SCP-682 is a KETER class anomaly also known as Hard to Destroy Reptile.
SCP-682 is a large, vaguely reptile-like creature of unknown origin. It appears to be extremely intelligent, and has been observed to have extremely high strength, speed, and reflexes, though exact levels vary with its form.

Honestly, why try to kill it, you can just make it peaceful.
Make it room with SCP-053, the little girl. Its known to become as tame as a little puppy around her and just getting angry when separated. Since SCP-053 has to be isolated as well, there is no reason to separate them at all, and if you have to remove SCP-053 for any reason for a time, send in SCP-999 to keep it company until the Girl is returned to her cell.
Both of them are also immortal, so this is a solution that can work forever, and maybe just having a friend makes SCP-682 overal less aggressive over time. I mean, its always alone, and the only interactions with others is when people try to kill it. I would be pissed too if that was my life.
Just let it have a friend. Worst case Scenario, it gets loose and has to be contained again, which seems to be a not so rare thing anyway. Best Case Scenario, you most dangerous Killer SCP is now a good boy and a little girl is happy because she has a Pet.
Problem is, it seems there is more to their relationship than meets the eye.

Outside the 2 comments here they tried to make peace with 682, they tried to have children make friends with them. The first child straight up got eaten, the second was given a lot of drugs to be more relaxed because they figured the first was just to scared and it annoyed 682…you can imagine why they stopped after 14 children
Well, the researchers surmised that 682 may have just instinctively known not to attack 053. The same way it somehow knew not to break eye contact with 173. Or how it figured out 2599’s limitations of only being able to complete her tasks halfway. It’s not really interested in being friends with 053, it just instinctively knows that remaining docile around her is the only way for her death curse not to activate. The fact that 682 wants to *_avoid_* dealing with 053’s death curse, may imply that whatever entity is behind the curse might actually be able to kill 682.
Wow, 682 is literally a 3 year old’s “ultimate creature” that can beat anything. Just because the kid says it adapts to it. It may imply it’s able to be destroyed, but I think we’re all running out of ideas.

The reason the lizard is immortal and indesctructible is because it has meta-narrative properties, meaning that there are beings high above the SCP Universe that keep it alive by modifying its capacities and forcing it to adapt. Those beings are, as lame or intriguing as it may sound, the SCP wiki editors
This may seem like a 4th wall-breaking joke, but its actually quite true and it makes perfect sense. The lizard survives everything because the wiki editors make it so, and thus, the only way the lizard can truly die is if any editor of the wiki is either stopped from keeping him alive, OR, is forced to canonically kill him permanently. Its even suggested that one of the reasons the lizard hates humanity is because he knows that he is bound to their whims, and thus, they are both trying to destroy him AND keeping him alive.
That makes a lotta sense he is a beast who just traveled dimensions and just said no
This is why the better solution is not to kill him but make him docile if possible which is again up the editor

@@zoxen45 not just plot armor though. 682 has meta-plot armor. Imagine if you will one random editor decides to just say that 682 is now either permanently dead or docile. Unless they find a way to do it that everyone thinks is actually compelling enough to overcome the inertia of the idea, it will just be reverted back to how it was. 682 has the plot armor of not just one author, but a whole community of them.

Within one of the proposals an interesting question was really played, "the juice of anti-adaptation"
The answer you came up with was that scp-682 would adapt to the juice and not get it to take effect, but in that case it would adapt to not adapt which would create a contradiction which would cause an anomalous effect, the theory could work

I love the cross-test between 682 and 3008. It's funny how they so calmly brought 682 out in boxes and pieces, as well as how difficult it was for 682 to put itself back together.
See, here's where the foundation went wrong with the nail.
Don't use it to terminate, use it to contain.
SCP-682 will not be able to move to even hurt itself and its adaptive abilities only seem to activate when something is intended to do it any harm and will only adapt to the source that harms it.
I think we could be onto the lowest risk containment for 682 here, seeing as how it cannot be terminated by anything we know of anyways.

I've been mulling over an idea involving SCP-181. If the foundation could create weapon that had a 50-50 chance of killing the user, or the target, SCP-181's luck manipulating properties could force it to kill SCP-682 to spare SCP-181. The weapon itself wouldn't even nessicarily have to be effective against SCP-682, since the SCP-181's manipulation of probablity would require 682 to perish for the scales to be balanced, so to speak. The weapon could self terminate after a single use to prevent SCP-181 from using it to breach containment.

I wonder if they've tried dropping it on the Broken God's heart yet. Actually, that might be a terrible idea. Either they heart would keep absorbing iron from the thing's blood (assuming it even has iron in its blood) and grow indefinitely or else 682 would gain something weird from the broken heart and become yet more dangerous.
Seal it within a pocket dimension or some other spacial isolated zone. If he is alone, no one can send him back, and his adaptability wouldn't trigger as he would be in no direct danger.
To be honest 682 dying is just something this world is not ready for.

I like how scp-682 is like a problem child left to a caretaker (scp foundation) and the caretaker is so depressed by him that he wants to send it to someone else's place but the child always comes back.

How about instead of destroying it, we just send it forwards in time to a point where Humanity is most likely extinct or at least no longer on Earth
Welp, there is a story about this: "An inevitable end of all but me", where only the lizard and Dr.Bright were left from old era. After millions of years Earth became a lifeless, cold rock, and 628 got bored and regretful. It started to draw a map of stars on Earth's surface, eventually covering it all ( the old stars were already dead, and the sky was filled with new ). Now new humanity treats 628 like some unknown universal god, and only Dr. Bright knows it's still here.
I still say the crosstest with 835 is why the O5 refuse to try SCP-169 or SCP-3000 on 682
I was thinking, if SCP-682 is not dying when you try to kill it, Wouldnt that mean that if you try to Heal it and fully regenarate, using some sort of healing item, it would die due to healing or the healing item would heal its body to the point it would be possible to kill it

I have some ideas to defeat 682. SCP 158, the soul extractor, could make the situation better. First idea: extract the soul, them wait. Eventually it would probably regrow it's soul be it's worth a shot. Second idea: take out 682's souls and change its personality to be more docile. Hopefully the changes stick. Third idea: take out it's soul and replace it with a different soul (preferably one of not too much importance). Then monitor it over the course of a few days. Hopefully the soul doesn't revert back to one like 682 but know the hard to destroy reptile, but something tells me it won't be this easy
Because there's more to that story. The story is 682 is really the stead one of the 4 horsemen. Guess which one. Yup death. And the little girl is death. Think about it she causes everyone around her to kill each other off and if u touch her you die. And if you put them two together eventually they will realize who she is as she gets older and gains her memory of being a 4 horsemen. There's already a part one of this story line on another scp TH-cam series where they had just escaped and asap 682 evolved into a itself with white feathers and wings and went to rescue his little girl and they broke out of containment together. Waiting for part 2 still.

Somehow you managed to miss out on the key detail as to why the Gate Guardian didn't solve the problem of 682. After the fight, the Gate Guardian used its compulsion powers to order Foundation agents thusly: "REMOVE."

Honestly, there might be something that can kill it. An SCP that “un-SCPs” other anomalies. Basically just turning it into a normal version of itself. 096? Becomes a guy with anxiety and facial dysmorphia. 173? Just some creepy ass statue. And what happens to SCP 682? You get a pet lizard that you can literally step on to kill. The effects can last as long as this new SCP isn’t destroyed, or it can last forever. Doesn’t matter since as soon as 682 is killed in its gecko form, it’s dead forever. Atomize it and there’s no chance of return.

Video idea: what life was like before the scp foundation was a thing, what was it like?
With so many scp’s roaming the earth there had to have been some problems
I have a theory that some of the SCP's were more benign or just kept to themselves before groups like the Foundation or GOC started imprisoning or destroying them.
There's also a whole lot of examples of humans in the past using Magic, Thaumaturgy, and other things, sometimes entire nations doing so. I believe that by removing and actively covering up the anamolous that they've actually made it MORE dangerous due to then also suppressing the knowledge mankind needs to defeat them.
Think about it, would you rather live in a world where you know about it's horrors and can plan accordingly or use magic and stuff of that nature to defend yourself or live in a world where you're completely ignorant of such things and are defenseless against them.
So I personally think it's a combination of different GOI's antagonizing anamolous items and creatures combined with enforced ignorance that's made these things so much more dangerous in present times then they were in the past when these things were well known and humanity as a whole had access to anamolous weapons and tactics of their own.

682 is great because it's like the sum of all human fears about the world around them. An unkillable, crocodilian like monster. I think we are preprogrammed on an almost genetic level to fear such creatures, as they hunted our ancestors in the rivers of Africa. Like deep memory stuff.

right so I actually had an idea of a termination attempt for 682 and it involves the "touch it and die" objects. Now before you just throw it off that it'll adapt I had an idea of instead of using one you use multiple if not all in hopes that there so many different things attack the very cells of 682 that while the body tries to adapt to say 734's ability it will be unable to adapt to 409 meaning 409 can cause more damage only for 682 to start adapting to that only just for another anomaly to go uneffected and so on and so on

I had a thought. The was to get rid of scp 682 may possibly only be scp 000 except no one is supposed to know of it, and so the reveal of scp 000 to erase this lizard from relatity would ultimately be fatal as well. That's because something that is nothing cant be nothing when someone has seen it or mentioned it. That's why it can't be used to dispatch of any nasty scps.
(I'm talking about the couple of hectares of land that consist of absolutely nothing, and anything that enters ceases to exist)

A good way to contain him would be to find a scp that can cut pieces of something without killing it. Like Sticky fingers ability in Jojo, then you can put all of thoses harmless pieces in differents boxes. The fact that it doesn't harm him shouldn't activate his plot armor and simply make a better mesure of containement.
And then every piece would grow into an individual SCP-682, because SCP-682 logic.

The mains circumvention my method uses is that it doesn't harm 682 to begin with, also the pieces are still connected to each other.
Let's not forget that this reptile is constantly put into an acid bath and he didn't grew a full imunity to it.

i watched it and had an idea how to kill it. just take the killing fluid of the machine, put it in a tank so it stads about a centimer high and use a hydraulic press to get every part of 682s body eventually covered
I love how the ikea staff just went "nope not happening, absolutely not happening, we hate you so much we will show you the exit and we will even bring you to the exit"
The best part about 682, and why its my favourite, is how purely simple it is.

Can we just leave scp 682 alone, not in universe, but on these videos it’s so bland, and when compared to other tests uncreative (no fault to the authors of course)
That first one gave me chills
If scp 682 has no night vision, then turning the lights off in the containment chamber with the statue would allow it to continue its work, but even with night vision, if no light can reach its eyes or reflect off the statue, it could likely yield the same effect. Unless 682 adapts bioluminescent bone matter, and then it would crack like a glowstick

I think theres something you can do. you can use scp-999 to calm it down use its adaptability and materials its made of to make armor and weapons then use every scp to steal their abilities for a long time or forever then make something that can decrease the time of adaptability like ikea then separate its body parts inside different dimensions
Idea: SCP 682 vs all other Scp and the Foundation.
I have two ideas 1. They could split 682 into multiple parts and contain them separately so they pose much less of a threat 2. They could use the downgrade gun but make someone who wants to see everyone die use it to turn the monster into a less powerful one that might be killable
I like to imagine that during When Day Breaks 682 would be fine and probably enjoy it.

According to the SCP-6001 file, it turns out the only thing capable of killing SCP-682 is another SCP-682 (or at least the only thing capable of doing so without also killing everything else in existence along with it).
