Ouch, kick my Raiders while we're down. Didn't see that one coming. Lol. Slowpitch player here who's never been coached. Love your videos. Always picking up knowledge and skills to improve my game. Keep up the great videos.
No 7 year should be "shortstop"...they need to be learning all the positions. Even if they are the best athlete at this age, they will one day need to know how to play everything else. Infield size gloves for 7-8 year olds ideally are 10.5-11.5 inches, depending on your kids size, hand size, and comfort. Also depends on how experienced/advanced they are...my kid fields the ball at an elite level, so 10.5 is great for him because long-term it's teaching him to use a small part of the glove to have quick exchange and great hands(10.5" glove), even though he's tall. If your kid has trouble consistently tracking/catching/fielding the ball cleanly, at this age 11-12" will have a bigger "web" for them to corral the ball and gain confidence. Also much better when they play OF(which they should play some and learn, too), bigger "web" will build confidence as they are learning.
@TheLearningCatalystCoach he has a 10 inch and does not like the 11. He is a big 7 year old very athletic. How should I work him in every position, when he isn't the only one out there? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
@@tylerb4235 Make him take groundballs from different angles, work on forehand and backhand, and work on scooping and stretching if you think he will eventually go to the corners. Take balls from different angles to ensure that he can play around with confidence. Also work on flyballs and start teaching to open the hips instead of just backtracking.
@@tylerb4235 sorry, maybe I'm misunderstanding, but...at age 7, aren't the coaches shuffling all the kids into different positions throughout the games? Or every few innings?
@TheLearningCatalystCoach unfortunately no. I would say they have about 4 very good athletes and the rest need some work. They do rotate 1st base and 3rd base but that's about it.
Kids definitely need to learn to be self-accountable. Do you feel like this concept works for the 10/12U kids? I feel like I have enough trouble just getting them to pay attention.
