Slight correction. Insas doesn't have full auto mode rather it has three round burst and semi automatic mode( single shot). However the LMG version of the insas rifle has full automatic firing.
Who told u that? The assault rifle version also got full auto mode as well as 2 round burst and semi auto
In short: INSAS was not a great success as a rifle. In harsh terms, it straight up sucked.
Not really! The successive variants such as the INSAS 1B-1 were exceptionally good in terms of quality and reliability. Given that INSAS was India's first effort to develop an assault rifle, some shortcomings were pretty natural to expect. The larger blame lies with the Ordnance Factories for their poor manufacturing methods and absolute lack of any kind of quality control.
Insas has much more accurate fire capability than any kalsnikov AK rifle. But there are such stopage in Insas, which is major drawback of insas. Otherwise it is a good rifle and suitable for police forces in peace areas.
I think SIG-716 would have helped here. Its perfect for these kinds of missions. But i'm sure our Army knows best

From the beginning it was infantry rifle and not counterinsurgency weapon. It was designed for shoot to bleed and not shoot to kill . The manufacturer don’t decide the caliber of weapon. Insas unlike AK 203 and sig saure. Also Ak is for regular infantry and Sig is being used for marksman role. It did the job for what it was designed cheap and accurate. Jamming issue were there which are common is most rifle in Initial years. Now the philosophy around whole world changed shoot to kill coz terrorist don’t really care for their lives . Also present military have mercenaries fighting along side them.
Due to Insas rifle we have lost many soldiers in Kargil war. We are still loosing our soldiers.
Main reason is is insas bullet is 5 mm where as ak 203 is 7.5 mm which is easier to kill rather injured..in modern warfare..we cannot depend on 5 mm bullet guns
Almost all the NATO nations use 5.55 mm size bullets. 5.55 is the trend as the weapon doesn’t have too many vibrations on AUTO which makes it stable. But 7.5 you cannot fire on AUTO and keep the weapon stable.

Gsk - Insas uses the standard NATO cartridge which is 5.56x4.45 which was designed based on the theory that if a soldier is wounded then he consumes more military logistics than a dead soldier. However, the NATO hadn't figured out the Pakistani Army mindset who left their soldiers to die. The Indian Army thus wanted an assault rifle that could fire the 7.62x.39 cartridge. Hence the new requirement.
INSAS was the worst ever rifle manufactured post WWII till 2017, desi saasta jugaad tha...i think that's good enough of a reason.
Yeah it use to jam in combat situation. Thats why majority of RR guys use ak in operations.

To upgrade ur knowledge INSAS rifles don't have automatic mode max 3 rounds can be fired in burst mode. Automatic modes are in assaults like AK47 and AK56

INSAS is one of the best rifle, the real problem was very poor build quality and less option to attach modern optics.
it can be a good police rifle which can be manufactured and circulated throughout nation far better than 303 but not for armed forces because their requirements are different
INSAS caliber 5.56 is not enough to kill the enemy. Further, the plastic parts broke in Kargil heights.
you ask any armed forces personnel ( in private ) , he will tell you "is se kutta bhi nahi marta" ( even a dog doesn't get killed by this gun ).
small bullet, low muzzle velocity i.e. low kinetic energy , smaller range, low impact.

this gun was pushed by khan-gress for exactly this purpose.
even the cartridge is made up of polycarbonate , which cracks ( i have seen insulation tapes wrapped around them ).
when army asked to replace the cartridges with METAL ones, they were told " weight badh jayega, can't do"

Simple Case of commission and kickbacks.Entities in present government and the armed forces are gonna get some hefty commission on this.Russia has already managed to derail Arjun MBT project with t90s and Hal Marut programme with their Mig21s and 27s.Insas is one of the few rifles that can be used in Siachen Glacier or the Thar desert.Drdo has been working on the latest Excalibur with state of the art technologies but now this will derail the project as well.its sad

FN Fal was one of the most effective weapons back in the day. OFB took such a beautiful system and made it kaput. The ability to fukc up is huge in these guys. The gunsmiths in US who literally design guns in their garage probably has one millionths of resources these guys had, and even with all that resources they were unable to just survive!
in insas we can count the remain bullet which is good feature i liked
But the translucent material is not a good fit. Apart from what has been told in the video, a major complaint was of magazine durability.

I believe that the image used to depict AK-203 in the comparison Slide is actually of a SIG 716. Informative video but is is confusing as GOI has also signed a deal for SIG 716 Automatic Rifles
Well, if these INSAS are made personal weapons of Indian Army , then only God can save India. I am glad that Indian government decided to ditch it. Good decision !!

A soldier life depends on the reliability of a gun.. and nothing on the planet is better than a Kalashnikov! Even in US civilian guns market AR users are liking their Ak and have taken their market with fire! Ak simply proves itself by its work and usability!

Should have licensed the NATO standard AK-19. Not only it is lighter, but uses the same standard ammo as existing INSAS and the NATO standard is followed for the new SIG-716i as well other assault rifles of Indian army.

@@jackremington8888 And Indian AK-203 is a gimped AK-203 without some key features of actual AK-203 like adjustable and foldable buttstock, finger tab fire selection, longer hand grip and the piccatinny rail at the top. It is actually AK-203 with better metallurgy and without adjustable buttstock.

INSAS rifles me single shots & TRB(Three round brust) he auto mod nahi he only LMG me he and single se auto wala this problem faces in LMG only . INSAS rifles me jamming ka problem he and useko cold weather and dust se sabse jyada nuksaan hota he aur baki rifles se jyada maintain karna padta he and close combat me long barrel ki wazah se operate karne me problem but iska accuracy is awsome

Hahaha. There is no automatic in insas riffle. There is single shot or trb mechanism which means triple round bust fire. On one click 3 rounds will be fired. Then again you have to trigger.

Why is no one from army and drdo punished for not upgrading insas rifles in 30 years?
Only private enterprises can make better guns. We don't have a gun culture where many users can give feedback to upgrade weapons. That is why our desi public permitted bore pistols, rifles and shotguns are still so crude and a joke.

There are three mode
1) S
2)R
3)B
Safe :- no round will be fired
Repeat:- one round at a. Time
Burst:- 3 round at a time
( I personally used it ,may be auto is available)
As far as what I have read, INSAS with full auto mode come in black colour. I have seen black INSAS LMG and ARs as well

Guys it's unnatural that we have sent space satellites and rovers to moon and Mars. We made ICBM like Agni 5 and Agni 6. We made bvr missile like Astra, indegenous aircraft career, indigenous destroyers are being built at majgao doc, even indegenous SSBN class subs are beinade in India. Still we can't make AR rifles. It's definitely not our incompetence or incapability. It's the lack of interest, lack of private participation, lack of r&d and lack of investment by govt. Perhaps because it's not a pressing problem for our govt or defence ministry in particular. I suggest that instead of funding Russia and buying AK-203 we must launch upgrades on the insas rifle, improve the design, use good tech, and build a refined gun with all the army's current requirements.

Insas is a poorly built rifle, prone to jaming and distortion in accuracy after 2 magzines...they really need to work on it..

compare Sig- Saur with AK203.. Comparison took place always between 19:20 not 8:20.
Not only Indian Army, three more country raised the same issues.. even one country cancelled their order. Insas is nothing but a crap rifle. this is the reason when special forces arms immediately replaced by Ak47 & Ak103.
And before 2013 UPA govt did not allow DRDO to make a better rifle only to promote importing rifles from Sweden, USA or Israel via agent in UK. Tavor is one of the best gun but price was really high compared to Tavor-Tar 9XF. present generation purchased from Israel via G2G.
Sig-Saur rifle is also one of the best rifle, problem is with IOB made bullet. the quality of Nato ammunition is far better quality without much powder in barrel.

Auto mode is there, but not in all INSAS. Fully auto INSAS are black in colour

INSAS is legendary in that it was the worst assault rifle created. It doesn't even have Automatic fire so it isn't even an Assault Rifle. An outdated AK from the 50s could perform equally or better than the IN-ASS

If these rifles are to be stopped from future use by the Indian Army than why not handover the entire cache to the Police force of any state in India e.g Mahrashtra Police as in 2008 terror attack on Mumbai it was seen that Mumbai Police was still using the old First World War 303 rifles atleast the INSAS SLR rifles would have been handy compared to the 303's

Insas rifle is not automatic. It is semi automatic. Only 3 round burst . Insas lmg is automatic.

You missed the main difference. Insas is 5.56*45mm whereas bigger 7.62839mm. Reason for choosing bigger caliber is the result of change in rules of engagement. Earlier India believed in just wound the enemy and don't kill him as he too is after all a soldier. However this humanitarian mindset came with cost of life of our soldiers as wounded enemies were most times were able to attack back. So now with AK 203, Indian soldiers will only fire to "kill". So RIP India's enemies.

Switching to 5.56 was a NATO decision, and while it's an alright round to have fun with at the range or take out unarmoured targets and small animals, it doesn't have enough power in combat situations. That's probably why the US military is moving to 6.8mm rounds.
Insas is not automatic only burst mode
AK-203 bullet is 1.5 times heavier. So soldiers can carry less bullets.
