I'm self-taught and started skateboarding at around age 9. Without even realising it, I adopted a surfer-style of skating (or my version of it). So when I see this video of Richy Schaffer carving the pavement like surfers, this makes me smile! I'm just completely blown away! I'm definitely purchasing a Carver!
I just bought this board from edge skateboards in Dana point (great shop, a lot of variety, and friendly staff). I wanted to improve my surfing ability and I've been through a lot of popular manufacturers. First time I jumped on this board I realized how a genuine surfing feel this gave me. This board doesn't require my feet to ever touch the ground to gain forward thrust. Instead the unique trucks allow me to pump the board to gain motion. I'd definitely give this board a try!
I've been riding a Carver for a while. They are the most versatile skateboards. You can carve flatground and bomb hills. I ride alongside my buddy with his longboard down long hills and stay right with him. The funnest thing for me about them is the huge powerslides you can get with such control
hey man, tell me how tall are you? i want to get one carver but i'm not sure if this one would be too small or snappy for me. and here in brazil no exchanges so i can´t mess up...
Go to a store (where they sell Carver skateboards) and try a demo, it feels a little weird at first if you are a skateboard but it is easy to figure it out. I bought one in VA beach and the guy that sold it to me and showed me how to pump it was a 50 year old surfer, and he was very good on the Carver so I bought one and I love it it is a lot of fun and also a great work out for me and I am 41.
I ruptured my ear drum so I'm out of water for 3 months at least. the stoke from riding that thing is unbelievable. It is like surfing. Tip : measure your normal surfboard stance width between your feet, and look for a stiff deck with tail and wheelbase similar to what you measured, and buy bushings of different durometers. Also buy risers and an angled riser to dewedge the back truck
If any of you lived in the Florida Panhandle, come and see us at Maui Nix Surf Shop. We are one the only shop that carries Carver boards and we will let you try out our demo board in the parking lot.
Good job on the video - agreed re: training for surfing - a carving style skate is a must have! I prefer a Sector 9 bamboo "shoots" or "sentinel" with SideWinder trucks... low to the ground, deeper carving. All good though! props on the tight carves!
When I saw a longboard I just thought it could be a chance to try skateboarding again(when I was a kid in 70's skateboards were a toys only for me) wich I did but 42 years old, 2 kids, bills to pay does not leave too much room for myself BUT I found CARVER C7 on the net. A friend brought from California C7 trucks only and I found a deck locally(I'm Brazilian). Now I have to find some time to skateboard, it is amazing and the only moment of my life, so far, that I feel sad about getting old...
What do you think about the cx.4? Between c7 and cx.4, ive been hearing that the c7 is more like a longboard kinda feel, and the cx.4 is like a shortboard. I have the proteus setup with the cx.4 and its snappier and faster forsure, but i'm not too familiar with the c7s, although I practiced on them in the shops.
@proctorsurfboards what effect would it have putting the c7 trucks on a big longboard like a 46 inch? will i still be able to get the snap like carves?
How tall are you, weight? I have the USA 32.5 Resin, but I'd love to see the diffence between it and Da Monsta. I am 5'8 185lbs, and mostly skate street, but love the surf crossover training.
anyone helps with pumping!? I am doing it but the skate doesnt move what is the problem? can you give me a guide as of how exactly should i move my legs in this exercise?
Heel toe(sideways) the front of the board to begin the "pump" and hone in on your front foot directing just like the wheels to a car. I like to lean back and use my back foot as my power supply, use your hips and arms to send your energy to your knees and ankles. If starting off from a stop is hard; practice by getting a couple pushes in THEN use the technique to find where/how you are transferring your energy"pump" the best way for your style . Practice will help just feel the motion of your body fluidly*(one motion) transfer to the board, if this was no help at all please go look at how John John , Slater, Fanning, pump their way up into a barrel. this is suppose to simulate the principles you apply to the water on the pavement. Good luck and loosen your spring/trucks to make the carving a bit easier in the begining/ slow speed tighten them up for heavy pumps/ fast speeds. -Bro
I just bought one today, I've never surfed and haven't skated for a about ten years, the guy in the shop loosend the front truck off a touch, I find having my feet 90 degrees to the edge of the board helps so like straight across almost with the front foot just behind the bolts on the truck and my back foot just behind the bolts on the back truck so more towards the end of the board, start on a car park or something with a slight down hill and lean forward a touch and I use both feet to tilt the board and push the power into my back foot twisting my hips and shoulders as if I was trying to flick the back of the board out pushing into the turn, I found doing this on a slight down hill helped me get the hang of it took about 30 mins and I was able to get momentum and power into it, it was absolutely knackering though!!
watch Vlad popov's video on LDP its on youtube... pump 1 really taught me how to pump, the rest really is just a tightening of pump 1's motion... its good
I gave both and sidewinder need risers if your deck is low. I enjoy both though I'm usually going for the Karver more. Grew up on sector nine and think the double kings are great !!
smoothstar was my choice between the two. I tried both extensively, and went with the smoothstar. essentially they are very similar, i just found the smoothstar was smoother in the release of the carve, and had a better flow. However, I am absolutely positive, that with proper adjustments of either setup, will be an awesome board. I like the fact with the star, you can put whatever truck you want on it.
Works awesome. I made a paddle with a fibreglass rake handle and a 4" long x 2" dia piece of soft sikaflex 2111 poly attached to the end to give some spring. Use it with my own design wave skate / surf skate (IMHO works better than SS thruster and carver). Used in conjunction with paddle you can either paddle, carve or push.
Wtf untill a phew weeks ago there were absolutely no decent video's of the Carver boards and trucks, except that 1 video with a lot of asian dudes ripping up a bank. Now I check again and I see tons of them that have been uploaded years ago... Anyway, awesome vid! Now I need a deck with a C7... I just hope they don't mind rain too much. Obviously I'm not gonna pump hard on wet roads but you can never really predict when it's gonna rain with any certainty over here in Holland...
@ConstantinScifoni Could have been a manufacture error man. i have da monstah and i jump, carve, slide, everything. pumping is fun, but these boards are meant to abuse. If it broke quickly, it's probably just a manufacturing error, or you were jumping up and down on your trucks.
Exactly my style of surf skating, give you a real good workout and hella lota fun at the same time. Carver C7 is awesome for cruising surf skating. Smoothstar is excellent for tighter turns. Surfskate is good for balance but does not feel anything like surfing to me and flops all ove rthe place. Curfboard is a gimmick, well engineered lateral thinking gimmick though. Most front trucks weigh more than standard trucks so they feel a little slow and need a lot of push / energy. Made my own which is faster, lighter, smoother, snappier, lower, has suspension and is more fun: th-cam.com/video/2N3I8LO6qmc/w-d-xo.html You can make one as well, very easy but you will need to hack your deck a little with 2 x M8 holes. Make your own owns the others, I have ridden them all and will ride the suspension design streetsurfer anyday over the others.

There are no comparisons. Carver nailed it.
What about swelltech surfskates
I remember watching this video. So stoked when I installed my Carver Trucks then skated almost the whole day.
I just bought this board from edge skateboards in Dana point (great shop, a lot of variety, and friendly staff). Everything he said is right on, if you want to get better faster, surfskate crosstraining is the only way
I've been riding a Carver for a while. They are the most versatile skateboards. You can carve flatground and bomb hills. I ride alongside my buddy with his longboard down long hills and stay right with him. The funnest thing for me about them is the huge powerslides you can get with such control
I bought longer 34 Carver but later watched this. I exchanged it for Da Monsta. VERY happy. Sparked my interest in skateboarding again.
hey man, tell me how tall are you? i want to get one carver but i'm not sure if this one would be too small or snappy for me. and here in brazil no exchanges so i can´t mess up...
Dont mind, i ordered one. ;). I'm living in a country without coasts, but i can practice with this tool, thanks to your explanation!
The trucks allow for an amazing pump and carve. It also has a lot more surfing feel just like the freebord has snowboard feel.
Go to a store (where they sell Carver skateboards) and try a demo, it feels a little weird at first if you are a skateboard but it is easy to figure it out. You should make a 20 minutes video of this in action; it would be frickin' awesome!
I got the swallow c7. cant wait till it comes in..Its been flat all winter
I ruptured my ear drum so I'm out of water for 3 months at least. the stoke from riding that thing is unbelievable. It is like surfing.

Word!!! That's what I did! great advice! Turns the board into a dream for pumping tight snaps
If any of you lived in the Florida Panhandle, come and see us at Maui Nix Surf Shop. We are one the only shop that carries Carver boards and we will let you try out our demo board in the parking lot.
In Daytona? How is that on the Pan handle?
Daytona is where our main store is located, but we have other locations and that includes the store in Destin.
just got da monsta and I gotta say its amazing
looks like something good and functional...will post on the face bookpage!
Nice, i love cruisin and carvin all over the place. Id def get my hands on this.
Good job on the video - agreed re: training for surfing - a carving style skate is a must have! I prefer a Sector 9 bamboo "shoots" or "sentinel" with SideWinder trucks... low to the ground, deeper carving. All good though! props on the tight carves!
Good for snowboard off season training as well......

@ChrisLaxfingerboard Ok thanks, def getting one soon
1:51 nice sound effects dudeee
where are these available? looks sick
Just got one...it's sickkkkkk
Looks like a smooth star, Look up: Smooth Star Skateboards
Sono of a, , you've just made me want Both of Them. Awesome
Your carving at "The Bu" proves your concept. Where do I sign up?
Can I put these truckers on like a regular shortboard
Cant wait to ride one of them! Is it hard to do slides with the c7 trucks system?
can I also cruise with this board? or are the trucks to lose for that?
i want one now.
@Pagra101 do you have any idea how wide those trucks are in the vid? 6.5" or 5.0"?
nice video. tx
sector 9 bamboo 'bob marley series or da monsta carver? which one is besst?
Me too, i bought one already... Nice salesman ham?
@Morg810 yes you could, not on big hills but you could
where can i get that at i totally need one!
Already thinking in getting one, but is very expensive ($200)
which wheels better to slide on the turns??? mag or radial??
what is the name of the guy who's talking?
Do you get wheel bite on it at all??
What do you think about the cx.4? Between c7 and cx.4, ive been hearing that the c7 is more like a longboard kinda feel, and the cx.4 is like a shortboard. Jonathn Lyu i want to know this as well
@proctorsurfboards what effect would it have putting the c7 trucks on a big longboard like a 46 inch? will i still be able to get the snap like carves?
whats the difference between a c7 and a cx?
02:21 i like it!
This dude rips!
Mine gets mega speed wobbles on the slightest decline. Any suggestions? I want to adhere to the "don;t over tighten" bit.
How tall are you, weight? I have the USA 32.5 Resin, but I'd love to see the diffence between it and Da Monsta. I am 5'8 185lbs, and mostly skate street, but love the surf crossover training.
Where do you order one?
yes
dude absolutley i just got one about 2 3 weeks ago. get one.
what kind of bearing does it come with? Is it a ceramic?
how wide is your truck? 6.5" or 5"?
whichh wheels are those ?
skooling!!
With which truck should i buy da monsta, c7 or cx??
what's your setup?
Hey, he is talking about the C7, do we have the same result with the CX?
Thnks
Michaël Vandycke no the cx doesn't have the spring mechanism. Is easier to cruise but you can't carve as deep.
I need one!!!
anyone helps with pumping!? I am doing it but the skate doesnt move what is the problem? can you give me a guide as of how exactly should i move my legs in this exercise?

pump just like you would in the water
because of this video i bought carver :D
Hey bro, can you repeat that? 1:53
where can i buy this?
Hi! Im looking for a Carver surf skate for my 6yo kid!
What model do you recommend?
XOXO
Look at original boards they use spring loaded trucks too
the trucks aren't just spring loaded check them out they carve better than original
just get the trucks! You can virtually use any skate deck with the right set of risers!
How old are you?
Im getting one...
better than sidewinder II's?
I gave both and sidewinder need risers if your deck is low. I enjoy both though I'm usually going for the Karver more. Grew up on sector nine and think the double kings are great !!
i had the surfwinder series now i have a carver it blows the sidewinders out of the water
im toatally getting this
the.best.thing.ever.
whats better, carver or smoothstar? I would like to maybe get a surf-skateboard and I'm wondering which one offers a better surf-feel?
carver
smoothstar was my choice between the two. I tried both extensively, and went with the smoothstar. essentially they are very similar, i just found the smoothstar was smoother in the release of the carve, and had a better flow. However, I am absolutely positive, that with proper adjustments of either setup, will be an awesome board. I like the fact with the star, you can put whatever truck you want on it.
smoothstar but there so much
Has anyone tried land paddling with a carver? Or should I just stick to a longboard?
Works awesome. I made a paddle with a fibreglass rake handle and a 4" long x 2" dia piece of soft sikaflex 2111 poly attached to the end to give some spring. Use it with my own design wave skate / surf skate (IMHO works better than SS thruster and carver). Used in conjunction with paddle you can either paddle, carve or push.

it's ok!
These look sickkkk yewww
closest thing next to being in the water
Cool
lol mine got completely ran over by a truck and it lived to tell the tail.

Hit me up when you get an answer bro.

I left my wallet in El Segundo...
I bet Ricky's wallet is still on that little bank.
Exactly my style of surf skating, give you a real good workout and hella lota fun at the same time.

Because you don't need to push yourself with your foot.. You can just carve.
WOW ! It's just like surfing ;) :P :D lol
Fuuuuun
Da monsta is sick! Check our vid out, " carver skateboards virginia beach hd" yew, thanks!
Ricky where are you? You need to get A hold of me @mpggarry IG @unaolasurfcamp. yewww
looks 6.5
I like it. Look Me
Dude. All of skateboarding is "surfing on land". Why is this a new thing?
Не умеет кататься на такой подвеске. Новичок видно
This is super funny, but it's not even similar to surf
