I use an openmediavault NAS that backs up everything to Google Drive with rclone, and is accessible from the Internet as a Filerun istance. Essentially, you get your own self-hosted Google Drive that is the single access point for your files and does all the backups for you automatically. It's not quite 3-2-1, only 2-2-1, but you can add an extra hdd for true purism.

Nice setup, I think NAS is the way to go, how user friendly is it to get it all up and running? 🤔

@@Sam10X It's Linux, so user friendliness is close to zero. It's not TERRIBLY difficult, but if you want file sharing, backups, your own remote domain, and nice GUI it's at least a week-long project, just to research everything and try different combos.

      @@Sam10X I use:
      - Raspberry Pi 4 and a 1TB HDD as a server (could get a second one and run them in RAID1 for better data protection)
      - Openmediavault for NAS.
      - rclone/rsync for backups to Google DIsk.
      - Google Domains for my domain name.
      - Cloudflare for free SSL, DDOS protection, DynDNS and proxy.
      - ddclient as a DynDNS client, since I don't have a static ip (also note that for Cloudflare DynDNS you'll have to clone the ddclient repo and build ddclient your self, because the version in apt repo is too outdated and will not work).
      - FileRun as a nice web GUI akin to Google Drive.

Thanks for sharing, sounds like something to reference when I want to do a NAS setup!🙏

Fantastic Presentation. Thanks for sharing. I'm interested in some of the encryption services that will make any cloud provider zero knowledge, rather. Have you used any of these services?

Thanks, appreciate it. Most of my files I keep off the cloud but I’m interested to test them out more in the future as I look into them in greater detail! Zero knowledge is the way to go 👍
