I’m with you, I hate the old fashion fruit cakes. Those things are nasty! This one would probably be good though since there no candied fruits in it. Several years ago we went to the Collin Street Bakery in Waco. They are famous for their fruit cakes. But they had one that had mostly nuts in it and we got one of those to try. It was pretty good. I think it had some kind of fruit, maybe pineapple or something but it was better than the regular fruit cakes.

I think if you leave the cake in the pan and pour the simple syrup mixture of it and let it soak it up and make the cake really moist it would really be good. A lot of people do soak their fruitcakes for several days sometimes in different kinds of liquor and I don’t see why you couldn’t soak that one in the simple syrup mixture. I think warming a can of coconut cream and pour it over the cake and letting that soak into it would be good too.

When I saw the title, I was thinking, here we go with another controversial recipe, lol. I do wonder if it's the fruit or the cake part that folks dislike. Is the cake part that different from other loaf type cakes? For the size of your pans, here's a somewhat simple way to figure it out. Determine how many cups of water you can put in the pan to fill it, and then you can convert the number of cups to quarts. There are four cups in a quart. If you can put eight cups of water in a pan, then it's a two quart pan. Are loaf pans measured in quarts? If not, let me know how they're typically measured, and I might be able to figure out a way to determine the size of your pans. (math can be our friends)
@@bowed305 well, to me, the true old classic ones were very dense and full of the candied fruits….. my version is definitely not that 😂… the cider does have a twang in the fruit… one person had a great suggestion in that just use apple cider but not the cider vinegar!!… I’d probably really like that… Buzz and I liked everything else about this recipe
Hi Talli Faye, I got a question for you. I’ve always wonder why if you are going to add baking powder and salt to all purpose flour, why couldn’t you use self rising flour to begin with? I made a huge pot of Green Chili today with jalapeño, chipotle in Adobe, and hatch chilies. I’ve got it in the fridge and tomorrow I’m going to serve it over chille rellanos.
I have had a few good fruit cakes in my life but they didn't have that candy stuff either. I wonder if adding a bit of applesauce and not as much trail mix would make it not so bready. The cider does make the fruit twangy but at least it’s not liquor flavored
I make the old fashioned Candy Orange Date-Nut Cake instead of the traditional fruit cake ❤
@deannadanley923
I know about this old- fashion cake. My mom made it y....... ears ago. And I made it some years ago. It was a little crumbly, but good. Wish I had the recipe. I can find it on internet. Hope you like it. And she made the prune sheet cake. It was good and moist.
Happy Thansgiving to you and family.
Yum !
@outofegypt-r5h I love it! I don't think I've ever tried the Prune Cake, but it sounds good! Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours, too :)
The thing about fruitcake is, you can use whatever you have.
Sunday Blessings ❤
I just about hurled when you poured apple cider vinegar on that fruit. You ain't scared, that's for sure! 😁
@@georgiagal9410 lol 😂… I was willing to try it cause I sure wasn’t gonna use liquor!…it did create a twang in the fruit but we liked it better
I would love to try your fruit cake it looks good it would be a fruit cake it's just made with dried fruit not candy fruit❤
That stuff is good on salads too !
Hi tallie Fay
Mmmmm looks delicious
Fruit bread
Tallie don't me scared lol
Love u with the love of the lord Jesus
lol 😂…. Love and blessings 🙏🏻♥️
Does anyone remember the Smilin' Jack's Po Boy spice cake with raisins and almonds? It was a half of a little cake and was on the shelf with the other cookies and cakes. That was my favorite snack cake in the world when I was growing up!
I just tried to find it last week on the Internet and it's like it never existed. Sadly, Jack's cookie company went out of business years ago. 😔
It's only a memory now.
But I'm gonna try to make it from memory.
Wish me luck with that ❣️🙄🤞🏻
Hello Talli Faye
My papa loved fruit cake
He’s in heaven now & I will
Always think of him when theres any mention of fruitcake❤️❤️❤️
he would have liked yours also❤
Yes he had a sweet tooth & I do too😁
@@MrCorvettegirl2 such precious memories 😍😍
I love it tropical fruit cake
Good morning ☕ Talli Faye 🌞💕
I’m with you, I hate the old fashion fruit cakes. Those things are nasty! This one would probably be good though since there no candied fruits in it. Several years ago we went to the Collin Street Bakery in Waco. They are famous for their fruit cakes. But they had one that had mostly nuts in it and we got one of those to try. It was pretty good. I think it had some kind of fruit, maybe pineapple or something but it was better than the regular fruit cakes.
@@dianejohanson98 yes.. we liked this recipe but the cider vinegar gives the fruit a twang close to the alcohol taste but in a different way… next time I’m gonna soak the fruit nut mixture in something like plain apple cider, orange juice or pineapple juice 🤔 🤔♥️♥️
I'm not scared Tallie, 'cause you're always saying "don't be scared" lol.
Good morning Talli Faye. This looks so good. I think I'll try this and not being scared will add mini chocolate chips 😊❤
@@terrigonzalez8186 sounds good!… I liked it but the fruit still has a twang from the cider vinegar so I think next time I’ll try regular apple cider or a fruit juice like orange or pineapple 🤔 ♥️
@inthekitchenwithtallifaye4724 I wondered about that. I saw from your reaction that something didn't really appeal to you. I was wondering about using 7up or sprite. I'm not scared to try it 🙃💙
@@terrigonzalez8186 ohhh!!.. that’s a good idea!!
@@inthekitchenwithtallifaye4724 I'll let you know
Yes do!!😍😍
I make my fruitcake up and let it sit a month before eating.
@@lindaflanagan4692 I’m going to freeze these… I bet it will help make them a little more dense after thawing
@@melissawilliams7224 I actually started to do that!!!… I should have!… I’m definitely figuring out a second version of this recipe!!… I like it… it really is good but I’ve got some ideas now!🤔🤔♥️♥️😂😂
Thank you so very much that's about like my Mom did it her way thank you 😊
When I saw the title, I was thinking, here we go with another controversial recipe, lol.
@@groovygrandmama4726 oh YUM!!!… You can use self rising flour if you like! 😊♥️😊
I have had a few good fruit cakes in my life but they didn't have that candy stuff either. I wonder if adding a bit of applesauce and not as much trail mix would make it not so bready. I would have definitely used more cinnamon and nutmeg. But it definitely looks very good. I would have been scared to make 😂❤.
@@jackiebriscoe1811 lol 😂… oh my goodness!!!… I didn’t think about the applesauce!!!!… I bet that would work!!!… the cider vinegar still creates a twang in the fruit so next time I’m gonna try regular apple cider or a fruit juice like orange or pineapple 🤔…. Oh goodness…. Now I’m gonna have to try another version lol 😂 ♥️
I think the vinegar may have caused it not to rise correctly
@ the vinegar dry put a twang in the fruit!… it’s good but different from traditional fruit cake for sure…. I’m gonna do another recipe on it just for fun!
❤ awesome video
If im making one I use the cherry’s and pineapple and lots of pecans ❤
Get those scissors Talli
It will be good I love fruit cake
My family has never liked fruitcake. I used to like a store-bought fruit cake when I was growing up, but you can't find it anymore. I never liked any other fruit cake either. Yours is very different without all of that fake fruit that looks like green and red candy that goes in it. I'm going to have to try this one. Can you answer a question? Did the dried fruit get soft or is it still a little chewy and crispy? Thank you so much.
@@K4familySnoeberger the fruit held its texture!… The cider vinegar made it have a twang… I didn’t even think about it but others on here have suggested just cider not the cider vinegar or even fruit juice like orange or pineapple!.. I’m gonna try that next time!😊
So where would we get a pack of the fruit you used?
Girlfriend, the BIGGEST REASON people don’t care for Fruit Cake is due to the CITRON In the fruit. It has a taste I can’t describe!! It’s that NASTY 😮😮 💕🙏🙏. Your KeyLime Friend ❤❤
@@jeannetaylor2217 lol 😂… I’ve never known what it was, I just knew I didn’t like it!
Our date nut cake has only one cup of sugar AND one cup of flour in it. It DOES have one POUND of pecans and one POUND of dates in it. It is very big and very dense. We have made this cake on holidays for decades.
Yes… I’ve got to practice on the density of it!… this recipe is so close for what I’m wanting !!… I’ll keep on til I get it how I want it to be!!… In the meantime we’ll be eating in various fruitcake recipes lol 😂 😂♥️♥️
@ Personally, I never liked “ fruit “ in my fruit cakes, EXCEPT for the dates. We make ours a few weeks in advance, and wrap it in orange juice soaked cheese cloth and refrigerate. Unless someone drinks alcohol, and they will wrap it in their preferred alcohol. Have a very blessed Thanksgiving and Christmas…..THIS year, especially, Talli Faye.❤️
Did the ingredients react to the acid in the vinegar? I would use apple juice or cider or maybe cranberry juice instead of vinegar . Like the recipe, not labor intensive like others. Also like the fruit nut mix. I don’t like the candied fruit either
@@bmcneil9952 the vinegar created a twang in the fruit… next time I’m gonna try regular apple cider or a fruit juice like orange or pineapple to soak my fruit in 😊
I love fruit cake with out any nuts in it.
Don’t like sticky candies either ❤
You may have to change the name of your channel to the kitchen of the talented, Talli Faye
Talli Faye non-traditional fruit cake. 👍
Look good
My sweetheart made a cake he got a white cake mix and put apple pie filling in it. It's yummy but he did not put cinnamon in it. But it's good anyway. ❤❤❤. I'm glad the fruit cake turned out good it looked good. Have a blessed Sunday and night. Tallie Faye.
