what a GREAT! study i really appreciate the illitrations you give. BUT!one question ,if we cant keep the commandments why does God say in john 14:15 if you love me keep my commandments? repeatively He says it in Revelations also........
Good question. 1. It should always be our goal to keep the commandments. Even in the process of falling short, that teaches us to rely on Him and to receive His grace. 2. Jesus is telling us that we cannot say we love Him and then refuse to listen to what He says. There is an obedience componence. So He said, "follow me." 3. Ezekiel 36:26-27 And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules. The Holy Spirit can enable us to obey His commands. After salvation, we are indwelt by the Holy Spirit. It is by His strength that we can obey. Hope that helps a bit.
