    Ive been glueing it on for 15 years. Never had a problem with any cracking. I always spray both surfaces and allow time for the glue to set some. How can it crack if it will tear the rock apart if you have to remove it for any reason? I bet those guys that had it crack only sprayed one surface?

    Thanks for the video and tips! Hey I want to convert a window to trimless but don't want to add additional drywall to the window jambs as the blinds would no longer fit. The existing window is with a wood jamb. Should I cut the wood jamb out and replace with drywall? Or how would that work? Thanks!

      Just know if you mud up wood the mud will crack and flake off because of the wood expanding and contracting.

      Right, I was thinking if I removed the wood jambs up the windows, then replace it with drywall, doing a drywall return to the wall. Then I could put a tear way L-trim on the Window side and leave a 1/8th inch space, mud up to the L-trim, then tear away. I wasn't sure how the wood jambs work, if I could remove them without removing the window. We had new windows installed about 2 years ago and they were able to keep the existing wood jambs (and therefore the inside mouldings) intact. I don't know much about windows, but am I safe to assume the new windows just butted up to the jambs instead of going inside them?

    Few years back I hung a house that the builder made from a torn down barn. They constructed so as that all the 10" beams we exposed. This I had to tear away bead every beam. I bet I put 300 sticks of tear away in one house. Not counting all the windows & doors I used it on
    Tear away makes life easy when framers try to make it harder.

    Just used this on a basement where they only wanted one section boarded up with new drywall, but it connected to two walls with shitty old vinyl wrapped drywall, like they'd use in a trailer so I had no other way to tape a corner into it, and a drop ceiling that I didn't want to take down. Worked fantastic.

    Good idea thanks Doc, garages are a normal thing like that for finishing a window like your enthusiasm

      Hey Doc would the plastic crack around the window though

    • @THEDRYWALLDOCTOR1
      @THEDRYWALLDOCTOR1  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Eventually yes but you need to caulk that crack and it will be just fine

    Great video as always Ray, for those of us who are not familiar with the tear away bead can you please do a follow up video showing it completed or tearing away the bead? I need to do something around my basement windows and think this is a good fit but need to learn a little more.

    What size staples do you use? Also info on the stapler?

    • @THEDRYWALLDOCTOR1
      @THEDRYWALLDOCTOR1  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's just an arrow stapler and a 3/8 inch staple is more than enough

    Have you seen the tapepro mud box. I think it's faster than the bazooka if you include wash time.

    What are u stapling to? I have some coming up but it’s insulated block walls and window frames. I can’t staple to styrofoam really

  • @stevenpiehl6199
    @stevenpiehl6199 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Agree 100% with you stables are the way to go also I do not like breathing the glue fumes I got lazy and and purchased an electric stable gun it’s great those shims are always a pain and slow you up

      That's why I only buy flangeless tearaway. It does the same exact thing and there's no real need for the flange.

  • @KevinsDisobedience

    Do you use splayed staples as they suggest? We glue and staple our bead. We use all Trim Tex Bead. No call backs!

    • @kiwibird8441
      @kiwibird8441 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeh I'm pretty sure Trim Tex instructions say to spray and staple. No glue more staples.

  • @chriscreed3283

    That's why we have to use the flangeless tear away bead. Boarding ethier to tight or shims in way behind boarding every job

  • @kiwibird8441
    @kiwibird8441 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think tape tech recommend spray and staple, you just need need less stapling if you glue it. As per manufacturer specs.

    I was just googling, but marvin has a dry wall return as one of their options. not exactly too sure what it is, but sure looks like you could use it here.

      @@THEDRYWALLDOCTOR1 once I am on my desktop I'll link marvin's broucher . Shows drywall return as an option for you to buy. Not sure if this helps .I was trying to figure out what it is.

    Did you hang this? This garage is similar to mine I'm DIYing. I wish I'd put the ~15 inch section in the middle like this rather than the bottom like I did mine.

      Personally I prefer to keep my factory seams rather than make a bastard joint. I'd rather have a seam a foot from the floor than a giant butt joint all the way around room.
