It has everything you need, already in it. Cinnamon, cloves, ginger, allspice, and nutmeg. It's holiday spice magic in a bottle ❣️ 👌🏻
Spice cakes, oatmeal cookies, apple or peach pies,... and it makes the best sweet potato and pumpkin pies! 🥧
Or sweet potato casserole. It's pumpkin and sweet potato's best friend.
Anywhere you would use cinnamon, allspice, ginger, or cloves. I absolutely hate nutmeg, but you don't even notice that it's in there.
    Just perfect holiday magic! 👍🏻

🙋🏼‍♀️ You can also use a boiled simple syrup which is equal parts of sugar and water to drench the cooked fruitcake in to preserve it to avoid mold. That's why they used liquor, to seal it and preserve it for a long time.👍🏻
I saw that years ago somewhere and I believe it's what one of the expensive and famous companies do to keep theirs fresh on the shelf till Christmas.
Fruit cake was invented as a depression cake when fresh ingredients couldn't be found. That's why the fruit was dried. Poor man's Christmas cake.

Your fruit cake looks delicious Talli Faye !! I like you don’t like all that regular fruitcake stuff with citron and other things ! About 40 yrs ago I started making my own fruitcake with things my family enjoyed ! I use a regular Spice cake boxed cake mix and as directed in box and add in in 8oz container of candid cherries cut in 1/2 , 8 oz container of candid pineapple cut in 1/2 , and 8 oz of chopped pecans , I mix the cake mix as directed on box , I toss my fruit and nuts in flour then mix them in the cake batter to keep from settling in batter !! I heavily butter a Bundt pan tube and inside the pan , then sprinkle sugar inside the pan including tube , then in bottom of the pan I alternate a cherry snd a piece of pineapple then sprinkle chopped pecans around the fruit in bottom of pan , pour in the batter , then bake per the direction on cake box , start checking cake with a toothpick when the cake has baked per instructions and if not completely done bake in 5 minute increments testing every 5 minutes until done , as ovens vary ! The cake usually done in about 45 minutes in my oven , let cool on counter for about 5 minutes then lightly shake cake pan from side to side until cake loosens , put a plate over pan and turn out cake , let cool completely before cutting ! This cake is delicious and last well just covered in foil on counter for over a week if it last that long before being eaten up !! It freezes well also !! I hope you enjoy your Talli Faye fruitcake it looked delicious ! ❤️🙏🙋🏻🌈🌈

I’m with you, I hate the old fashion fruit cakes. Those things are nasty! This one would probably be good though since there no candied fruits in it. Several years ago we went to the Collin Street Bakery in Waco. They are famous for their fruit cakes. But they had one that had mostly nuts in it and we got one of those to try. It was pretty good. I think it had some kind of fruit, maybe pineapple or something but it was better than the regular fruit cakes.

I think if you leave the cake in the pan and pour the simple syrup mixture of it and let it soak it up and make the cake really moist it would really be good. A lot of people do soak their fruitcakes for several days sometimes in different kinds of liquor and I don’t see why you couldn’t soak that one in the simple syrup mixture. I think warming a can of coconut cream and pour it over the cake and letting that soak into it would be good too.

When I saw the title, I was thinking, here we go with another controversial recipe, lol. I do wonder if it's the fruit or the cake part that folks dislike. Is the cake part that different from other loaf type cakes? For the size of your pans, here's a somewhat simple way to figure it out. Determine how many cups of water you can put in the pan to fill it, and then you can convert the number of cups to quarts. There are four cups in a quart. If you can put eight cups of water in a pan, then it's a two quart pan. Are loaf pans measured in quarts? If not, let me know how they're typically measured, and I might be able to figure out a way to determine the size of your pans. (math can be our friends)

Hi Talli Faye, I got a question for you. I’ve always wonder why if you are going to add baking powder and salt to all purpose flour, why couldn’t you use self rising flour to begin with? I made a huge pot of Green Chili today with jalapeño, chipotle in Adobe, and hatch chilies. I’ve got it in the fridge and tomorrow I’m going to serve it over chille rellanos.
