Thank you for this. Brought back some memories of my 18 months as a driver with the the Corporation Transport in 1973/74. Noticed the Leyland Titan with route 37 Larkfield Garage on the destination board. I was based at Larkfield, and drove the 37 route up to Castlemilk regularly, mostly on Leyland Atlanteans. Also noticed the bus with Muirend on it's destination board. I also drove a route that terminated at Muirend, though I think at the time the route number was 3. It was usually served by Leyland Titans, with the rear platform. I recall one day, shortly after I'd qualified as a driver, sitting in the passenger compartment at the Muirend terminus, chatting with my conductress for the 5 or 10 minutes before heading back down the route. She said something like.... "... you know, when you're running really late, and every stop has loads of people waiting... they all moan loudly. But that's it. Here, (Muirend ), they don't moan, but they write the letters to Bath St. (Head Office), and you do hear about it..." A reference to the middle class sensibiliities of Muirend.

My grandfather was one first two Bus Mechanic apprentices taken on by the Glasgow Corporation Transport Department.. At the Parkhead depot he worked on the fleet of 20 buses from assorted manufacturers including the petrol-electric Tilling-Stevens.
The Tilling-Stevens because of its electric transmission could not be tow or push started and was often left with engine running 24-7. My grandfather was the only one at Parkhead who had the knack of hand cranking the particular bus and this would cause a problem when he was on holiday.

Hi, thanks for sharing your memory with us ❤, I didn't even know there were electric transmissions back in the day! The solution of running it 24-7 is surprising in this day and age, not only the emission but also fuel prices😄Also, it must have been very special to be the only one with the know how, lucky grandfather 🙂👍

I went to it as well started from Glasgow green but I was surprised we had no transport to take you to the transport museum that was silly but I found it funny my brother could get on the bus from Glasgow green to the transport museum that was funny and I had to get a bus and a train that was funny, but the day was good😂

Thanks for your comment ❤. I agree, it was a bit surprising to me, I have gone on a ride on some of these buses in city centre and thought it would be the same setup. In fact the ride that I went on also finished at transport museum a few years back (got the videos of it). But as we noticed they didnt pick up anyone, got no idea how your brother sneak on one (jammy b**...)🤣
But since the weather was nice (didnt rain till i got to museum and video and then poored on me a bit) i cycled from the green to riverside. was a nice event kudos to GVVT for arrangement and all the drivers and fans that showed up.
